Things like Sparrowhawks or skyhawks cannot go into space...

Forgot to toss in they could deploy vultures as well.

Still, how can you turn a spread out group of surprised bases into a fighting force of hundreds to face a similar force that also features transports wielding wraits, aa guns, and thousands of infantry in a matter of a few hours when they even then started to fall one by one? You seem to forget how deadly a transport can be. The UNSC macs and fleet were unable to help, and the planetary forces were spread out, surprised, out numbered, and faced with more advanced technology. Not to mention that those covenant had probebly already trained for it.

I expected 'if TFoR was never written their never would be a Halo Reach game'...

I pointed out earlier that the Skyhawks are equipped with 4 50mm cannons...

phantoms and spirits have no protection from above.

If you can read this, that means I'm not a Shaolin monk...

Phantom gunboats have shields. Spirits are merely transport. And perhaps more formidable than their UNSC counterpart: the Pelican.

1. all attacks from orbital defenses would be consentrated on the covenent fleet.
2. unless the skyhawks are equipped with sheilds then they would be easy prey. also they would have to break trough heavily aggressive escorts. If they could even be used in a real orginized attack.
prove that one of these could not happen(continuisily and effectivily) and I will accept it.
Besides, you have not provided a reasonable counter to ANY of my points.

I think that's unlikely, a Phantom might possibly be more formidable than a Pelican with the right armaments, but I don't think that's possible for a Spirit, it's always only had the small mounted gun on the cockpit and that's it.

Needless to say though, there is no possible way that whatever vehicles were deployed from the Covenant fleet could take the generators in a mere two hours (I think it was even less than that). UNSC defenses would be overwhelmed eventually perhaps, but it would take at the very least several days for the Covenant ground forces to take out the generators on their own.

The UNSC were surprised and attacked by a pinpoint force that was highly numerous. It was more like a few hours >2 <6. standard military docterine. This is a offensive commander's dream.

Edit 1:
You do not know how fast a spirit can travel regardless. A standard airplane can go from pole to equator in a few hours. Transports are likely faster and going to a more northern location.

Actually, a defender of the book version gave the speed of the spirit in atmosphere. 7 hours to travel from pole to equator.

False.

Even if I took the books out of the equation, it was bland and boring compared to the other Halos.

Did he ever conform that?

No other numbers have been given thus far.

Besides, if he confirms it he only damns the book more :D.

I think he made it up, but he isn't going to come back and conform it anyway. How have we come this far off track anyway?

  • 06.02.2011 3:03 PM PDT

I like Call of Duty and Gears of War, AND Halo. Why must everyone else like only one or the other?

Reach had the worst Campaign, weather it messes up the book's canon or not.

Indeed. Even if you remove the destroying previously established canon part, it still has the worst campaign out of all the Halos. Story-wise, IMO, it goes like this: Halo 2 = ODST > Halo 3 > Halo: Combat Evolved > Halo Wars >>>>>>>>> Reach.
