Imagine a triangle. It's perfect, but a little plain. You take a chisel, and carve a small decorative symbol into it to make it a little more interesting. People like it, but it could use a little more.
So you then take a sledgehammer..

The idea of a Combat Evolved remake is kinda cool. But Halo 2 excites me more. Think about all of the awesome things you could revisit in Halo 2 like:
1. The first mission is actually really good. CE started with a spaceship interior being boarded sequence that had you going through tunnels with your torch on. Halo 2 had you fighting in a much more interesting environment. You fought inside the MAC cannon and even outside as it's defending Earth.
2. Giving the Covenant back their bomb.
3. New Mombassa. From the moment SGT Johnson says "Dear humanity, we regret being alien bastards" to the point where you're fighting along side him on the rooftops you know this mission is great. Going through the long tunnels in a hog, the city streets, big open skirmishes with Elite drop pods landing, hotel interiors, jackal snipers. New Mombassa is freakin epic.
4. Rolling across that bridge and blowing up any inhuman son of a -blam!- stupid enough to get between the Chief and the Prophet of regret. The Bridge scene! Decimating an entire Covenant vehicle swarm then taking on the scarab in the city streets.
5. Delta Halo. This mission alone sums up Halo. Strapping into an ODST drop pod and hitting the ground on a Halo ring surrounded by ODSTs, cruising around on the hog, more bridge crossing. Indoor, outdoor vehicle combat. The massive ocean crossing Forerunner gondolas. Getting to beat a prohpet to death with your bare hands. Delta Halo, nuff said.
6. The Library. I mean, the enjoyable Library. Retrieving the index in amidst a 3 way war between the Covenant, Flood and humanity while the scenery BURNS is better than CE which has you following Guilty Spark through the most annoying mission in Halo history. Crossing that massive devide on the floating control panel. The scale of this battle, indoor and out is epic and satisfying and full of unforgettable moments.
7. High Charity, the Master Chief just walks in to the Covenant capital, alone ... and starts kicking ass! While the civil war between Elites and Brutes breaks out you trudge through the whole war to the sounds of Breaking Benjamin. Truly Halo at it's best.
8. The final mission. You, as the Arbiter invading Halo's control room. Teaming up with Hunters, teaming up with Hunters ... and SGT Johnson ... SGT Johnson who's driving a Scarab!!! It's truly magic, massive vehicular engagements, stealth, CQC.
Sure, CE had it's moments. Mission 2 was good, exploring Halo in a hog and the snow mission was good. But there's a lot of backtracking, repetitive copy and paste level design and annoying, ANNOYING flood.
Halo 2 had a campaign to remember, a truly epic conflict spanning earth, Halo and the Covenant capital city. There's no place in which you don't kick ass.
I'd buy a Halo 2 remake over a CE remake ANY day of the week.
Agreed, or at least for the campaign.
