Which is your favourite and why?
Mine is the Marathon Trilogy because of the gameplay, story line and the strong personality of Durandal and Tycho (not so much leela) and the conflict between them.

I am still playing through Marathon Infinity, but I bought Oni a few days ago, so I have started playing that.

Marathon!

When we began to play Halo, we took an oath!
According to our station! All without exception!
On the blood of our fathers, on the blood of our sons, we swore to uphold the Seventh Column!
Even to our dying breath!
Those who would break this oath are heretics! Worthy of neither pity nor mercy!
We shall grind them into dust! Wipe them as excrement from our boots!
And continue our march to glorious salvation!

I haven't played any of them.

What do people recommend, can you show me gampleay videos?

My most memorable was Halo 3. Although, I do have some good memories of playing Halo 2 LAN with some buddies of mine. Between all of them I've played, I don't think I could pick a favorite. :)

When I grow up, I want to be just like goofenhour.

Just thought I would mention, Bungie didn't make Abuse, they just ported it to the Mac.

But, by far, my favorite would be Marathon Trilogy. I haven't played all the way through Operation: Desert Storm, and haven't play Minotaur (unfortuantely) because I don't have two "classic" Macs so I can't set up an AppleTalk network, so I can't fairly judge those.

Gameplay video's won't help that much. the best part about Bungie games come from the story, gameplay comes second, especially in Marathon.

Ah, but could Leela really be trying to manipulate the SO just as much as Durandal and Tycho, albeit in a different way? Personally I don't think it is wise to trust Leela and write her off as loyal just because she seems less hostile than Durandal and Tycho. How would Leela have treated the SO (knowing him to be the 10th cyborg) once the immediate threat of the Pfhor was ended?

Well I thin that Leela actually manipulates the SO more so that Tycho and Durandal, but she seems cold and calculating, and isn't aware of emotion. But while Durandal and Tycho use the SO for their own personal goals, I felt that they were less demanding of Leela, but its also because Durandal's and Tycho's rampancy, sarcasm and arrogance makes them more human than Leela and gives them more personality.

And actually I think that Durandal and Tycho would have both tried to keep the SO around with them for their own bidding, while Leela would have either kept the SO on Tau Ceti with the other 9 Mjolnir cyborgs, or used him in other UESC operations.

Myth all the way baby!

You know, some people still play those games on a regular basis.

I want to try Marathon sooo badly, but I couldn't get the whole AlephOne thing to work, and I don't understand how all the downloads I need to run it on seven fit together.

A step-by-step instruction manual of some sort for doing this would be cool.

Don't panic. It is a lot simpler than it looks.

1.) Go to http://marathon.sourceforge.net/ and download each of the game files (M1A1.zip, Marathon2.zip, and MarathonInfinity.zip) and the Aleph One Engine that matches your operating system.

2.) Copy the M1A1, Marathon 2, and Marathon Infinity folders to your desktop.

3.) Copy the AlephOne.exe into each folder.

4.) Join For Carnage Apply Within so you have someone to play multiplater with.

I haven't played any of Bungie's titles, other than Halo.

I probably need to experience the Marathon trilogy, just to get a sense of Bungie before their Xbox endeavour.

  • 06.01.2011 3:27 PM PDT

I've been told that Marathon on AlephOne has a community of around 200 people, although FOR CARNAGE APPLY WITHIN has over 300 members, so I'm not really sure. There is notmaly 1 or 2 people on at least at any time though.
I also used to play Marathon Durandla on XBLA but saddly it seems no one ever plays it.
