In the golden period of this game's online multiplayer experience, I had no home internet connection. I experienced matchmaking only briefly at friends houses, read about it in OXM, and wanted, lusted after a way to join the community. I played Campaign solo, splitscreen co-op with friends over, and honed my alien-murdering skills to a vicious point. But it's just not the same as playing real, anonymous strangers.
I missed the party. Recently I got an HTC Thunderbolt, a phone capable of creating a WiFi hotspot out of even my half-assed 3G connection, which my 360 Slim is able to connect to. I played Reach, for a while. Great game, cool armor to unlock, good fun, ect. But it wasn't until tonight that I decided to let my crappy connection find a Halo 3 game. It wasn't until tonight that I finally confirmed without all doubt that I'd missed out on possibly the greatest online multiplayer experience ever to grace the console. I played Halo 3 online and loved it. And I'm sad that I never got to join the thrall of server-warriors in the great battles of our online generation.
I missed out. And even if I'm taking this way too seriously, It's bittersweet; I can appreciate what I missed. I'll be playing through to try and earn a 50 this summer. IDK if I'll actually get there or not, through driving, getting a job, ect, but I'm sure as hell going to play the hell out of whoever's left online.
Here's to what may be the best 360 game ever made *raises glass*!
Was that the king's speech?
