Jun was pretty Zen about stuff, "I kill the enemy, but do not hate him."

That's more morality than religion though, still a good point.

I think some of them probably did have religion, it definitely won't be gone.

I would think religion would be a problem during the early part of their training. After all, a child who was in a religious family would be a hard habit to break. I'm guessing, but I would imagine Fhajad is from a Muslim family, breaking the 3x a day prayer may have been hard at first.

Then again, they being so young they could have been almost relieved to break the habit. Surely they knew about religion though.

Hell, Vice Admiral Whitcomb was a pretty big Christian if I remember right, wouldn't be surprising if a Spartan had some faith.

Actually, the SPARTAN-II program did have organized religion:

1. I am the HALSEY your Doctor who took you away from your families, from the house of happiness. You shall have no other authority before Me.
2. Thou shalt not make any graven image of thy A.I. Cortana.
3. Thou shalt not swear falsely by the name of ONI.
4. Thou shalt remember weapons maintenance day, and keep it holy.
5. Thou shalt always honor myself and Mendez.
6. Thou shalt murder all Covenant.
7. Thou shalt not commit adultry, as thou hath no sex drive since augmentation anyway.
8. Thou shalt not steal from Kelly; she will surely catch thee.
9. Thou shalt not bear false witness againt anybody except Kurt; he's annoying and talks too much.
10. Thou shalt not covet Fred's knives; he'll kill thee with them.

Words of wisdom all around, but no one ever seems to listen. The words are all around but the words are only sound. But nobody seems to listen. Instead they'll say, "Well how could we of known?" I'll tell em, "It's really not so hard to tell. keep adding stones, and the water gets lost in the well."

Religion will most certainly be gone by that time.

I doubt that.

Marines and ODSTs still say OH MY GOD. So thats out the window.

I have also wondered this.

Oh yeah, guys, you have to pray 5 times a day when you are Islamic.

Actually it's not, I can't remember if Halo had any other religions represented, but both Johnson and Dutch are Christians, and I don't think that religion is ever going to disappear, one could argue that it's almost a part of Humanity. But religion is definitely still around in Halo.

I agree with you. Religion will certainly have not disappeared during the Covenant War. In fact, It will have most likely strengthened the religious beliefs of most of the Human population, at least IMO. A Covenant of hostile aliens intent on destroying humanity would probably make most people turn to God or Allah or Yahweh, or whoever.

I highly doubt it, the Spartan IIs were raised at the age of 6 by Catherine Halsey who's an atheist, it's possible that Spartan IIIs might have been religious due to how they started training 6 years after Spartans IIs but I'm probably none of a few small fraction might have been slightly religious...

as much as i hate to say it, they were probably kept away from god so that they could fight and kill and feel no spiritual guilt.

Um... There are lots of religious people in the military who don't feel lots and lots of guilt over it...

they dont kill thousands and thousands of creatures like spartans though.

"Where ere thou hast been, here or in yon world manifest? Canst thou tell what is, or what was, or what is to come? No thing shall last. Yet there are some things that will never change. History is written in blood, yet are battles really lost on the battlefield? Canst thou tell me where thou comest, and where thou goest, and what is, or what was, or what will be? For everything remains, AS IT NEVER WAS."

Not to mention Pagan beliefs that actually deify war and have certain halls in their "Heaven" designated for those slain at war.

The way I see it is this; as we are the Spartans (notably with Noble Six,) his/her religion is whatever we are.

In terms of guilt over killing someone, 1=1000.

I am the God Emprah of Mankind.

Deal with it.

Key word CREATURES not human, don't think anyone would have some guilt over that. It's like killing a bug.

Dude in halo evolutions they say Jesus and God 100 times.

  • 06.02.2011 1:20 PM PDT

not a chance, religion corrupts all. they are soldiers first and foremost, they are indoctrinated to that way of thinking. so would hope not, the less religion the better...!

  • 06.02.2011 1:41 PM PDT

Most religions only deal with the killing of humans though, they don't talk about the killing of other life. I'm not saying going around callously killing non-human life is good, but I don't think religious people would have a problem killing non-human lifeforms, especially during a time of war. War completely changes the face of killing, while it still is ending a life, it isn't quite the same as murder, I can't say whether it weighs on the conscience the same though since I am not a soldier and have never had to end another life.

"Ignorance is a plague."

Close, but the plague killed those infected with it, and the ignorant are still alive.
I wish ignorance was a plague.

I very strongly doubt it.
