Subject: Did the Covenant ever fear the UNSC?

Just think about it, sure the Covenant had the upper hand throughout the entire war but there were some times when they Covenant lost such as in Cole's campaign, or the lost of the Unyielding Hierophant, but did the Covenant ever fear them following these events?

They feared them but not for those reasons.

the prophets were getting scared because they were fighting for over a decade yet to them the UNSC was still going strong and they couldn't find earth. They didn't want it to last long becuase that would make "people" question. this is exactly why truth changed to the brutes, because the elites starting thinking and brutes just take orders; well most tribes do.

Most grunts did thats for sure. Elites were all high on their own arrogance. Hunters didn't give a care. Jackals maybe but they probably say that they were wimps but good trade partners. Brutes thought that they were delicious. And prophets didn't care due to their fleets having many ships and troops.

All of which is false. the COVENANT was not afraid of the UNSC what so ever, it was the prophets, and they were losing alot of ships to the UNSC also.

I think the covenant lost more ships in the war than the UNSC did.

I'm sure A few dudes hijacking a Supercarrier and plowing it in to a Covenant space station and destroying around 500 ships was a shocking concept to the Covenant.

Nope. As far as most of the covenant was concerned the UNSC was just a nuisance that needed to be erradicated. Any loses to the UNSC were probably chalked up to elite in charge being incompetent.

It apparently is a super carrier unless otherwise noted to be a typo.

It's not disease that strikes fear, it's just Ebola. Get my point? I see what you are saying, but because of the Spartans, the UNSC did strike a little fear in the heart's of the Covenant. But like I said, I get your point. As a whole, the UNSC didn't really make the Covenant wet themselves, only the Prophets where actually scared, and it wasn't because of military might or anything, but at the political upheaval they could create.

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.
/slow clap for respect

:)
The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

Fear? I doubt it.

Respect them? Yes.

Even though the Prophets considered them a blight on galatic purity and what nots, frontline troops were still hearing how hard and viciously human soldiers would fight on the ground, gaining them respect of most high ranking elites.

Fixed kinda. They feared Spartans (Or, Demons to the Covenant) Didn't really fear John that much more then the rest.

I disagree.

In Halo 3 when they are in Crows Nest. Truth hijacks the airwaves and says: "Even your demon won't live to creep". Then John says: "Does he usually mention ME".

The covenant were personally afraid of HIM.

I think so. They lost:

500 at Unyielding Hierophant
250+ at Reach
300+ at Psi Serpentis
18 at Sigma Octanus
7 at Pegasi Delta

= 1075

Not even included the amount of ships they lost at Earth. The UNSC probably lost around 200 ships at Reach and Earth combined.

This is absolutely true, aside from the last sentence.

The only faction of the Covenant actually afraid of the humans were Truth, Regret and Mercy. And that was because Mendicant Bias basically told them that the Covenant was a farce and that humans were the true inheritors of the Forerunner's legacy.

Also, if the Covenant truly did lose more ships than the humans, it was because of events like the explosion at the Unyielding Hierophant, Reach, and Earth. In nearly all naval engagements, the UNSC lost about 3 to 1.

Um... At that point Truth and crew thought Master Chief was the last spartan.

And... seeing as Master Chief knows they call Spartans "Demons" Thus, it's common sense and logic that Truth was referring to him, and not that dumb Marine dancing in the back of the room.

The Chief was the major foil to the Covenant at the time, and the only active Spartan in the events of Alpha Halo, Delta Halo, Earth's last stand, and the Ark.

It's conceivable that the events of Blue team on Onyx reached Truth's attention, but let's be serious here dude. He said "demon," which is singular, and we all knew he meant the Master Chief.

There's more space battles that you never posted. Such as at Onyx, Second battle of Harvest, etc.

No, UNSC did lost more than 200 ships >.>

Look at those battles such as Psi Serpentsis Cole lost 79 ships as well covenant's 300 ships were wiped out. Also, not mention that Reach they lost over 130 ships, also Earth, probably in hundreds were lost as well. There's many battles you yet checked in and it has 3:1 ratio applying to UNSC which it shows that UNSC suffered serious navy casualties while covenant suffered much worse.

Um, yes. Because they got reports stating Master Chief was the last DEMON.

Duh they would refer him to singular. There is no proof, whatsoever they considered him worse then any other.

Oh, another fun fact. The Spartan IIs, for the most part, ALL WORE THE SAME ARMOR. How the hell would they differentiate between two Spartans? The answer. They wouldn't. To them, all demons were the same.

Considering that he's the only Spartan to personally come up close to assassinate a high prophet deep in their territory alone not once, but twice...well..I'm sure they'd be considering him to be a far more worse direct threat than the others.

And as stated before he's the one to personally destroy a Halo and they've identified him specifically as the "Master Chief" at the start of Halo 2. So I'd say that's some significant recognition right there compared to the other Spartans.

Grey Team wore some custom armor (heavily modified Mark IV if I recall correctly), all other Spartan IIs got Mark V at least, and only Blue Team have the Mark VI. But that's beside the point. The literal interpretation of your point holds, but the implied point that the Covenant wouldn't be able to tell the Chief from any other Spartan is not sustained.

Mostly because of his armor, but mostly because he's the most ubiquitous antagonist the Covenant had to face. The only time the Covenant squared off with Spartans when John wasn't there was in miscellaneous encounters that had tertiary influence on the major events of the Human-Covenant War (i.e: events of Onyx, Blue Team + others on Reach before the Chief showed up to save the day).

Anyways, I wouldn't say the Covenant fear the Spartans--or at least, the Covenant that matter. John engendered the term "demon," but obviously it applies to all Spartans.
