You were totally and absolutely correct in every way, I don't know why we were arguing, you're so amazing I should never have doubted you.

Actually no. As I've said before.

Unfortunately, plot shields like the one G.I. Joe Forge had are the only force more powerful than 'Moramee's sheer badassery.

He may have been tackled to the ground and stabbed by Forge, but Ripa tackles goddamn UNSC Frigates and destroys them. He's probably the most powerful contemporary canon character besides Generic McAnimecharacter from those horrible Legends cartoons.

I'm talking about the Arbiter who was a married swordsman in Sangheili culture (lolwut), not the retarded mecha from the prototype armory on Algolis.

"We knew the world would not be the same.
A few people laughed, a few people cried, most people were silent.
I remembered the line from the Hindu scripture, the Bhagavad-Gita.
Vishnu is trying to persuade the Prince that he should do his duty and to impress him takes on his multi-armed form and says,
'Now, I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds...'
I suppose we all thought that one way or another."

Did it ever say they were married?

Do the rules we think of marriage even apply to Elite culture (Aliens after all).

Also, Ripa was arrogant. Forge didn't get 'plotshielded', he used that arrogance and killed Ripa with it.

Or what if they're already married when they become a swordsman? That whole aspect is rather vague, I'd really like a book dealing with the Elites as the main characters and getting much more of an insight into their day to day culture and the more mundane features of Sangheili life.

And yeah, Forge killed Ripa because the latter was extremely arrogant and completely underestimated Forge, and do the shields even really deflect blows from an un-augmented human?

He calls her his wife.

Yes, they do. Sangheili males will marry females but swordsmen and aristocrats do not marry, instead they choose any eligible female, even married ones. However, the arbiter from The Duel was married and he wielded a sword, which only swordsmen are permitted to do.

And yeah, Forge was plotshielded. In a believable fight between the two he'd be dead.

So you know for a fact an Elite marriage is EXACTLY the same as a human marriage?

Also, as Coma said, he may have married before becoming a swordsman, OR the position of Arbiter could have a wife.

It was a believable fight, Forge appealed to Ripa's arrogance, and gave him a chance to show off. While Ripa was busy BRAGGING instead of killing, Forge stabbed him in the neck(Near the skull too) and proceeded to stab Ripa with his own sword. You see, Ripa was boosting his own ego by showing off, instead of brutally and quickly killing Forge as he may have been able to do.

Read The Cole Protocol dimwit, it explains how Sangheili marriage customs work. Even Frankie said it made no sense, and he is one of the most knowledgeable people in regards to canon.

Besides, you really think a regular marine is capable of driving a knife through energy shielding that can block .50 caliber bullets?

They didn't have energy shields in the cutscenes, only in the gameplay.

Good point.

Ripa's armor did not show any signs of Energy Shields, instead it seemed like his armor was only resistant to projectiles.
Maybe it was a modification to increase his armor's active camouflage duration or something of that sort.

The honor guards didn't have shields either.

  • 05.31.2011 7:00 PM PDT

Just a question... when did their shields deflect a 50 cal bullet?

But yeah, Ripa's arrogance and ego stroking is what killed him, not a "plotshield" around Forge.

If he hadn't been bragging, stroking his ego, and showing off, he would have killed Forge when he was doubled over instead of talking about how humans were weak and pathetic and tossing the sergeant around.

Yeah, if Forge had been fighting a SPARTAN he would've been screwed. SPARTANS don't screw around and brag about how physically superior they are...they just kill ya!

Ripa was an embarrasment to the Sangheili's culture... He had no Honor and was more brute like then any other Elite.

He was also an arrogent fool who cost himself his own life due to his arrogence.

Or maybe it's because Halo Wars is non-canon. I'll accept that maybe the overall story is canon, but the more specific things like that are just mistakes or purposely non-canon changes.

Proof? Oh wait... there is no proof of Halo Wars being not canon.

However, there is proof of it BEING canon.

Just cause you don't like the fact that the big bad elite was an arrogant -blam!- and that caused him to be killed by a lil old marine, does not make it non-canon.

It's on the same canonical level as fanfiction. Endorsed by Bungie, but not of their creative design. The same goes for Halo Legends.

Actually, it's part of the canon. Aka, above fanfiction, which is in no way part of the canon besides references.

Hey, smart guy, look at this.

GP: Do Bungie consider the story of Halo Wars to be a part of their official canon?

Jason: Yes, Halo Wars is canon. Frank O'Connor is the Halo "canon overseer" and we have his official signoff!

GP: Did Bungie reject any of Ensembles ideas?

Jason: The Bungie guys were great partners during the development of Halo Wars, and we all take the Halo canon very seriously. Ensemble consulted Bungie throughout the development of Halo Wars, and those guys were instrumental in helping us make sure the game was a genuine Halo experience. From the game standpoint this is 100% an Ensemble creative project, however it's fair to say that Ensemble had great feedback from Bungie, but Bungie didn't provide creative oversight for the project.

I recommend you read this topic.

http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=33630397 Bungie worked closely with ensemble when they were making Halo Wars to ensure it stayed with canon.

The most cool, badass character in Halo.

So badass he makes Thel look tame.

He should have survived in Halo: Wars and become the main bad guy in Reach.

Going toe to toe with a 9 foot Elite with duel swords would have been a challenge.

Yeah he was like 9'1". His firefight caption would be: even Brutes don't like him. He was a BEAST.
