Prolouge

Hunter gazed down the sight of his sniper rifle. "Two tangos. Elites." He zoomed closer on the two figures.
That was his job.
"....Just minors. Should be easy to clean up." He slid down the edge of a cliff and sprinted quietly behind a rock. He drew his M6C, and peeked over, memorizing their positions. He pointed his sidearm over and fired 4 supressed rounds, each perfectly landing themselves in a nice comfortable head.
That was his skill.
He slid a new clip into the gun and checked his motion sensor. Nothing. It seemed suspicious to the young SPARTAN. He looked around. Usually, there were more than two Elite minors guarding an entrance. He shooked this thought out of his head. "You've got 30 minutes to kill that VIP before we leave you behind." Those were his pilot's only words before leaving him for his work.
That was his challenge.
He decided to just continue on. The young SPARTAN found his way to a Covenant sentry tower. He examined the enemies on board it. "Four Grunts....." The SPARTAN was confused. The Grunts milled about, chattering to each other. They were never very disciplined. Their only strength was if they were in large numbers, and the youth didn't consider four Grunts a large number. He aimed his M6C and fired four shots. All four fell. He sprinted up the tower, retrieving the bodies, hiding them behind a rock. He swung his sniper rifle and looked through the scope. He spotted his target.

The Prophet of Truth.
Hunter's armor provided him with a reticule, which found its way to the Prophet's chest. He hesitated.
That was his mistake
He moved his reticule up a small amount to the Prohphet's head. He held his breath. All it would take was one bullet......

Suddenly, Hunter was shot in the back by a plasma pistol. He crumpled to the ground, and turned his head. A Spec-Ops Elite had nailed him in the spine. He was finished. He watched as the Elite walked slowly over to him, and point the gun to his head.

A shot rang out.

Chapter 1: Just A Scout

The silence of nighttime always made Hunter feel right at home. It helped he was also in a high up, quiet tree. It gave him time to think, time he could spend trying to rememeber everything he had forgotten. He could only remember a fuzzy memory. He remembered someone's smile, the warmth it brought him....
"Hunter! You still with us?"
So much for that plan....
"Yeah, I'm here." The young SPARTAN replied. He was on a mission. He didn't have time for these memories. "You need to stay focused on ALL mission objectives. You get that?! DON'T LOSE TRACK OF YOUR OBJECTIVE!" Mendez's voice echoed in his mind. His objective.....was to provide sniper support for his squadmates. The objective was to help his allies get to the LZ, then for him to rendevous with them. Hunter gazed down the scope, watching his squad advance. He observed the landscape. A forest. Easy for ambushes. Hunter needed to be precise, or risk losing.

And he couldn't lose this for his squad.

He gazed down the sight of his rifle. He spotted a glimmer. "Wait. Trap ahead. 3 meters. Trip-wire." Hunter scanned the surrounding area. "I recommend taking a left and following the outskirts of the trees." He looked closely at the route he suggested. "There aren't any traps there. You're good to go." His squad moved forward, and after a few minutes of movement, Hunter spotted a target. "Hold it. I count 2 hostiles." Hunter glared at the guards. Naturally, he knew that ONI troops would love nothing more than causing trouble for the SPARTANs. He sighed. He aimed his sniper rifle, and fired one succesful shot. One ONI guard went down with a tranquilizer to the chest. Hunter lightly turned the rifle to the other man, and fired. "Tangos down. You're clear to proceed." The youthful sniper slid a new magazine home and looked back through his scope.

A little blunt, but the job's done....
Hunter observed as his squad moved forward to the LZ. The youth sighed and slung his sniper rifle to his back.

Here's where things get hard....
The youth pulled out an M6C. It wasn't the best weapon for open combat, but it would do. He slid a fresh tranquilizer clip into the handgun and slid down the trunk. He suddenly heard an engine.
Great. People are coming to check the mess out.

Hunter hid behind a tree and peeked out. The guards were investigating why they lost contacts, probably. It didn't surprise him. "4 hostiles, coming to investigate." He swung his sniper rifle out and looked through the scope another time.
The youth was angry with what he saw. "They've got live rounds. Bad idea to try and shoot back...." He broadcast to his team. "I'm going dark. See you in 5. Hunter, out." The youth looked at the ONI soldiers and sighed. This was going to get messy.

Hunter snuck right next to the edge of the forest, where the soldiers were. He grabbed an empty magazine and tossed it behind the car they came in.

"Huh?" One of them walked near the source of the sound. He looked around, and Hunter made his move. He immediatly moved as a shadow and grabbed the man's neck. The man struggled to no avail, and passed out. Hunter hid the unconcious man in a bush, and looked at the other three.

One down. Three to go....

Hunter grabbed the man's gun. He smirked. This was going to be fun. He fired a three round burst from the rifle into the dirt, and leapt behind a tree.

"What the?!" Two soldiers moved in to investigate. Hunter aimed his M6C, and fired it twice. Both men fell.

He was always a good shot when it mattered....

The last man looked around, panicking. Hunter moved in silently. Mendez always said that when you get nervous, you lose focus, making you easier to kill. The young SPARTAN decided to put that theory to test. He got within stabbing distance, and pulled out his stun rod.

"Enough watts of electricity to knock a man cold," they said. The youth pushed the rod to the man's temples and pushed the trigger. The soldier cried out and fell, knocked out. Hunter walked to his squadmates, sliding a fresh pistol clip home.

His squad leader looked at him, impressed.
"And they said you were "just a regular scout.""

Author's Note: Well, this was more of a flashback, leading to the events of the Prolouge. Edited due to canon error noticed by Noah. Thanks bro.
