Yes I'm fairly young. No, that doesn't mean I'm automatically dumber than you or have less life experience, thats just generally the case. I am not your general case.

Why would ONI approve of this? It doesn't make sense.

Cheaper.

Contractors likely never knew what the individual pieces they'd compete for go to exactly other than it being for an armor system of some sort.

In any case it's not exactly an uncommon practice in real world It's cheap, cost effective, and, in the event there's open competition between other companies, yields a higher quality and innovative product.

Do the different Armour pieces actually make any difference to the Armour?
Does the Mark V[B] have benefits over standard Mark V?

I realise that for game mechanics and balance etc. that Armour pieces are purely cosmetic.

Well if you think about it, the US Military doesn't manufacture its own weapons. Private, civilian companies do that. The military commisions and funds the development, but the work is done by the arms engineers. Like ArmLite makes the M4 carbine for the US military.

yeah I would guess they do, look at the E.O.D helmet as an example, that looks like a tank of a helmet. supposed to be designed to prevent decapitation in the event of an explosion by channelling the blast energy around the head, also has a smaller visor so increased survivability in that regard as well.

the GUNGNIR helmet is another example of increased survivability, it has no visor, so effectively no weak point like other helmets. the, just wish they actually did something in-game rather than just cosmetic, Crysis II did a cool job with 'armour modules' granting the player with different 'bonuses' so why couldn't Reach implement the same sort of system? get bugged so much by having those sensor modules on my helmet, when they do nothing!

hope the next game has something like that, and has an overall more adult, darker and more technological kind of feel to it!
