Seriously, the servers are totally dead, and the servers that DO run are all run by either people with good tastes in gametypes but bad connections or people with good connections and half of their frontal lobe withered away in Fiesta/Swords fetishes.

I am so glad my cousin loaned H2V to me to install so I didn't have to pay to play this god-awful game.

SmG Teams = BR Primary, Fiesta Secondary. Everyone spawns with power weapons 99.9% of the time, and it really just turns into Team Rockets/Swords.

Cloud CTF = BR Primary, Sniper Secondary. Nobody plays nice and uses the BR. Everyone spams the sniper into oblivion, most actually just abuse the faster melee recovery on the sniper rifle to double beat down, which totally voids all firearms considering the poor latency of this game.

CTF Tanks = BR Start, wouldn't have a problem with some Gulch big team if we didn't ALL SPAWN WITH SWORDS. Last time I checked, the sword was a power weapon, not a wise option for a damn secondary.

Every other server: Some of them have good gametypes like MLG or Team Slayer, but they're all empty...

Seriously? Are there no good servers to play on that play by console standards? No unmodded gametypes? No competitive play? Just random bulls**t from one server to the next? I guess Halo 2 was always like this, or it really just died when Microsoft pulled the plug on the XBL version.

Because its apparent to me every snot-nosed 12 year old who loves to play nothing but custom infection games in Halo 3 has found himself a copy of Halo 2 Vista and has thoroughly cleansed its server browser list of any kind of H2 gaming experience that retains any lasting or redeeming replayable value or enjoyment at the least.

So glad I didn't pay a penny for this utterly disasterous mess.

I'm thinkin that since the xbox versions of Halo had matchmaking, the PC versions will never be the same because everything you play is up to the players. The gaming isn't structured with PC server lobbies.

I know what you mean. I got Halo 2 vista last winter when I didn't have my 360 around and noticed a lot of people playing weird gametypes.

I decided to host my own games and they were more regular ones like team slayer, oddball, king of the hill, had regular gun setups, variety of maps, all that. I could tell a lot of people wanted to play these games as well since they filled up quickly. We even had a few zombie games and tower of power games going!

If you had not given up on the game yet, there's an easy way to fix your problem, make your own games :)

Join populated servers and leave quickly. Then make your own room and invite all those players you played with recently. I assure you that your room will fill up quick, especially when they notice they're in a room using a map that doesn't show up on server lists frequently. Not to mention you'll have the host perks like best connection and stuff (I tried not getting carried away with the power and always joined the losing team to help out lol).

Unfortunately I don't play that often anymore since I got my 360 back.

I heard about tower of power before, what exactly is it?

It's best played on Ascension.

The setup normally goes something like this:

No shields
No weapons on map
No grenades (although sometimes they're included)
Starter weapon: shotgun (only)
Friendly fire off (usually)
Usually there is no score limit, only a time limit.
One turret is placed on top of the base in the main tower.

Basically, a team's objective is to secure the turret. Once acquired, one member uses it to mow down everyone in sight and prevent them from coming up the tower. The rest of the team members protect him by watching the stairs and sides leading to the top.

At the end of the time limit, the team with the highest score (number of kills), wins.

Tower of power.

Where you have to "Capture a turret", with swat and shotguns.

Here is a good summary of it.

But just like ^ said, host your own.

Tower of Power is awesome when you have 10+ people but horrible with a small group, Cat and Mouse is also a great gametype to play with friends

Yeah. That's right. I don't have a 50 in H3. I never got Onyx in Reach. If a game sucks too much, I won't even bother trying for such trivial "accolades". Besides, I've done way more things that take far more skill and talent than anything that can be done in a video game.

You know, I was just going to post "well in the past when I played I never had that problem. Never."

But then I thought to myself, you know what maybe this guy is right. After all I haven't played the game in a while. Who knows, maybe things changed.

So I took the initiative, loaded up the game, and did what I recommended. Joined 2 games with a lot of people, left, made my own room, and invited all recent players.

It took about a minute for 1 person to come in. Another minute for another person to come in. Then, after like 3 minutes when I think the other game ended, 5 people joined the game.

7-12 people were constantly in the game with more people popping in and out.

And this is with hardly trying to get people in the room. Only did a massive invite once in the 5 games I hosted. And mind you now, this is on a wednesday noon-ish EST time, when I would expect not a lot of people to be on.

Hmmm, what do you know...

And then I remembered your trolling even when I first got the game and came around here. And I really have to hand it to you, you really ARE dedicated to this huh? You're STILL going on about how much you hate this game?! Wow, just.....wow.

I asked you before and you never gave a straight answer, what really happened when you played this game? Seriously now...NO normal person holds a grudge over a game this way. I guessed last time you probably got destroyed in a game in which you believe no skill is involved and just can't seem to let it go even after all this time.

Seriously... Halo 2 may not be the worst game out there, but is definatly is not the best, no where near the best.

The reason we hold a grudge against halo 2 vista is because of the mountain of problems it has: i.e controler favouritism, super lag on good PC's, lack of mods/maps, very very poor graphics (seriously, they are worse that halo PC), lack of suported resolutions, hog turret jumping, REALLY REALLY ANNOYING MELEE LUNGE, shield recharging gliches, crappy FOV.

Those are just some of the problems (anyone care to add more?)

Halo 3

There is no point in convincing Dusk.

Halo 2 Vista is fun to play every now and then but it's not the best. Like Zetren said, there are many other games to play that have better quality. Thing is, you don't play Halo 2 Vista because you think it's top notch, you play it because you have a history with it and have enjoyed it so much in the past.

At the same time that I do like Halo: Combat Evolved's graphical style more than Halo 2's, the graphics on Halo 2 Vista are greater than Halo's. (Yes, I do have at full settings with AF.)

REALLY REALLY ANNOYING MELEE LUNGEEh, better than having to lead your melees.. Close encounters on Halo 2 Vista are often annoying, but on Halo PC it's a nightmare.

crappy FOV. I didn't really think Halo 2 Vista had bad Field of View. It has support for widescreen resolutions, which I had to use a map editor to fix Halo PC's FoV problems. You either had to do that or go to a resolution that stretched the screen.

controler favouritism Just tries to even out the massive difference between PC and Controller. Even with Halo 2's enormous auto-aim and the admittedly less than great Mouse support, the Mouse is still the more precise tool. Only thing that the controller has on the kb/m is button combos, which can be done on the keyboard, it's just much harder.

Truth is, I love both games. Most of the time I love Halo PC more, but there are tons of times where I just prefer Halo 2 Vista more. I think the difference is that I don't take it seriously in the least. Maybe if I thought it mattered if I won or lost I'd hate it, but all I do is play games for fun. I'm serious about the love towards games, I am an enthusiast, but I'm never going to play a game seriously unless I'm getting money to do so. I just relax and have a good time.

I gave you a straight answer last time. I played it for about 50 games, dominated players who were supposed to be better than me given their levels, realized the game was utter crap compared to the high skill levels that I'm used to in other games, and got bored.

And then I explained that the reason I hate this game is because it's a breeding ground for pretentiousness; players who think they're FPS gods because they can play something that even a small child could grasp, yet fail in every skill-based FPS under the sun. What you're saying is true, and it hurts, so instead of a valid counter-argument, I'm just going to tell you to shut up.

I know, I know. But if I said otherwise, I'd be lying. And only one person among the two of us has a habit of lying.

Levels were in H2X. That's the game I played. My dislike for H2 isn't exclusive to its crappy PC port. Pretty sure we've established that by now. How you didn't piece that together when I mentioned levels is baffling, to say the least, as a middle-schooler would have figured it out.

You calling me pretentious is hypocrisy. Who was it that stormed onto these boards worshiping H2V, then when I called the game bad, who was it that was talking like he was some sort of FPS pro compared to me? And what happened after that?

I'm going by experience. And in my experience, anyone who has regarded H2V as worth playing is a bad FPS player. You proved that point in spades.

Quake? Nope.

Marathon? I did play the one they put up on xbox live. I probably would have enjoyed the game but every time I sat down to play it, 15 minutes in I would get motion sickness or something, it was so weird! It never happened to me before. I looked it up and apparently a lot of people had the same problem with the game. So friggin weird lol.

crysis? Played it, but not long enough to make an opinion on it. Didn't seem too bad though.

modern warfare? Yup, played almost all Call of Duty games. Fun games. Stumbled upon the original back in the day when my cousins and I were at some internet cafe. Been a fan since then.

dawn of war? Honestly never heard of it.

left for dead? Yup, Fun co-op.

HALF LIFE? Yup, bought counterstrike and didn't even know this came with it. I found it a few months after buying it and I was OMGWTFBBQ awesome!

doom? Played the demo on xbox live. Might have played it for a bit as a kid, don't remember but pretty sure I did.

far cry? Bought it few years back at a market, cd key didnt work :(

C O U N T E R S T R I K E ? Halo PC? Yes to both (of course). Funny enough, I played CS 1.6 the other day for a few hours, logged on to Halo PC for a game or 2 after, got a killtacular while no scoping with sniper o_0

freelancer? Sorry, never heard of it either,

F.E.A.R? Nope, friend did and said its great.

starlancer? S.t.a.l.k.e.r? Again, sorry never heard of these. (s.t.a.l.k.e.r. sounds familiar though)

Seriously... Halo 2 may not be the worst game out there, but is definatly is not the best, no where near the best.
PC version, for sure. I always felt the Halo series really worked best on consoles. Reflex/accuracy-based games like CS are amazing on pc, but frankly Halo games aren't really about that.

The reason we hold a grudge against halo 2 vista is because of the mountain of problems it has: i.e controler favouritism,

Could definitely see how this would upset PC fans, but Halo is a game meant to be played with a controller.

super lag on good PC's,
Agree, but from my experience, Halo 1 has a lot more lag problem. A shame really, it takes so much fun out of the two games.

lack of mods/maps
Meh, was never a fan of mods and fan made maps (assuming that's what you meant here). Kind of glad the game doesn't have it.

very very poor graphics (seriously, they are worse that halo PC)
I don't really mind the graphics in either game. Halo 1 looks like the Halo 1 I remember playing back in 2001-2002, Halo 2 looks like the Halo 2 I played in 2004-2005.

lack of suported resolutions

Never cared about this either

hog turret jumping
Not sure what this is, are you talking about those warthog launches back in Halo 1?

REALLY REALLY ANNOYING MELEE LUNGE
Doesn't Halo 1 have that super long extending arm? Can't be worse than that can it?

shield recharging gliches
Never heard of these sorry

crappy FOV
Never really bothered me....actually never even paid attention to this...

Yup, that's exactly what it was. I blathered about how to get people to join a room quickly when you said all that would happen is I would sit in the room by myself. At least you acknowledge you were wrong on that part. Superb! We're making progress!

Believe it or not, I actually DID take a screenshot anticipating your rebuttal, but alas I accidentally copied something else after. Not to worry, not to worry! If you are still adamant about this I shall provide one, heck even a couple, at a later time. I have no doubt I can get an even larger group instantly at a later time.

I gave you a straight answer last time. I played it for about 50 games, dominated players who were supposed to be better than me given their levels, realized the game was utter crap compared to the high skill levels that I'm used to in other games, and got bored.

But see here, this is where things don't add up for me. Let us say I give you the benefit of the doubt that some jerks were trash talking about how 1337 they are at this game and challenging you, and you showed them up, got bored because you were too good and the game was not worth your time.

My join date on this forum is October 3rd, 2010. EVERY time I came here, not a day missed, you had to instigate and ridicule Halo 2 and its fans. We are now 8 full months (well....2 more days) and STILL you are doing the exact same thing.

Now this is a small forum. Only few people come here, and most of these people are like me who play for the nostalgia factor. Some other people come every now and then, sounding very much like all they are looking for is to see if this is worth playing for the nostalgic factor, and THERE COMES DusK...

Talking about how the game is bad, everyone who plays is bad, the game takes no skill, etc and etc.

Now why would someone dedicate SOOOO much of their time (at the least 8 months, and I'm sure its been going on for an even longer time) to do this about a game in which they played a mere 50 matches altogether and got bored?!

Years after the game lost almost all relevancy and only the nostalgic stuck around...you have to go into every topic about the game for months, and probably for years.

And then I explained that the reason I hate this game is because it's a breeding ground for pretentiousness; players who think they're FPS gods because they can play something that even a small child could grasp, yet fail in every skill-based FPS under the sun. People who believe themselves far better at the FPS genre than they are. People like Ben. People like you.

But have we not already established the community is significantly minute? Only a few hundred people play? The peculiarity of your actions continues! How can this be a breeding ground then?

People like me that believe they are better at the FPS genre?! But here is the thing, never have I even posted anything remotely close to trash talking. Heck, I don't even have that right! My brother has been humbling me in games (aka whooping my ass lol) since we were kids!

And this is where it gets interesting that you perceived me to be someone who thinks I'm better at games than I am. Why would you come to this conclusion?

This irrational, obsessive compulsion to hang around a forum dedicated to 2 classic games throughout the year just bad mouthing it even though you have not played it in years all because some kids were talking trash to you one time is very worrisome bud. I don't know you, but based on all this I sincerely believe you have some issues you are not dealing with. I hope you resolve these, I'm sure it will make your life better.

There really is no stopping you in your rampage of idiocy. Wreckon was clearly talking about your dislike for H2 VISTA, not H2X. Don't blame me for your reading issues. And did I really say I was an FPS pro? I remember replying to you (after you randomly claim that I have poor fps skills JUST because I play H2V) that H2V has not been the only game I played on the PC (xbox is another story, and since you like to base so much off of the Halo games, i'll gladly assume that you suck at all FPS on the xbox cuz you couldn't even reach past a 35 in Halo 3, which is pathetic) and that i'd gladly 1 v 1 you in Halo PC just to see how good you were.

I made it seem as if I was tough at the game, but that has nothing to do with claiming a general "FPS dominance" over you.

And what is your experience? Are you saying that you've "dueled" people (who play H2V) in many other fps games other than H2V 50+ times in order to make a good estimate of how the rest of the H2V population will compare to you in other fps? I sure as hell doubt it.

Anyways, I can't stop you from running your mouth, but if it makes you happy inside to post like you're hot stuff on the net, then by all means, go ahead. Either way, I think nearly everyone on this board thinks the same way I do about you. Oh right, let me guess, it's cuz we're Halo"2oobs" as you like to call us.

Note: I don't worship H2V; I barely play the game. More bs coming from your mouth.

I have to say, I am in total agreement with Ben and WreckonerH, I too enjoy the spot of Halo 2 Vista now and again, even with its many problems.

I find your obsessiveness with Halo 2 Vista, Dusk and JacobGRocks, rather disturbing, especially you Jacob; you have played 426 hours of Halo 2 vista (from xfire), yet you criticize players of Halo 2 Vista day in day out...

2 days ago I got on H2V and i saw ~80 players. Now unless you like to categorize a game as "dead" with 50+ players, then you aren't going to be a very successful photographer. Pokemon? Oh that's right I remember when you said u had to go to bed cuz ur parents restricted you from staying up after 9~10pm (this is when we you asked to play with CE/H2V with me). Next time I play H2 I'll post screenshots of still managing to get games going despite the size of the community.

But seriously, you guys remind me of those Pokemon fanboys my skype friend trolled last week. They were unable to take criticism.

Your "skype friend" sounds like a hell of a badass, wish I knew him as well.

As for not being able to take criticism, you could not be farther from the truth. I acknowledge(d) almost every single one and pointed out why the majority of the community simply overlooks them and why.

But I'll excuse your ignorance since you have more important issues to deal with atm anyways. Good luck on your exams.

Oh, and BTW, Wreckoner and Zetren, Ben tried to 1v1 Dusk. He got pwnd. Because Dusk knows what he is talking about. Unlike you.

Lucky for me I am not burdened by any exams atm and so I did not miss this earlier in the topic. Grats to him, I'm sure he is a formidable player.

That is not the issue at hand however. The issue is why is he berating a small community consisting almost entirely of nostalgic players looking for casual matches, for close to a year now when he himself says he played it for a really small amount of time and got bored with it?
