Subject: How come none of the Spartan IIs hate Halsey?

Considering the fact that they were captured at a young age and put into brutal training, it appears to me that none of the Spartan IIs have even a slight resentment towards Halsey. Before you get into she is a mother figure to them, she could not have been. Mendez practically raised them by himself, so if anyones the parently figure its him not Halsey.

Now they were kidnapped at the age of 6 so for the those of you that say "They were too young so they couldnt remember what happened". Well I can remember as far back as 3 years old, so being kidnapped at 6 is pretty traumatic for anyone at that age. Also half of their friends died off during augmentation. They should despise the woman. But yet they dont seem to mind her. What the hell?

"We knew the world would not be the same.
A few people laughed, a few people cried, most people were silent.
I remembered the line from the Hindu scripture, the Bhagavad-Gita.
Vishnu is trying to persuade the Prince that he should do his duty and to impress him takes on his multi-armed form and says,
'Now, I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds...'
I suppose we all thought that one way or another."
- J. Robert Oppenheimer

They saw the war raging on, and they all felt some sort of duty. Perhaps realized the importance of the sacrifices they were making. And yes, some did see her as a mother figure. They all respected her.

Although who knows? Perhaps some have some reserved resentment towards her.

They were trained for battle and to not let traumatic things bother them at all.

I agree! I think it was just drilled into them, in the end it just was what it was!

yeah, Halsey was all they knew, she was a mother figure to them all and to be honest their sacrifice was for the greater good and most of them probably came to realise that.

I imagine, because they are smart, they understood the moral issues with their abductions but I dont think they would hold any grudges against Halsey. Once indoctrinated into the Spartan way they wouldnt think about anything other than being a Spartan, their abduction was just something that happened to them in their distant past in a different life.

  • 05.31.2011 10:03 AM PDT

OP didn't see the part about the training. They never got free time to actually think heavily over what happened at first.

  • 05.31.2011 10:48 AM PDT

I'm sure everyone respected her, but i DO know some spartans really dislike the way they had been taken, one of the spartans of grey team showed his opinion in one of the books.

And now, he is dead...

Just joking ^^

I really think that most of them simply accept the Spartan way of Life, and that they are just part of anything more bigger than his or her individuality.
And, well, I'm for sure that some of they just hide his feelings about that and just Kill. Aliens or Revolted Humans (or other Spartans in the multiplayer!). Kill for Rage!

Vengeance only leads to an ongoing cycle of hatred.

They looked up to her as a mother. She may have "kidnapped" them, but she treated them as her own.

But she never really interacted with them though. Mendez did all the training, education, raising etc. She just kidnapped them, augmented them, and then they were dumped into a war.

Um... she was part of the process. You make her sound like some sort of detacted CEO of the process, which is false.

"The measure of a man is what he does with power"-Plato

She did tell Soren everything and gave him a choice, Soren approved.

She's a deep character Halsey, I hope Karen Traviss dives in to her morality and feelings more in these new novels she's writing. Because she's really good at that, making characters more human.

She did interact with them sometimes.
Mendez could break their bodies but Halsey could break their mind.

"Halo, it's divine wind will rush through the stars, propelling all who are worthy along the path of salvation!"

Spartans don't have that much emotion.

There was one that hated being kidnapped. He tried to escape many times. I don't remember his name, but he was from Grey Team.

"I may not be perfect, but always been true."

She gave them the choice after they were abducted. They either stayed and trained or they were returned to their families with their memories erased.

She cared for them too, she treated them like persons unlike most people who treated them as freaks.

Plus she's kind of a [---] as seen in the Halo Reach cut scenes. It also says in the Halo Wars timeline that Anders hated her too.

I like how she dealt with those spartan-IIIs actually...
She did show some emotion with Jorge.

On a side note, on my fun [game?] thread on waypoint about if he had titles, a community leader said mine would be mr. Squeakers!

  • 05.31.2011 8:35 PM PDT

I'm sure quite a few SPARTANS did hate her after they found out their true origin.

See the other thread, I've recently updated my post.

PS: In response to your post, Didact came before it all, and as a result, all of the events taking place in the Halo trilogy are a result of his actions.

Okay, think of it like this.

The SPARTANs are not only a perfect genetic match, but the most physically capable and the smartest. They have the correct psychological profiles, being the most stable and morally sound.

It's very likely that their education covered themselves at some point, and that they related to it and as such Halsey so much so that they understood. After all they are the best and brightest.

The 1^-8% of the population that are eligible for SPARTAN training are by far superior human specimens. Just because you can't grasp it means they probably can.

They may not have hated Halsey, but she hated herself because of what she did to them, and they knew it.
