Subject: Where Did All The New Guys Come From?

bah

Bear with me here. When the new hotness struck, we were overcome with thousands of new guys, One question has always bothered me, where did they come from? Was there advertising somewhere? Did I miss some big parade on TV? Did a hole open up in the fabric of space-time? Where did they come from? They weren't here before the hotness, why after?

I noticed that but I just assumed it happened because the anouncement of Halo 2. BTW are you from Wisconsin?

I think its the fact that so many people came to this site before the new hotness, but didnt even know there were forums or anything (I didnt know). When the new hotness launched, navigating on this site became soooooo much easier, so all the people that used to come here (but werent members) finally saw that there were foums and that they could become a member.

"And thence the new rushed across the plains,
Coming in their thousands to crush and reign."

Crap, isn't it?

Also the ILB stuff also had it's effect on advertising, if you havn't noticed the amount of members who've signed up in the last month. I'm guessing that they saw the link in the theatrical trailer, went to ILB.com and then some how, made their way here (don't ask me how they got here from there, since i honestly don't know). But also it might be old new people (i.e. people who signed up earlier this year) making new accounts for no reason at all.

I'm actually thinking about making another account too. The alias would be 'Gramafision'.

The idea of it would be in the name. Except i'd have to brush up a bit on my grammer skills first.

I've always wondered the same thing, but never asked anyone. I don't need to make another account. What would be the point littlerat?

That would be my reasoning.

A mixture of things, most likely. As has been said before, easier navigation informed people that forums actually existed, and so they signed up. ILB.com probably also has something to do with it - it's probably attracted quite a few ARG players intrigued by the entire Halo phenomenon, and has unfortunately brought in a few impatient souls who expected some huge and rather unlikely announcement from the game, as well.

Also, since the first Halo, Bungie's profiile has been raised dramatically, and will continue to be raised. The fact that you won't be able to turn on the TV, go on the net or even walk outside without hearing about Halo 2 somewhere is no doubt going to get even more people curious about the developers behind this opus they keep on hearing about, and there will be even more new faces about. It's certainly going to keep this forum... interesting.

Yo Halo53, I'm real happy for you and I'ma let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best bungie.net profiles of all time. OF ALL TIME!

Member number has nearly tripled since the launch of this new site. I was wondering myself too. I just think Halo 2 is right around the corner. Hell I joined up for Halo 2 years ago. I'm just faster than most of you :D

Where Did All The New Guys Come From?

Ever played that one game named "Doom"?

Yes, that's how they got here.

  • 08.30.2004 9:42 AM PDT

-Note: I am not implying that all of the new guys are from hell. Some of them are fine, intelligent, people.

Well I didn't have the internet at home until I joined here. Before that, I used to go onto Bungie in college, browsing for new stuff etc (bare in mind that I did that for 2 years!).

I new of the forums, that's how I first saw Achronos! Why I didn't join back then, I don't know (maybe because I had no clue what a forum was?!).

Anyway, I joined because I got the internet at home. That's my reason.

How do you define new? Anything after the new hotness? Hmm... I wonder whether I would be included in that. When exactly did the site receive the update?

I used to come here when I started playing Myth (I played Marathon at school too, but I was only what 6 or 7 then? And during Myth I was 9 or 10? 1993ish right? It's been awhile :( ) Then I kind of disappeared from here even though I kept following Halo from it's inception. Then decided to come back in March this year after just coming in and glancing from time to time.
