Imagine a triangle. It's perfect, but a little plain. You take a chisel, and carve a small decorative symbol into it to make it a little more interesting. People like it, but it could use a little more.

So you then take a sledgehammer..

i did play it on herioc the first and last time I played. I thought most of the squad died, maybe i am wrong. As i said before, the story wasn't very memorable.

Noone in ODST died. You're probably thinking of Reach.

This is a RETICULE, and that is a RETICLE. I'm using the latter to aim. And what are you using?

dissagree halo 2 is the best

Campaign-wise, Halo 2 is the worst game. It felt too much like a copy of H:CE's campaign with only minor differences, and had a cliffhanger ending which I personally hate.

Anyway, among the things that make ODST's campaign quite memorable are the following:

- You're not playing an augmented super soldier again, i.e. the Master Chief, but basically a normal human beings even though they are elite soldiers, i.e. ODSTs.

- This in turn means that you don't run as fast, don't jump as high, and are generally weaker, which makes for more thrilling gameplay.

- Your goal is not to single-handedly defeat the Covenant and Flood, but to survive and find out what happened to your squad. And just in case someone missed the inherent irony, you're actually fighting to SAVE A COVENANT in the final parts of the campaign.

- Neither H2 nor H3 succeeded at all in capturing the proper feeling and atmosphere the games ought to have. After all, you're fighting a losing war against a technological superior alliance of aliens that are hell-bent to completely wipe out the human race. All the dread, despair, frustration, fear, and depression that such a situation are not delivered at all except for H:CE, and even there it's by far not as palpable as in ODST.

- On the same note, all other Halo games are too bright and colorful for my taste. Not that I dislike bright and colorful in general, but lighting and color schemes play a huge rule in transporting the basic feel of a game. And for games with a starting situation as described above, bright and colorful is a bad choice.

- The transition from playing the Rookie to playing Buck, Dutch, Mickey, or Romeo is far smoother than the transition from playing Master Chief to playing the Arbiter (and vice versa) in H2.

- Playing a total of five difference characters and experiencing their respective parts of the story through their eyes is a lot of fun.

- Having a squad mate with you during some missions in form of an NPC is quite fun and provides a lot of banter, ranging from fun to interesting. And unlike in Reach, they actually do their job and don't get in your way ... unless you rely on Buck to be a decent gunner on Coastal Highway when playing on legendary.

I agree with most of what you just said, but only minor differences between CE and 2?

I agree with most of what you just said, but only minor differences between CE and 2?

You start out in a human environment/installation; Pillar of Autumn in H:CE, Cairo station and Mombasa in H2. In both scenarios you fight to Covenant invaders. Next you're taken to a Halo ring where you first fight the Covenant, and later stumble across the Flood.

Admitted, maybe "minor differences" isn't correct especially since you got to play a few missions as the Arbiter. But H2 still felt far too much like "Hey, it worked in H:CE. So lets try that same recipe for H2."

I think the human side of the story had the same structure more or less, so I agree with you there. On the Covenant side, however, the story and structure felt much different for me. Well, to each their own I suppose.

Halo t-bags CoD.

Looking at your grammer and username, you are just a 12 year old that doesn't appreciate game for what they should be appreciated for. Get off of Bungie if you are going to trash talk ANY Halo game.

-Awesome storyline
-Likeable characters
-Mombasa Streets FTW!
-Firefight being about survival
-Sadie
-Complete Halo 3 MP
-Being part of a team
-Experiencing what the ODSTs do from their POV
-Wandering around alone at night with a feeling of hopelessness
-Silenced weapons
-Not being a Spartan
I just told you why I like ODST, how about you tell everyone why you dislike it.

This is a Reach account that I created the day they announced his name in a bnet weekly update. Any stats regarding ODST or Halo 3 are irrelevant. Also, Halo CE master race. Halo 1 > other halo games > other games.

Account Status: Silver :(

Halo 2 was extremely disappointing after playing Halo CE and the levels are much shorter and linear which is what annoyed me. There was a lot of waiting for things to happen when you took elevators. In CE you had to walk to most of the places. I don't find them very similar, but I agree that Halo 2 tried to copy CE. However it failed miserably. It didn't really have the feel of an open exploration, and personally it seemed like the graphics went backwards in the level design. Halo ODST was a wonderful refreshing story. I beat it in only four and a half hours, but it mixed up the gameplay enough for me to keep at it in one sitting. I don't understand why people don't like this game. Firefight is really boring by yourself, but I find the arcade feel pretty fun when you got a few friends and an achievement to go after.

Throughout the whole H2 campaign I had this "been there, done that" feeling. Although there actually was a lot of new stuff, it didn't feel like you were playing a new, fresh campaign but just a rehash of H:CE's.

Another reason why I like ODST is that you're not fighting Flood. Don't get me wrong, the Flood are a very interesting and outright fascinating foe, but I was quite happy not having to fight them anymore after I've done that in the three previous games.

Exitus Acta Probat

Ever since the 1st time i saw ODSTs in H2 i wanted to be one of them with their cool helmets, black armor, and just better than a marine feel especially since being a guy in a 2 ton suit of green armor didnt feel at all my style. I love all of halo but ODST is my favorite because you get a free-roam city, no other halo gives you free roam

Man, the Flood creeped me out so much when I was a little kid. They wouldn't die! They spread/multiplied.

The main reason I dislike the Flood is that they heavily rely on melee combat, whacking you with their tentacles. I dislike this type of opponent generally in shooters. I mean, if I wanted to play a beat'em up, I'd actually play a beat'em up. :D

I have to admit, however, that this changed over the course of H2 and H3, and the Flood kept using weapons more and more.

I love how you can get away with these posts in the forums because no moderators give a d@mn about it.

ODST could have been alot better had they taken as much time on it as they took to make their REAL games. (ODST took a few months, all other halos each took 3 years to make.)

It sucks as a full out game, but if they kept it as DLC like they originally planned, it would have been a must-have DLC for halo 3.
ODST was great. Amazing, given that it wasn't in development for very long.

Also, to bounce-off of something in your post, where are the goddammed mods?

Yes, I agree. If you don't like it, go find something you like. And get out of ODST forums.
