Yes. It is canon no matter what the haters say.
Except the female elite's appearance.

As we have no other descriptions of them, I fail to see why their appearance in legends is non-canon.

If it's the "Lips!" thing, they press their mandibles together to form lips when out of combat.

Halo nations said there appearance was non canon. But In Halo 3 you could chose the sex of either your Spartan or your Elite.
The female Elites in Halo 3 looked very similar to the males.
If game canon is more acceptable than book canon, then their appearance in Legends is technically non canon.

Um... In Halo 3 the "male/female" only changed the spartan voiceset. It didn't affect model at all, and I don't believe it changed anything for the Elites.

Literally, there was no visual changes for elites or Spartans, so IMO basing the appearance of a Female Elite from legends being non-canon due to that seems... weak.

Halo Nations has zero authority to dictate what is canon and what isn't. Furthermore multiplayer mechanics do not make for canon. Saying that changing your voice to female and choosing an elite automatically makes it a female is as dumb as saying that choosing grunt birthday party means that spartans and elites are filled with confetti instead of blood in canon. Even then, note how that option doesn't exist in the slightest in Reach for Elites and there is now a true female model for Spartans.

My Grandfather was a Desert Ranger, my Father was a Veteran Ranger in the NCR. My father was killed by Caesar's Legion and they took my Brother. It's now my responsibility to uphold the mantle of the Rangers and avenge my Father and find my Brother.

Yeah for the most part...more than Halo: Cryptum...

No, except for Origins, I do not consider it cannon. The one I consider the least cannon is probably The Duel. I mean, seriously? Since when were Elites just Japanese people in different bodies? Not to be racist or anything, but thats retarded. I consider Odd One Out to be more cannon than that.

Not to mention The Babysitter. Ugh. SOOOOO freaking cliche with the stupid anime Spartan girl thing at the end.

The only one I even remotely liked was The Package, and they even managed to screw that up.

I think Legends is a huge slap in the face to Halo. It makes Cryptum look like the best book ever. And that says something.

Of course, this is all just my opinion.

Actually the Elites have always been very inspired by Feudal Japan. And it's not a surprise that the Japanese attributes int he Elites would be brought more to the forefront in an anime. Of course the Japanese are going to emphasize the aspects of their own culture that they see. The same is true for series that originate in Japan and are then exported, any similarities to Western Culture will be emphasized.

And what did you find wrong with the Package? There's not at all wrong with it, and I think it's probably the best one of the whole bunch.

On Topic:

Of course Halo Legends is canon, everything that's published by Bungie or 343i is completely canon unless otherwise stated. Now that doesn't mean we have to like whatever it is they've published, but regardless of what we think of that particular game, book, or whatever, it is canon and there's nothing the fans can do about it.

Halo Nation is awful. I found their MAC article stating that shipboard MACs fired at 60% light speed. They even sourced it, but the source said nothing of the sort.

Hmm...

I wasn't personally fond of Legends to be honest. I don't consider it to be cannon, even taking into account the 'artistic license' argument.

However, it took a while for me to realise that it's not really aimed at western audiences, and was an attempt to garner more support for the franchise in Japan. When taking this into account, I'm happy to enjoy Legends.

Don't get me wrong, I love anime quite a lot, but there are some stories and universes that just don't transition very well into formats of that nature. I expect I'll be asked to explain my reasoning, and I will if queried, but ultimately, I do not accept Legends as canon.

Yes.

All of Legends' canon errors can be chalked down to artistic license. The only true error is "Ralph 303."

This.

Also: many other "flaws" as they were called from the start have been given backing from the books.

Take the Elite culture for instance. Very Japanese inspired, but the real fans already knew that because Bungie told us so. Furthermore: Cole Protocol backed the whole idea of how they live a fairly simple, non-heavy on Forerunner/Covie tech life. How they dress, how they behave etc.
Even then there are some artistic licensing elements that don't quite fit but that is always the case in any series. Hell: Chiefs MK VI armor even looks different in H3 compared to H2...

Or take the "Japanese" buildings in The Babysitter. Who says they are Forerunner? After Cryptum chances are that these are simply ancient pre-"human" buildings. And actually: the sizes of the brutes compared to the humans might be exagerated, but are closer to how its described in the books than it is portrayed in the games (Brutes are supposed to be 3 meter tall monsters).

Cloaked UNSC ships? From the top of my head I can seem to remember one of the books mentioning the UNSC having cloacked ships....Fall of Reach I believe....

Halsey: yep, that one is pretty stupid even with creative licensing in mind. Should have looked older. No excuse for that.

pre-MJOLNIR power suit: again, take away the creative license (the over the top Japanese fireworks show) and you have a thing that has been described in Fall of Reach and Halseys Journal.

So apart from it being canon, simply because it is (except for Odd One Out), many of its "flaws" are actually not flaws and can be traced back to the books or got back up from the books afterwarths....

Many gave their lives so that we could live on. I intend to honor them by remembering them. Remember Cyborg. Remember John. Remember Noble.

Hell no! Especially the Origins part is terrible.

Like I said before: go and read Cole Protocol. Elites are like that. Also: Bungie always have said that Elites are based on Samurai culture...

Yes, but Sangheili in kimonos? Sitting down to warm sake and a freaking giggly human-like Sangheili female? Overdone.

I accept very little of Legends as canon. And by very little, I mean the things that are more discussed and implied. Overall the style of Anime annoys the hell out of me. Especially the dialogue. You would think that with voice overs they could make it sound less... Anime-ish, but no. It always fails. And a Spartan being taken out by three needles? No. The turkey-neck Spartan? What the hell... A Dr. Halsey that's BLONDE?? Shut the front door.

The Package was the worst one, I thought. I watched the interview, and the creator kept saying that he was "such a fan." Then why did he f**k up so much? Did you know the Major was Thel 'Vadamee? It's been repaired by saying he was Thel 'Lodamee. Even though after his failed duel the Shipmaster said that his only path was "Death or Arbiter." That is not how one becomes an Arbiter.

So you don't like it equals something being canon or not? Thats like saying "I don't like slavery being part of our history, so I don't consider it to be our history"...
Again: Cryptum backs this up quite a lot.

The only one I even remotely liked was The Package, and they even managed to screw that up.

Opinion. Only thing truely wrong about that episode is the way Halsey is portrayed WAY younger than she should be. Other than that: pretty much follows canon-lines.

I think Legends is a huge slap in the face to Halo. It makes Cryptum look like the best book ever. And that says something.

Of course, this is all just my opinion.

Legends is a great expansion to the series, and Cryptum is one of the best books in the series...
Opinion.

Anyways: you're reasons for not considering it canon don't hold. So you don't have any valid reasons to not consider it canon, sorry.

The whole point of a discussion is to take the subject matter and evaluate from different view points, we wouldn't get very far quoting facts at each other would we?

And declaring what is obviously opinion as opinion makes you look like am ass, in my opinion :)

Oh, and your assessment of the validity of this mans opinion is also opinion.

IMO legends is canon, but less so than most other forms.
