First of all, we have permission to this modification. I contacted Frankie and he said that as long as we do not ask for donations nor gain any money from this project, then we are allowed. We are doing this as a fan project ONLY.



First Contact is planned to be a singleplayer modification for Half Life 2's Source Engine based on the novel The Fall of Reach by Eric Nylund. It is not, nor will it ever be a clone of Halo or Halo 2 ported to the source engine. Attempting something like that would be asinine. If people wanted to play Halo they could boot up their consoles or play HaloCE on their computers. To date, the only Halo modifications that I have seen even make a decent attempt at getting started is Project Torlan for Unreal Tournament and Halogen for Command and Conquer.

First Contact is not a Halo Remake, it will feature several gameplay innovations that will push the Source engine to its limits.

First Contact will feature:
- An original storyline based on the events in The Fall of Reach
- An original soundtrack by Mothergoat (www.mothergoat.net)
- New weapons
- Drivable vehicles
- Intelligent allies
and much more.

Story
Up until February 7th, 2525, humanity has never once come into contact with any other sentient life. On that fateful day, the UNSC High Command noticed that one of the systems on the outer edge of the colonies failed to report in by the end of one standard Earth week.. The UNSC cruiser Redwood was sent to investigate the Harvest System and report back on its findings.
When the Redwood failed to report back to UNSC, a battlegroup consisting of the frigates Heracles, Arabia and Vostok was formed. They entered Harvest space and began to record their findings. The screen showed a large people mass in orbit around the planet. Following UNSC procedures for the contact with another race of beings, Captain Butch Veredi of the Heracles attempted to initiate communications with the object, but was cut off by this chilling message:
"Your destruction is the will of the gods and we are their instrument."
Immediately after the message was over, the sides of the large purple mass glowed red and shot a plasma beam at both the Arabia and the Vostok. Both ships were hit in the stern area and detonated as the plasma leaked through to the reactor. The Heracles jumped into slipspace just as a plasma bolt impacted with the starboard side, nearly crippling the main systems. Due to the extent of damage, the Heracles was not able to return to reach for several weeks.

Please take note that First Contact is a non-profit, community based modification. If you are looking to make money by joining this team, please don't contact us. You must also be willing to dedicate yourself to this modification. What we are trying to do is going to take a lot of work, and if we have people working half-heartedly, then there's no point in continuing.

Some of these want "ads" came from the Golden-Eye:Source recruitment thread, and we basically have the same prequisites.

Programmer(s) - We are currently looking for very experienced coders in the fields of game development. We are attempting to push the limits of the Source Engine, Graphically and by game play. Which will require experienced developers in every field. We need people who can code in anything and everything we could possibly want. So if you want to be apart of a great team, and be apart of a great mod, we want you!
- 2 Years experience
- Extensive knowlegde in either C/C++,DirectX,Shader Technology
- 6 moths experience with Source Engine

Skinner(s) - We are currently looking for about 1-2 additional skinners, which will be working mainly on our weapon, vehicle and character skins. We're looking for experienced skinners, perferably experienced in previous mod, or game development. Need to show some previous work.
- 2+ years of photoshop 7.0+
- Knowledge of height/bump/normal mapping.

Texture Artist(s) - Currently we are looking for only those that can be completly committed to just our mod, and 100% committed to getting work done. We are looking for experienced texture artist(s). If you can texture weapons and other such things, that will be a plus. You will need to show some previous work.
- 2+ years of photoshop 7.0+
- knowledge of height/bump/normal mapping.

Animators(s) - Applicants must have previous weapon animation experience. We are looking for both character animators, and weapons animators. Please post some of you previous work in the recruitment forum to be considered.
- Extensive knowledge in character and\or weapons animation.
- Ability to rig models ( not required, but recommended )

Mappers - We are currently looking for 1-2 more mappers to help bring our game to life. Applicants must be completely dedicated to the modification and have 100% dedication to get work done. Previous work must be shown.
- 1-2+ years of experience with Valve Hammer Editor/Worldcraft
- Ability to work well with other mappers.

Sound Designers - First Contact is looking for experienced individuals that would be able to create various sound effects for the modification. Some these would be ranging from vehicle, weapon and environment sounds.
- 1-2+ years of experience Adobe Audition or similar.

Modelers - We are looking for 2 more active modelers that are able to create characters/weapons/objects. This could range from creating enemies to creating vehicles and weapons.
- Experience with high Polygon models.
- Extensive knowledge in human anatomy
- Knowledge in Normal mapping is a plus.
- Knowledge in UVW maping. ( not required, but recommended )
