Subject: Halo 3 ODST and all halo games without multiplayer LIVE

Hi everyone ,
I just wanted to ask what did you think about a guy that NEVER played on a Halo Live match because he doesn't have Xbox LIVE ?
Well that guy is me and, anyway, I still appreciate Halo campaigns and ODST firefights in solo.
Answer please .
I know this topic is unnecessary as all of the noobs'ones .
(To be honest I don't consider myself as a noob ....)

Vengeance only leads to an ongoing cycle of hatred.

Although Halo 2's, Halo 3's, and Halo Wars' Multiplayer is extremely fun, the campaigns are what's really important for any game. In this day and age, everybody is so Multiplayer focused. But, honestly, that's not how things should be. Don't get me wrong, I love playing online, but people are forgetting about the Campaign. Even the developers seem to be just blowing off the campaign. So, I respect you for that and wish more people appreciated the campaigns and not just Multiplayer.

What house has a rocket pod, has legs, and has a long narrow barrel that probably shoots something powerful?

Sounds like you're describing the lower half of my body, actually.

I always see multiplayer as extra. To tell you the truth I am usually campaign focused and the Halo campaign I hated the most was Halo 3. You don't need scarab battles or a full assault battle to have a good campaign. I seriously thought Halo Reach's campaign did what it was suppose to do. Show what happened on Reach and it did it just fine even though it was short. ODST showed different types of things that happened to the different ODST and gave you the feel that you were still a squad even though you were separated. Even if the character developments were bad their wasn't much in the other Halo's.

Anyways, I hope we get another ODST campaign. Getting tired of being a spartan.

This is a RETICULE, and that is a RETICLE. I'm using the latter to aim. And what are you using?

I couldn't agree more with the two of you, and I'm actually happy that there still are people who appreciate a good campaign and don't get drawn into that multiplayer frenzy.

Don't get me wrong, I've played H:CE (actually H:PC), H2, H3, and Reach online A LOT and loved it (didn't like Halo Wars multiplayer, though). But I still go back and play all the campaigns again and again, or at least a few select missions that are especially fun. For example, I've just finished my second legendary playthrough of ODST a few hours ago, and I'm now running around in New Mombasa just for the fun of it.

That's simply the most important part for me in any game: the single-player mode(s). But in this day and age, it seems like that multiplayer modes are far more important for the majority of people, and the campaigns are just some kind of bonus, sadly.

Thanks, at least I found people with the same opinion for the halo campaigns.
Halo3 Odst is great , i don't have reach but i'll see if I can buy it ...

Yep. I agree with what you said, for the most part. Although, I loved Halo 3's campaign and hated everything about Reach. lol. Other then that though...I completely agree.

I've always purchased the Halo titles especially for their Campaign. For me, I'm fascinated with video games that have a rich narrative, with a strong story, interesting characters, and lots of drama and emotion. The Halo franchise certainly has all of that. However, Multiplayer is a big component in every Halo title. In fact, Halo 3 introduced me into the world of Online Multiplayer - it was an astounding experience.

So, are you missing out by not playing Multiplayer? In a way, you are. However, Campaign will always be important to the franchise, and I expect 343 Industries to honour that. So, you can always look forward to an excellent Campaign in every Halo title. So, in that respect, you're not missing out at all.

Hi

Offline ODST is one of my favorite Halo games, I find the local firefight to be a lot more fun than Reach's.

Exactly how I feel, except for the part about every Halo has an excellent campaign. Reach's was just okay IMO.

Halo 3 was also the first game that introduced me into online gaming. I bought the game for the campaign and I got an xbox live account almost exactly a year after. I had loads of fun with multiplayer, in some cases more than campaign, but playing campaign never gets old, at least not as fast as multiplayer, for me anyways.

When I look back over the many years I've been playing games I notice all my favourite ones are single player only, or at least more focused on single player. Games such as Marathon Infinity, Ocarina of Time, Metroid Prime, Demon's Souls, Prince of Persia, and Star Fox 64 I will never get tired of.

It's a shame games now a days are focusing more on multiplayer than story but there are still games to look forward to that focus on campaign such as Skyrim and Batman Arkham City. The single player experience will always trump the multiplayer experience in my eyes but multiplayer is always worth checking out.

Anyways that's my view on the matter.

Absolutely true. In my opinion, the times in which computer and video games offered entertainment only via their gameplay are over - and have been over for a long time.

Today, a good game has to deliver the same quality in narration, plot, etc. like a good movie or book. It's another media to convey a story and - unlike books and movies - allows for even deeper immersion. And to bring this topic back to Halo, ODST spectacularly succeeds at the combination of delivering a great story and great gameplay.

I totally agree with all of you, and what about other FPS games like the call of duty franchise or the battlefield one?
I actually get a lot of fun from the BBC2 campaign .

  • 06.06.2011 1:19 PM PDT

You can't kill me I commit suicide!

Yes. Finaly, I will never go to Multiplayer before Campaign, you do Campaign first, then go into the Multiplayer. It just has that wonderful feel to it that you actually did something others usually don't, oh, and ODST is brilliant.

  • 06.06.2011 5:18 PM PDT

I couldnt agree more. ODST is brilliant, and honestly my favorite of all the Halo games. Campaign always comes first and I play it daily. I own every Halo game ever made and I prefer the campaign or firefight to matchmaking. I enjoy playing against other people but that feeling quickly fades after a few matches against people who have no class. Sometimes it's more fun to play as a normal person who hasnt been enhanced and has to rely on marksmanship. Maybe if we're lucky we might just get to play as ODST's in the future.

I played the first BF:BC for a few days, but I didn't really like it. There are no complaints from me about the gameplay, but I disliked the setting and didn't finish it. Same goes for CoD, MoH, and so on.

FPS games with a sci-fi theme are much more interesting for me, and I've played the Half-Life series (where the heck is Episode 3?), F.E.A.R. series, BioShock 1 + 2, Doom 3, Duke Nukem 3D (along with all other Duke games, and I'm eagerly awaiting DNF), GoW 1 + 2 (I disliked multiplayer quite a lot), Deus Ex 1 + 2, and probably a few other games I can't remember off the top of my head.

Exitus Acta Probat

regardless of how great the multiplayer is, i will NOT buy a game that has no story or a crappy story. the first thing i do when i buy a game is complete its story mode/campaign/etc, then multiplayer. ODSTs story was definitely one of my favorites and i enjoyed that you had a brand new version of a night vision, silenced weapons, and a magnum that would make HCEs soil itself all because it fit the setting

The next games on my list are:
Halo Reach
Rage
F.3.A.R
Deus Ex human revolution
Prey 2
Duke Nukem
etc ...

But try BBC2, it's good.
Half life 2 episode 3 is coming soon i guess ...( it already has been announced )

I completely agree with you there. First thing I did for Halo reach was play the campaign on legendary (I always do this ever since COD: WAW). Beating a games campaign first and on the hardest difficulty is amazing!!! So much harder then anything else you'll see, there are a lot of people that complain about a game being so short. To that I only have to say that they should try it on the hardest difficulty, Halo reach took me two months to beat (friggin last missions impossible!!!! but I did it). Back to things I agree completely, campaigns are necessary for games. Hey you don't know what kind of things the developers add inside the campaign ( monkey family in Halo 3 XD )

You know what sucked more about Halo Reach. THE BRUTES!!! Ugly looking things in this game *goosebumps all over* They looked like dried up prunes OMG killing them made me feel like I was doing them a favor.

This is a Reach account that I created the day they announced his name in a bnet weekly update. Any stats regarding ODST or Halo 3 are irrelevant. Also, Halo CE master race. Halo 1 > other halo games > other games.

Account Status: Silver :(

You get respect from me. Playing with friends in real life is the best anyways.

I'm a hero!

You're missing out on the quintessential halo experience. Even Halo CE which didn't have online support had impeccable online play. I can say with confidence that had Halo 3 not had online I wouldn't have played 5000+ games. The campaign is fun, and it is the first thing you go to, but when you're done and want something else that is different - you turn to MP. That being said ODST I think is one of the few exceptions, seeing as it doesn't have a standalone MP (it has H3 but thats another story) its co-op is what makes the game.

  • 06.15.2011 9:42 AM PDT

Walk by faith. Dude. Not by sight.

On-line is a lot more fun if you have a lot of on-line friends or in a clan. Halo is great because it's campaigns can stand alone without on-line play.
