I'm in the process of building my own pc. I have decided to go pci express with a Geforce 7800 GT video card. Just wanted to know if any of you have this card, and if so, if you recommend it or not.
The review's seem pretty good, and I am about a week from purchasing it.

Thanks............

The new X1900XTX is an enthusiasts card (read: $$$), to be compared with the 7800 GTX (mind the X) and not with the 7800 GT.

The 7800 GT is still above mainstream of course, but the the price is "a bit" more democratic.

nVidia's GT cards always offered the best value for money...

Go for it!

Personally, I would go with the best ATI graphics card you could get a hold of. It's the brand that's in the Xbox. nVidia is in the PS2 and personally, it's graphics are a bit lame.

Get your facts straight... nVidia is in the Xbox and ATi is in the PS2.

However, ATi is in the Xbox 360 and nVidia will be in the PS3.

Of course the PS2 has -blam!- graphics compared to the Xbox, its a lot older.

And it's not because certain consoles have this or that brand that this or that brand is good or not. You can't compare console graphics chips with PC video cards.

Thanks for the advice. I am going to go with the nVidia. Was thinking on the GTX, but will stick with the GT for now.

yet another correction: ps2 uses nvidia also (allegedly, i cant find anywhere that says for sure). the only 2nd gen console to use ati that i know for sure was the gcn. after all it said ati on the front of the console lol

as for the 3rd gen, x360 uses ati, ps3 will use nvidia (as of last thing i read, which may not even be true) and we dont know about the rev.

i like ati better because for some reason it looks to me like ati makes richer, deeper colors and lighting... but i bet its just me thinking that for some reason ^^

nevertheless, thats the reason i always get ati, and its reason enough for me to say i prefer ati. i have nothing against nvidia... i just for some reason like the look of ati-rendered graphics better for some reason

considering that the price tags on those are about as much as a 40 some inch tv, they are insanely good. The ati 1900xtx is only about 750-900 dollars, u have to really be into gaming to get those. I have just got the nVidia 6600 after the ati x700pro said it works with dell demension 4700 (it doesnt). The nVidia 6600 works extremely well, i have lost all respect for ati now.

Its not thier fault you computer doesnt work with it. You might have bought the pcie card, and you really wanted the AGP one. I like ATi's colours better than nVidia's, but really, I don't think it really matters what brand you get. You may want to go with ATi if you might consider a 2 card solution in the future. They have a much more flexible system.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing Chewy. I've heard more review's on nVidia's dual card, sli setup. But could change to ATI in the future. Once the bug's are worked out and there are some game's that could take advantage of them, I could change the mother board and add a card.

Again, thank's for the advice.

Gamecube uses ATi graphics. It does really well with Resident Evil: Zero.

I personally think that a lot of the enthuisiast's cards are too powerful to be used with their supporting hardware. There are bottlenecks on the Motherboard, CPU, and RAM that need to be overcome before these cards can be utilized to their full potential. So, unless you're looking at overclocking, I think that a lot of the power you buy in these cards is simply wasted.
