What if Truth, Mercy and Regret hadn't discovered that Humans were to inherit the Forerunner's legacy? What position do you think we would have in the covenant? Do you think that we'd even accept being brought in and tried to fight?

I think it will lead to war.

We humans won't accept alien religions,we stay with our own.We also want to be independent and not being controlled by the prophets and elites.

Which is quite unfortunate, considering that we'd make an AWESOME addition to the Covenant.

Unfortunately we are able to activate Halo, meaning that we would kill everything to go on The Great Journey.

True.

I think it would have certainly led to war of some sort. We would have rejected the offer to join the Covenant due to our unwillingness to follow their religion, and they would have attacked. Just as well, humanity was a large interstellar force, and conflict would have been inevitable.

Thought it could have bought humanity a couple of years of peace and maybe trade.

the covenant would fall apart because their religion is a lie

Though it would likely lead to war, as I would assume most people would be unwilling to accept the Covenant religion/hierarchy, it would probably mean a much more fragmented humanity. If you are not fighting a genocidal force, but rather one that just wants your subservience, it would probably mean a lot of people would defect once they saw the war wasn't going their way.

I didn't add my opinion, so here goes:

Personally, I think it would have led to humanity's subjugation by the Covenant. They would have backed us into a corner (meaning we'd fight and lose) and the survivors would have joined out of self-preservation.

In all honesty, I believe we would end up believeing in the Great Journey, we have no idea what the Forerunner were before discovering Installation O4, The Monitor almost triggered John to activate it, Once the Covenant found out they could, they would use it to their advantage and all life is gone.

Well, at the time the games take place, humans as a species are apparently largely less religious than in modern times. I have a feeling that we wouldn't readily go back to dictatorial, totalitarian theocracy. This would likely ignite an alternate Human-Covenant War. Some of us would inter the Covenant out of fear, I'm sure some of our number of a more credulous stock may join and legitimately believe in the Covenant's doctrines.

I think this is pretty much the best explanation - considering we would of learnt about how the Hunters etc were forced to join the Covie's through fear of extinction / war. We would have been morally opposed to all this malarky

Staff Sergeant future 510, serial number HHT3-09PL, Flood Military Reserve.

I think initially, there would be a human civil war. Humans that pledge themselves to the Covenent would fight along side the Elites against those who resisted.
