Hey everyone thanks for clicking on my post. people may know me from my map:grounded or probably what i like to do most on reach: making screenshots.

screenshots, what does it take to make a good one... creativity, effects and most of all: feeling.

FEELING? yup that's right what i mean with that is: a screenshot without an awesome effect can be great because of the feeling it gives you (say, it reminds the viewer of his glorydays on halo 2 for example, then the viewer gets a good feeling and will probably like the screenshot)
this is a very! hard thing to capture in your screenshot because everyone will probably feel different about your screenshot.

take this screenshot for example:
http://www.bungie.net/Stats/Reach/FileDetails.aspx?fid=180705 63, the feeling to me, is great!
why?
- mark V with green color reminds me of halo 1 (great game)
- the place is sort of covered with walls, so i cannot see where this is on forgeeworld: which makes it a unknown area!
That's brilliant!... (when you can see where the screenshot is taken, it kills the feeling for the viewer.. Mark my Words!)
but: there were no effects used in this screenshot which makes it kinda dull, so why not move on to effects?

EFFECTS
the most important thing about effects is probably: go to breakpoint, pen and ink FX on, and then you can do a lot of things (here are 2 i did):
- push a jetpack in the snow and win a focking All Star!
- use the View

okay i'm not gonna tell you all my secret techniques but i think if you go to breakpoint + Pen and ink ON, and you just play with a couple of gadgets, weapons, vehicles etc. you will probably discover effects yourself that are amazing!
oh free tip just for you guys: use lights like u never used them before... think about that one.. ;)

now let's move on to CREATIVITY which is probably the most important factor to make a screenshot good.
especially for All stars.

Here is the ultimate example!!! (IMPORTANT)
okay so i was looking at the bungie.net blog and i saw Allstars were up, so i was happy and wondering what the subject would be.. The jetpack!
and when you see the subject you need to think:
- what are other people gonna make?
- how am i gonna be different?
- and how am i gonna make it look good?

i thought everyone was going to make pictures with spartans or elites with a jetpack flying in the air with some sort of cool effect... so i started thinking, and realised no one would probably make a screenshot where only the jetpack was featured.
so i decided to lay it on the ground on breakpoint, pen and ink... i was happy (although the hologram on the jetpack was a pain to avoid being seen in the picture)

i hope you guys all liked the guide and learned something, if there are any questions, feel free to ask..

have fun on reach!

"Do not do unto others as you would expect they should do unto you" - Maxims for Revolutionists

Nicely put together. Never under estimate patience too. Getting the perfect screenshot is never luck. As this guide shows with some time and practice you can create something really special.

Nice guide =)
