As soon as I downloaded the latest driver for my graphics card, Halo PC is messed up. I used to be able to play it on a nice square box with black bars going up the sides, but now no matter WHAT resolution I set it to, it stretches all the way across the screen. How do I get it back?

Something smells fishy...

Try setting the game to your monitor's native resolution.

Also you an do the -vidmode jazz to the target line.

Uh, that would be 1366x768. And what is this jazz you speak of?

  • 06.02.2011 5:10 PM PDT

Use this, " -vidmode 1366,768,60" on your shortcut.

Yeah. That's right. I don't have a 50 in H3. I never got Onyx in Reach. If a game sucks too much, I won't even bother trying for such trivial "accolades". Besides, I've done way more things that take far more skill and talent than anything that can be done in a video game.

ATi or nVidia?

If it's ATi, go to Desktops and Displays, click your display at the bottom of that window, click Configure, click the Attributes tab, check the "Enable GPU scaling" checkbox and set the radio button under it to "Maintain aspect ratio". I don't have this option, because my monitor's VGA, but yours must be a DVI monitor if you were able to get a fixed aspect ratio.

If it's nVidia, make sure "Use nVidia scaling with fixed-aspect ratio" is selected in your display's options.

I really don't know which. I'm pretty sure it's some Intel crap, I'm using an awful Dell prebuilt laptop.

Also, I tried the vidmode thing, didn't change anything.

Right click My Computer, click Properties, click Device Manager, Click the black arrow next to Display adapters, and tell us what you find there.

It says:

Intel(R) HD Graphics

Also, I learned that this problem is not exclusive to Halo.

This is the average H2 Fanboy.
Xfire: JacobGRocks.
50 in H2/H3? Great, but you still fail at this.

Go into the gpu settings and disable scaling.

Start menu -> Control Panel -> Intel GMA for Mobile (change the view to classic or "All Control Panel Items" to see it right away) -> Display -> General Settings -> dropdown menu for Scaling -> change that setting to something else. I dunno what you'd see in there, but that's what's doing it.

I couldn't find Intel GMA for Mobile even after setting it to display everything and doing a few searches. However, I did find something. I found this, which might have something in it. I played around with it a bit, but nothing seems to be wrong.

Dude, follow my instructions.

Right click you halo shortcut.
On the "Target" line, add this:" -vidmode 1366,768,60"
Make sure there is a space.

It will now work, it will. Make sure you did it properly

LOL'd at the file name.

Yeah, that's your video adapter's control panel. The setting should be in there somewhere. My guess would be General Settings. It would be called "scaling" something or other.
