I love ODST's and have already finished the ODST campaign. However, I want the ODST armor for my xbox live avatar. Apparently you have to get the Good Samaritan achievement.
I've completed the campaign so I can I go back and try and get the achievement? Do I start and select the first mission? If I stop playing campaign (turn off xbox) and come back to it can I get the achievement? Do your teammates able to stop you from getting the achievement by killing a Covenant Engineer? How long does this achievement take to achieve?

Sorry, I'm asking too much questions. I just really want this achievement. Please help if you can. Thanks.

This is a RETICULE, and that is a RETICLE. I'm using the latter to aim. And what are you using?

Restart the campaign on normal with the level Mombasa Streets; the one at the TOP of the level/mission list, not the one at the bottom. Play through the campaign normally but just do NOT kill any Engineers at all.

If you encounter Covenant patrols on the streets of Mombasa that you can't bypass, take out the Brutes first. Once the last Brute dies, the Engineer will explode. This does NOT ruin the achievement for you since it wasn't you who killed the Engineer, but the bomb the Brutes put on it.

When you're flying the Banshee during the Kikowani Station mission, you can destroy the Engineer recharge stations without problems (the big, glowing things that are either on the floor or the walls and blow up in huge explosions), but I'd still avoid killing any of the Engineers floating around.

Hey thanks, man. How do you restart it? Just select the first mission?
And wouldn't it be easier to play the campaign on easy rather than normal? Or does easy disable the achievement or something?
Can you know if you accidentally killed an Engineer, but if you do, do you have to restart it again?

Yep.

I'm not 100% sure whether or not playing the campaign on easy prevents you from getting certain achievements. It would suck it if did, which is why I suggested playing on normal. Not much difference compared to easy difficulty, and you can definitely get the achievement.

I really don't know. I was super mega careful not to kill any Engineers. In fact, I rushed from one flashback location to the next and went out of my way to avoid patrols, especially ones with Engineers. I either hid until they were gone, ran past them and hoped I survived, or took another route. I mean, you can't kill an Engineer by accident if you simply run away from them. :)

I mean, if you

I mean, if you----ended midsentence, just saying. I guess I'm pretty sure I know everything now. Thanks! I have to return ODST to my friend soon, so yeah. How long do you think the achievement will take to achieve?

Hey I think you can still get the achievement when you play on easy. And I'm pretty sure I can get that other achievement too while I'm playing. It was like that one that required you to play a level with at least one skull on.

Yeah, I failed at editing my post while writing it. But don't worry, that's actually a surplus "I mean, if you". I started that sentence twice but finished it only once. ^^

Anyway, if you can play the campaign on easy and still get the achievements, go for it. No need to make it harder than it has to be. :)

Ah, thanks Gangster No1, you're awesome.

I aim to please.

Got the achievement today. It was pretty easy, as I usually don't like killing Engineers, but still it's hard to not kill them as sometimes they're so close to the other Covenant.
Easy difficulty works, and it doesn't matter if you exit the game and come back to it. And you only play up until the start of Data Hive. If you did it right, and save and exit from Data Hive you should get the achievement.

Once again, thanks!

just go through the campain again if u see any enginiers ignore them and just dont get spotted

  • 06.03.2011 5:13 PM PDT

hey man would you be able to do this on easy, I just want to do it quick and sweet.

  • 06.04.2011 4:48 AM PDT

Yes, you can do it on easy. It's the easiest difficulty to get the achievement. It doesn't matter what difficulty you work towards your achievement though. Just remember not to kill any Engineers. The achievement will take about two hours, just hide from enemies if you can and whiz through the game. Ignore the Covenant if they're not stalking you. Don't kill any Covenant if you don't have to, because I almost accidently killed an Engineer. And you're not supposed to kill any Engineers at all. If you need any more help, ask me.

Nope, I think BA83R is actually being honest.

Anyway, I'm rather surprised that you can get that achievement on easy. Most of the achievements in H3, ODST and Reach can only be acquired on normal difficulty or higher. In any case, well done. And no, I'm not being sarcastic. :)

yeh, same here, although i already have the achievment

  • 06.05.2011 11:33 PM PDT

Let's keep this thread up for people who want the achievement but don't have much of an idea how to get it. I hope this will help them.

Anyways, how come the description of the "Good Samaritan" changes after you unlock it?
At first it says something like Killing things that are new and different is bad, alone or with another ODST.

After I unlocked it, it read something like Not killed any Engineers throughout the entire campaign.

I guess Bungie wanted us to think a little bit. What else is new and different in ODST compared to H3? Only the Engineers spring to mind. And once you unlocked the achievement, there's no need anymore to keep mysterious about it, so it plainly said "killed not any Engineers". At least that's my take on it.

Exitus Acta Probat

You do all the missions where you are exploring as the rookie, without killing any engineers and tada, coolest avatar suit
