well, I get that, but lulling (no not lolling) in the first year of a new title? I know there's "some" who were unhappy with Reach, but I don't think that should account for a loss to Bnet (though I'm sure there are some who are no longer active on Bnet because of a dislike, for whatever reason, of Reach). If memory serves the community didn't really slump until like the end of the 2nd year of H3....?
You bring up a good point but there are a couple factors at play here. First of all, with the switch over to 343, I'm sure some of the Halo related activity has already started to shift over to their forums. Secondly, 2011 is a very different place for video games. This Call of Duty-era of coming out with a new game every single year has greatly shortened the attention span of gamers today as compared to years past. Look how long people played/talked about Halo and Halo 2 compared to ODST and Reach. In the "140 characters or less" world we live in now, it's all about what's new and what's next.
It's really a shame.
I feel as if Reach has been overlooked a bit, and it saddens me. However, the wisdom of your last sentence has stricken me. "In the '140 characters or less' world we live in now, it's all about what's new and what's next." I know not if you made that up on your own, but it is completely true. It's becoming less and less common to hear nothing about a new game in a series for a few years, only to be brought to (literal, for me in the case of Halo 3) tears because a new game in your most beloved series has been announced.
Now, it's down to "Okay, we just finished this game. Expect the sequel in a year or so. We'll iron out the kinks." and that really saddens me. Never again will I have a time like I did in between Halo 2 and Halo 3. Nearly 3 years of time in between to simply enjoy the game that I had. Now, it's "Welcome to Black Ops! Be sure to Pre-Order the next game in the series, due November of next year!"
I'm on a tangent. I should stop. Sorry for getting quite a bit off topic there.
