Subject: What happens if you get hit by a Halo array?

I started up the heated debate on whether the SPARTAN-II in the cryo tube near the end of Reach is really Linda.
I created the Moa XING avatar pic.
Also I earned the All Star nameplate with this submission to Week 14 All Stars http://www.bungie.net/images/News/Inline11/bwu_0415/art/likea boss.jpg

I had a dream last night that the Halo rings were about to fire, so everybody was scared and sad, I was too. We were told that it wouldn't be painful, you just start loosing control of several parts of your body. You first go numb and loose balance. Eventually you end up loosing all control except for breathing and you fall into a coma and die.
But after a while I woke up to find myself alive, along with several other hundred other people. Rioting soon followed.

Anyway this dream made me think, what exactly happens to an individual if they were to get hit by the array? Do they just drop dead like somebody unplugged them from the matrix? Or do their heads explode?

I've always imagined that you would basicually get instantly vaporized.

Yeah, I've imagined just vaporized like it was portrayed to the Flood, yet that didn't make sense, since they are immune to it.

You don't get vaporized. In the terminals Offensive Bias is fighting Mendicant Bias's fleet when the Array fires. Offensive's fleet had living Forerunners in the ships. And when the Array fires, Offensive describes their lifeless bodies drifting into space.

the array "kills all life" So its likely it shuts down ur body. Not sure how a weapon to that magnitude could even work. Maybe the pulse is overwhelming for the body to handle, and you just lose conscience and die.

If it hit you directly at point blank, you'd prolly be vaporized. but how you'd get hit point blank is the question.

I mean, you just floating there, in space, in the center of the ring? got nothing better to do but wonder what happens if the rings pulse hits ur ass directly as you float there and wait?

When activated, the Halo rings would wipe out all sentient life within three radii of the Milky Way's center by sending a burst of cross-phased supermassive neutrinos. This burst of super-massive neutrinos is carefully tuned to possess a harmonic frequency, which destroys the nervous system of any macroscopic organism that possesses one, even one as rudimentary as a notochord, as shown in the aftermath of a low-powered test firing of a Halo performed by the Master Builder on the San 'Shyuum world of Faun Hakkor.
This pulse is propelled across the Halo Array's full radius at superluminal speeds, covering that area and cleansing it of all affected life, though simpler life forms that do not possess a neural system, such as microbes, fungi, algae, mosses, and traditional plants are unaffected.

I read Cryptum. But if I were to watch an individual who just go hit by the Array, what would happen to them?

We don't know right now.
Do this some other time or change the name/descirption of the thread. I shall edit this if I am wrong.

Honor est praemium virtutis.

You would get a real nasty bruise.

In all seriousness though, I figure you'd just get vaporized or disintergrated or some other form of cellular obliteration.

They'd probably just drop down dead, or they would scream in agony as their nervous system was destroyed. It depends how fast the pulse works. Probably instantaneously. They'd just drop dead.

it's actualy some kind of neural attack - so your brain is like fried with radiation or some stuff like that. or your nervous system is knocked out

I laugh at your pitifall attempts to defeat me!

I think it would be interesting to get a Halo short, that follows the final moments of someone/thing, on that fateful day in which the Halo Array is activated.

Well, the only logical why I can see it is complete vaporization of complex, multi-cellular organisms. It has been established dead bodies can still feed the Flood biomass, so just killing everyone would make the Flood's work easier.

And even then, should the body not be vaporized, it isn't hard to believe that the organic tissues could be absorbed into the Flood biomass anyway.

But assuming that the above wouldn't work, then that would imply the way Halo kills you is more "efficient," so to speak. Implying that whatever it does to its victims negates the sentience somehow, perhaps obliterating the person's consciousness somehow. It could help explain just what the Precursor's made their stuff out of that only Halo can do any damage to it.

ha, for a second I though you meant physically hit by one, which would SUCK!

We are all going to get banned aren't we?

You are vaporized, it is the only way to stop the body from being used by the flood whatsoever.

  • 06.04.2011 11:26 AM PDT

hold on a second though, that can't be right, since it only does 'whatever' it does to things with sufficient biomass to sustain the Flood. that suggests something more 'technical' than simple destroying something, isn't it supposed to have something to do with the nervous system?

we aren't sure exactly.

"This burst of super-massive neutrinos is carefully tuned to possess a harmonic frequency, which destroys the nervous system of any macroscopic organism that possesses one, even one as rudimentary as a notochord,"

From halopedian from halo cryptum

We have that and we also know that it fires radium same as the fuel rod.
