I have a question. How do slipspace drives function? I hear it involves the use of particle accelerators to rip an worm-hole that leads to a separate dimension, allowing for quicker travel but I am not sure if this is true. Is it?

Like most Sci-Fi the nitty-gritty details of how Halo's Slipspace drives work is never really explained, but you seem to have it.

What I want to know is whether once the ship is in Slipspace, is the drive in constant use, or is it simply required to open and close the door to our dimension?

It makes a micro black hole that quickly disipates using hawkings radiation. That black hole allows them to squeeze them into slip space.
Something like that, just basing this off memory.
