Jeff = Geoff = Cruder Raptor

What are you doing HAYA?

Jeff is alive though.
Didnt even think about that.

Hold it right there.

Hello. Name's Brian. Look, if you're looking for a flame war with me, just open up the Flood and write up some not-nice things about religion and I'll bring my nukes to the party.

If you want some other way to contact me, you can forget it.

If you're interested in some of my work, you can check my homepage out.

I say he's alive because radio transmission with no replies usually mean they're in the can taking a nice dump.

Brison stood staring at the spot where the Hornet had just been. He was horrified. Jeff was dead, and one of the evac birds was down.

Team heavy weapons expert Stefan brought Brison back to his senses. "Get onto the Hornet or you're going to get left behind."

But it was too late, the Hornet pilots were already scrambling to get away from the Wraith. Brison was still on the ground, however he would not be alone. In their haste, the pilots had left no time for the passengers to hook on, and all were knocked off.

Brison, still on the ground, dived to the right behind a divider just as the turret on the Wraith put some plasma down range. He studied his surroundings and saw Stefan next to him. "How much explosive ammo you got, Minotaur?" Brison asked. Minotaur was Stefan's nickname.

"I got a few regular frags, and a few nades for the launcher," he replied.

"Okay, flank right and get to the side of the Wraith. We'll draw its fire and when its back's turned, take it out."

"Affirmative." Stefan started sprinting to the right. Meanwhile, Brison scanned for the other two members of his team. To his left, he saw the marine and the team scout Leroy.

"Move left, draw the Wraith's fire. Leap frog from cover to cover," Brison ordered.

The marine and Leroy nodded their heads in acknowledgement and then began taking turns running from cover to cover. The Wratih gunner kept firing whenever they appeared, but the plasma was not quick enough. The Wraith's main cannon was trained at the sky keeping the Hornets at bay. With the loss of one of their planes, the pilots were not taking any risks.

Eventually the Wraith was facing the 3 soldiers, its rear turned to Stefan. As soon as he saw it, Minotaur took use of the opportunity. He EMP'd it, then ran full speed towards the rear. He figured if he could pop a grenade into the small spot where the engine laid, the Wraith would blow. He jumped on the back just as the Wraith became mobile and turned to see were the EMP had come from. When the driver saw no one, it turned its attention back to the main group.

Stefan loosened a grenade, then stuck it in. He then jumped off and ran the fastest he had ever in his life. One second the Wraith was firing hot plasma, the next it blew up and was inoperable. The Hornets came in and loosed a few round just to make sure it was disabled. They then landed and took off again. When they cleared the roof tops, Brison looked for the dead body of Jeff, but it was not seen.

Back at Diligence, they were preparing to get the civilians out of the area. The squads were keeping any infantry from straying to close, and no aircraft were entering the area. "What's the ETA till Delta is here?" Wade asked over the command net.

"2 minutes," Replied one of the pilots.

"Sir, Covenant are falling back. You got a window to take off," a solider from Alpha reported over the radio.

When do the Covenant ever retreat? Yes, we've kept them back, but normally they would just keep assaulting. What could they be doing? This question kept him pondering for a few minutes.

"Delta has arrived," a pilot brought Wade's mind back to the current situation.

"Tell them to get inside ASAP."

Suddenly Hera came on the intercom. "Slip-space rupture detected."

Oh hell, Wade thought. Talon was thinking the same and was one step ahead in the bridge. He already had the bay door closing and engines fired up. In under half a minute they would be airborne.

"Radiation flare," reported Hera.

Diligence began to lift off, slowly. It was a few extremely long seconds. But then they were airborne, and just in time. The ship that had come over, a Covenant battleship, begun glassing the area just as Diligence escaped. In the room set aside as a command station Delta Team walked in. They saluted their superior.

"Good work, soldiers," Wade remarked, "You did well."

Brison nodded, but didn't say anything. Yes, we've saved a few hundred civilians, but not without sacrifice, Brison thought, but he didn't say it out loud. He had lost a solider and in his eyes, he had failed.

Not without sacrifice indeed.

Easy suggestion for me to make- Spell check. I noticed a few spelling errors while reading through, and spelling correctly is a big way to make your story better.

:)
