Please read this entire post (or at least skim through it) before replying. It took me a while to type it, so I'd appreciate it.

I kind of hope they don't [remake Halo CE]. As much as I love Halo CE, I want 343 to show their own creativity instead of hiding it and giving the community something they have experienced already. I want to know where they are going with the series. Not to be remind of where it came from. I wouldn't even mind if the CE remake is their second major Halo project, I just don't want it to be their first.
I agree. However, Saber Interactive may actually be the ones taking on the project. You may be thinking, "Who the -blam!- is that?" Well, I can't answer that question myself! What I can tell you is that I trust them a lot less with it than 343, which consists of about 10% former Halo workers.
The really interesting part is, whichever company remakes CE will decide which game is made. If 343 winds up with it or not, either way, the new Halo will not be their main project. If they do get stuck with the remake, it becomes their main project, and if not, they're supposed to work on the multiplayer maps for the new one before anything else, and wait and see how the remake turns out. If it fails, they plan to abort the new Halo and transfer the maps to a new sci-fi shooter title as a contingency plan.
So far, the CE remake is not set to have any form of public Matchmaking, only online CGs. The graphics are not currently set to be revamped, however the game itself is to be partially reengineered; there will be no new weapons or enemies, but the engine will be patched, and several glitches to be removed, such as the Touch of Death and the Infi-Bounce glitches (see below post). The PC weapons will not be put in, however the Energy Sword and Wraith will become useable, and doing the same to the Fuel Rod Cannon or not has yet to be decided. You will be able to trade weapons with Marine and Navy personnel. Jacking vehicles may or may not be in the game
You see, this CE remake is designed in part to test the market's responsiveness to a new developer. They're trying to ease everyone into the idea of losing Bungie: remake a game everyone already loves, attempt to make it better. If the market does responds well and continues to do so for several months, Halo lives on. If not, then we can either stick with Reach and Halo 3, or switch over to Battlefield or CoD, because if the support for Halo fails, Halo is out.
This is every little bit of information I have on Halo's future right now. Whether it be from a little leak I discovered that was shortly thereafter plugged, or word from mutlipe sources with the same information, that's it. Just remember: some this information could change. Don't shoot the messenger if the message is a bit out of date.
If you want my opinion, Halo has a 50-50 shot at surviving under a new developer's wing. If it succeeds, then good. I do not believe Bungie's next game will be nearly as big a hit as Halo, so if Halo doesn't survive, Bungie will have to choose between being just another medium-timer trying to live up to the glory of one of their series, or crawling back to Halo and trying to rebuild it. Whether Halo survives or not, it's been a fun ride.
The Touch of Death is the glitch (which wasn't considered such at first) that causes instant death upon contact with a vehicle in any motion.
Infi-Bounce is the glitch that occasionally causes weapons to slide down sloped surfaces or be fused into some others by phasing just enough into said surface to bounce off it in both directions, in and out. Don't say it. Anyway, the only ways to end the noisy torture are to either wait for the weapon to slide to a corner and bounce out of the surface, or to rescue it via grenade.
