You really just need a better video card but you may need a new computer also if it's that old. A monitor really has nothing to do with how good a game looks except for the resolution.

If the monitor is yellowish then you probably need a new one. lol.

Well, what are your pc's specs? That'll determine if you should get a new pc or not - no use investing money for upgrades on an old pc.

Unless he is using the one that came with the Commodore 64.

Ok, for real now... post your pc specs and we'll be able to give you an answer.

If you don't know how to find out the specs, do the following:

Right click on "My Computer" and choose "Properties".
In the "General" tab, write down what it says at the bottom under "Computer"
Then, go to the "Hardware" tab and click on "Device Manager". You should see a big list of all kinds of devices. FInd the one that says "Video Adapter" (or "Graphics Adapter", don't know the exact English description). Click on the + sign and write down the name of the device that is shown there.

Post the info you wrote down in this thread.

Nope, just change the in-monitor settings. There is usually a menu button at the bottom of your monitor, change the color a bit, see if that works.

well, actually, if you have a REALLY crappy moniter (e.g. mine) its best to get a new one. and yes, the above moniter was free.

I have a 17" LCD monitor. I took the LCD off of the base and mounted it onto the side of my PC case. I've got a LANParty carrying case wrapped around my PC, so all I have to do is literally pick up the PC and go; it's pretty cool.

Hardmounting it on my case was a bit tricky though...

I think that Fatso might possibly have meant the plastic casing of the monitor. Older monitors were routinely encapsuled in yellow plastic. Nasty stuff, really.

See that Intel there? That's why you have problems. You need a better graphics card indeed.

Sorry buddy, there is nothing we can do about it.

Yep. I read on the Intel site that none of their graphics card supports some of the things needed to run Halo at maximum graphical capacity. My computer has the same kind of card so im saving up for a Nvidia Geforce FX 5500 256MB.

My stats:
AMD athlon xp 2800+-cost me 80 dollars(paid my friend 90 because he let me pay him later)-so don't dis me, and it came with the motherboard
which is an NF7-S
X800XT all in wonder GPU-300 dollars If I remember
512 MB RAM-40 dollars
120 MB HDD-free (christmas present) It was external but I took it apart and put it in my computer
integrated sound : (
Monitor-free 1600x1200 (friend's dad's work got rid of computer stuff, they were throwing away the best monitor I have ever owned)
wireless KB and mouse-30 dollars (works great, too)
CD-RW was from my brothers old comp-free (only 12x, but I never use it anyways and it works well enough when I do)
5.1 speakers (x530 from logitech)-30 dollars on newegg with thanksgiving discount that I recieved from newegg because I bought a 300 dollar graphics card.
DVD rom from old comp-free
PSU from friend 50 dollars (worth 70, he got the wrong one and wanted to get rid of it...)
Case from the same friend-10 dollars (really old, but I spraypainted it, looks like It cost 50 dollars, you can see your reflection in it (used special paint that bonds to plastic-looks nice, if you have a crap case, try painting it, I painted the drives, too)).
Black glossy spraypaint- two dollars

Total 552 dollars-give or take 10

It plays Halo on full settings, 1600x1200-no lag, period.

The above was written to try to own someone else... not you. The only difference is the graphics card and RAM. It cost me next to nothing for my computer and it runs games at great settings. I'm sorry for gramatical errors. Anyway, I reccomend an ATI card x700 or above, or an nVidia GeForce 6800. You don't need to spend a fourtune on your computer-just your graphics card.

Oh, and...

You won't need a new computer or monitor. You need a new graphics card. Get something nifty like 256 or 512 for good performance.

Get Marathon Here
Get Marathon 2 and Infinity Here

I got me a BFG GeForce FX 5500 OC for $23 bucks, 256 MB, AGP slot.

but my RAM and processor, and computer, suck so it basically doesn't do much of anything in terms of uberfying my gaming.

no, thats the mistake everyone makes. Dont judge the cards preformance by the amount of memory on it. You need to look at the core, and mem speeds. Those 2 determine how it will preform more than just memory. If they made a 64 mb version of the 7800GTX, and a 512mb version of the fx5500, the 7800 would still destroy the 5500. The architecture is far superior, and the speeds are like 10x faster.

If you want to be able to play halo with a resolution of 1280x1024 and high settings your looking to spend around $150. Check out hte nvidia geforce 6600GT cards. You have to determine which interface you have first, so dont go buying one now.

edit - One more point, theres really no sense in buying anything lower than a 6600GT because everything else will just be terrible. You wont see much of a preformance increase at all, and the 6600 is starting to be phased out also.

For Carnage, Apply Within.

I have returned from the Untamed Lands. MOAP is dead.

I've been looking to buying a graphics card too, but don't know which one.

If your going to get a new video card I would reccommend spending no less than $150, and thats a minimum. If it were me, I wouldnt get anything less than a 6800GT or x850 pro (which both cost around 200-270)

You can get the nvidia 6600GT which is a decent card and can run halo on 1280x1024 res nicely. Nothing less than that in my opinion, because it wont be much better than what you have now.
