On Halo Waypoint they have an exclusive look at the new Halo Anniversary game that goes further than the trailer at the press conference in both as a video and as screenshots. If you look carefully some characters have jet packs (Damnation 6 screenshot in Halo: Anniversary Gallery) and during one assasination (near the end of the exclusive video) it looks like one of the characters had a DMR on his back. AA, DMR bloom, bad maps (compared to Halo 2 and 3), and the dull look of forge world maps taking away from the asthetics of the environments are a few of the examples that make Reach not as good as the previously games.
Every Halo game that is released adds more polish and depth to the previous game, and Reach is no different, but unfortunately they also take away some of the things that made the previous games great.
We'll see what the result looks like at PAX. To view it on way point select Halo Anniversary Exclusive, not the trailer, and the gallery has 12 images.
What would make the remake perfect is:
- Untouched campaign aside from updated visuals. This looks like it will happen.
- Halo 3's character movement speed in multiplayer. No more sprint AA and gives us the ability to meaningfully strafe.
- Halo Reach's less floaty jump feeling (but not player movement speed).
- Halo Reach's visual feedback when you shoot someome (e.g. character models react to each shot as they hit them, audio feedback when nades hit players, etc).
- Halo 2's ranking system (using icons for upper levels rather than just a number).
- Halo 2/3's 1 to 50 ranking system (won't touch how many ways Arena fails).
- The best of Halo 2/3 maps as DLC (sadly Reach's maps don't hold a candle to Halo 2/3).
- More maps per-DLC, even if it is just a 4th that acts as a new and empty sandbox for forge.
- More forge spaces in DLC with completely different looks and feels.
- No more forge world. Ask yourself how many forge world levels have a frame-rate drop if you look in certain directions? For example looking at the lift on Lockdown in Team Classic from snipe 3. Looking across map on Synaspe towards the rockets?
- No more nuke nades.
- Ability to customize damage amounts for each weapon rather than a global for all weapons (so increasing one doesn't break others).
- Bloom increase/decrease option if bloom as we know it is a permanate addition to Halo.
- Forge and theater can be considered standard for Halo at this point.
- Co-op parties in theater (Halo 3 style).
- Halo 3's restriction on rank/level. For example in order to have a general you must have a 50.
- A ranked MLG game type (levels 1 to 50).
- Battle riffle for multiplayer. If the developers don't want to use it in their game variants then OK but include it for people making forge maps would be nice.
- Conv sniper.
- MLG's sense of balance to weapon positions and timings, spawn locations, and power-ups.
I'm sure there are more I could add. What would you like to see in the new Halo CE remake?
