Subject: Whoa wait... why is everything in CE UNSC Army now?

After watching the new CE footage, I noticed that all the UNSC Marines from the original Halo are now UNSC Army troopers from Halo:Reach. What?? And the weapons as well, such as the MA5B and M6D are gone, replaced by the MA37 and M6G. Why was this done? I though the game was made with increased graphics, not just replacing models. I can't wait for the hopefully good gameplay, but I am dissappointed that the canon now is practically destroyed, especially after the hit it took in Halo:Reach with the conflicts with Fall of Reach.

Signatures are for squares.

It's just the visuals...because it's built off the Halo Reach engine. Like how ODST was built off the Halo 3 engine.

  • 06.06.2011 12:41 PM PDT

M6G was in halo 3.

Also, it appears to be Marines, not army troopers.

If you remember, a chunk of the marines in Halo CE were lacking their full armor, and the best glimpse I got was of a pants leg.

The PoA was just at the battle of Reach, most of the its soldiers would naturally have Reach armor. And the MA5B is still there didn't notice the 60 round clip?

I paused a front shot of it and got a good look. Their UNSC Army troopers. And yes the Assault rifle does have 60 rounds, however its the model of an MA37 from Reach.

As it turns out the trooper model in Reach aren't entirely army troopers. The live troopers you encounter in the bone yard section of the Pillar of Autumn level are addressed as Marines if you manage to keep the squad alive long enough for Emile to engage in dialogue with the first group.

The UNSC Marines in Reach have drastically different armor from their Army counterparts ( Such as the helmet ).

Hey, Listen Sucka! Listen Jack! You ain't nothin' but a piece a cheese without the corners! In other words you ain't neva gonna be a slice, bieatch!

I know right? I can't believe I read all the books multiple times, only to find out that Halo:Reach was nothing at all like my book, "The Fall of Reach." How disappointing, Y'know, "The Seraphim" and anyone else reading this, I'm not sure if anybody else said it, but I don't care I'm Masterr_Chieff, but! Did anybody else notice in the Halo:CE:A, that the multiplayer shots, the players looked like Spartan-III(3)'s not II(2)'s, and I saw an armor ability module on the back of one ( sprint), maybe they'll move the release date to sooner considering the foundation for Halo:CE is layed and they're just filling it with Reach stuff, but then again the models shown could just be placeholders.

I am trying to point out that the models in the new CE should be the Marines in Reach, not the Army troopers.

Well then like caboose said, its just visuals. They have a couple months before release and I'm sure 343i will go to further lengths to fix any canonical errors.

Except the canon with models in ODST were correct...

I'm trying to point out that the Marines in Reach uses the sealed suit and the open helmet variant of army that all of us normally associate with army at a glance. So they wouldn't be wrong in using that model for the Marines.

I am alpha, i am omega.

I am the last of the primes.

Well yes, the army does use the navy to get around.

How else do army tropers get from planet to planet?

There will always be some army on unsc ships...

Is everybody here f**king retarded?

Halo Reach armour is a visual upgrade of that of previous games. The marines BEFORE Reach always had open helmets, therefore Marines on Halo using CE camo and open helmets does not equal them being army.

Army and Marines use most of the same equipment.

  • 06.06.2011 2:05 PM PDT

A lot of the models are probably placeholder. At least, I'm hoping they are...

No, they don't actually. Their weapons, armor, vehicles and even Naval support are drastically different. I understand why 343 simply copied mechanics of Reach, they wanted to get this thing out before the end of the year. I'm just dissapointed they couldn't of increased the graphics of the normal CE, not borrow the Reach engine.

Some, not the entire crew and complement.

Not true, its the MULTIPLAYER that has reach engine. The Halo HD campaign will have the good old halo 1 engine, with a huge graphics overhaul. (and maybe a physics overhaul)

Its not built off the Reach engine. The campaign isn't anyway. The campaign is based off of the Halo CE engine. Frank O'Connor stated in an interview with Geoff Keighly right after the MS press conference that it's just a re-skinned campaign.

In fact, you can even switch from "classic mode" (original graphics) to "Anniversary mode" (new graphics).

But I agree with OP. They should have done more work to make new models instead of just importing the Reach models. That made me mad too.

The three large red x's in a room your about to enter mean run away, fast.

The single player scenes looked like they used the Halo Reach engine too.

MA5B and MA37

clearly not the same.

The helmet's are irrelavent. The main thing that can tell Marines apart from Army troops is their boots. Whether or not their pants are tucked into them. Marines tuck their BDU's into their boots while army does not, letting them go down over their boots. They also have different camo. The marines in Halo 1, 2, and 3 all had olive drab armor while the army troops from reach had an almost gray look.

While the reasons you stated doesn't make them army, the fact that they are exact copies of Reach models does.
