Subject: I am not a fan of John's new armor.

If you're passionate about the thing you're talking about, I'll always lend an ear.

Haha, so he can appeal to the more older generation of the audience.

i personally like the new look of Chief, i think it shows the symbolic change of the two developers of the games
Bungie had that traditional spartan look that stuck with the storyline really well, and 343 has a completely new look for the main character, i think this is going to be a great game to the series and i hope that 343 does a good job on their maiden launch

Personally, I dont like that they changed the helmet, it was symbolic for me, and now its just not the same. However, the rest of the armour looks really awesome and I think its a pretty cool change.

I'm a fan!

Don't worry, you're still your mom's favorite Bnet member.

I don't think this trailer was a fair representation of Halo 4's actual graphics. Remember what Halo 2 looked like during it's reveal?

I agree on that.

That looks freaking badass.

My Grandfather was a Desert Ranger, my Father was a Veteran Ranger in the NCR. My father was killed by Caesar's Legion and they took my Brother. It's now my responsibility to uphold the mantle of the Rangers and avenge my Father and find my Brother.

It looks like Rouge armor. I want the OLD ARMOR!

Canonically, he hasn't had time or the means to switch.

They probably reused the blockier early CGI from Halo: Legends The Package for the prerendered trailer. I see a similarity in their design.

Are you kidding!? That picture looks badass! Although it should be the exact same as Halo 3 if they were following the story...

it is the freakin same! look at the shot burns on his chest. it just better graphics

Canonically? I thought it wasn't really explained if he has been drifting for years or months.

  • 06.06.2011 4:43 PM PDT

Fugly.

It doesn't look serious any more. Before it looked like...well, it looked like advanced, military power armor. It looked right.

Now it looks dumb.

I'm struggling to think of something to put here...

Why is everybody complaining about his armor changing in the cryopod, if I'm not mistaken didn't the same thing happen at the end of H2 to the beginning of H3?

He's been drifting in a ship, with no atmosphere.

where would he get a new set of armor and change into it?

Halo 2 to 3 there was no major armor appearance changes.

They're 0G thrusters that are built into the suit... NOT jetpacks.
Posted by: Br1gadierGeneraI
I liked it up until I saw the jetpack... god, do NOT bring back AA's like they are in Reach >_>
I may have completely missed this in a novel or the encyclopedia, but where does it say MK VI armor has 0G thrusters?

Blam you and Blam your "Canon Armor". My new armor in Halo 4, is an abortion but only that is my personal opinion , and who says thats the way it should of looked like the whole time?! So what for every Halo game with the Master Chief in it, prior to Halo 4, BUNGIE, which back then included Joseph Staten or whatever and Frankie, a your precious canon keepers were all in on in making decided "Hey, the armor we've shown for years and years and have designed tons and tons of little actions figures and thousands on merchandise and what-not is all wrong, and we're changing it." Screw that

I don't think it has been announced that it is necessarily new. Due to limitations or necessity the fact that he had a set of thrusters could've been not utilized in Halo 3, etc. The suits, IIRC, were designed for space combat in mind. That means he could've had thrusters from the very get-go. Just due to limitations or lack of forethought they weren't "built" into the suit in the games as a technical issue.

I think in cannon he has always had them. They just never existed in the games because they were never needed. So the sudden "addition" of thrusters isn't really an addition. Its something he has always had we aren't familiar seeing because the other games failed or neglected the fact that he had them.

That is how I rationalize it. I don't think the suit is new. It just appears "new," but really is the same ol' suit just "updated" to show all of its capabilities. Of course, this is a CGI trailer and I wouldn't place all of my bets on this being exactly the same in H4.

That's a bit too direct.
The way they handled the armour change not a very great idea. I mean how did he suddenly get jet packs and a new spanking suit design when he was in a cryo-pod?

But regardless of that, I'm not a big fan of the new design either. I liked the H2 design the best. But it may grow on me...

It was intended to be a smartass remark.

You guys really shouldn't be criticizing a CGI trailer so harshly, what until we see an actual trailer or the first cutscene before raging.

Logic>emotion

Exactly.
Just because he got his THRUSTERS and woke up in that manner does not mean it will happen that way in the game. Its a teaser. Teasers usually are just to show off whats new.

OT: It looks great.

Neither Mk IV nor Mk V had integrated thrusters built in. The text in The Fall of Reach make it clear it's an individual unit as John tells his fellow Spartans to strap on thruster packs prior to assaulting the Covie ship near Chi Ceti (Mk IV) while James was noted to struggle with his thruster pack's harness after things hit the fan for him (Mk V). The Encyclopedia and Frank O Conner's run down of Mk VI armor in the Halo 3 launch info laden EGM list all of the Mk VI's features. Neither of which include integrated thruster systems as part of the armor's features.

The more likely explanation is that it's upgraded in progress armor that the Chief will attain at some point in the new game that is subject to change (a la bubble shield grenade from Starry Night) unless 343i wants to go the full recton route in the case of the Mk VI's thruster capabilities from the get go.

343 dosent do good jobs on armor...

The Halo 4 MJLONIR and the Halo CE remake MJLONIR are disgustingly ugly compared to their counterparts.
