Subject: Halo 4 Jet Pack Complaint

After watching the Halo 4 trailer I had seen Master Chief using a Jet pack. As the past Halos such as Halo:Combat Evolved, Halo 2, and Halo 3 were complete successes. But for Halo Reach in my opinion hasn't lived up the Halo franchise. I have been a Halo fan for as long as I can remember. I sure hope the qualities of Halo Reach are not implemented into Halo 4. I saw that Bungie has integrated sprint, jet packs, cloak, armor lock, and even holograms. I know they had done this because of the upcoming game Call of Duty Black Ops. It was going to be a tough game to beat. I'm not to sure on whether the Halo Reach "perks" were designed at the last second but I surely did not like them one bit. Honestly they took away the original and complete feel of Halo. In my opinion I just hope that Bungie will listen to their Halo Community and not add these so called "perks" to Halo 4. MLG tournaments have been mostly hosted on Halo games because of their unique game style that actually requires skill to play. Unlike Call of Duty there are perks that can enhance the game. Master Chief was always a bad a** and will never ever need perks to make him that much more beast or better. He is a spartan and will remain as one. I hope that Master Chief will not be turned into a Call of Duty Hero. That is all I got to say and Good Luck Bungie with Halo 4! I'll be waiting :)

actually, Bungie isn't making halo 4 (or any other halo games from now on). the AAs in reach actually add some strategy and new gameplay, because they aren't earned like perks in CoD, they are all available to everyone.

Correct

I agree completely with the statement I hated the perks they slowed gameplay and made players not need to have a level of skill. Looking at the reveal trailer yes they are Grav thrusters but this does not rule out the possibility that perks might be in halo 4 , so personally I would like some conformation that yes it will or will not have them

Proof of them actually being implemented is stated...where exactly?

The only thing in canon that suggests that Mk VI armor could have thrusters installed is in Halsey's journal. Even then, it's part of a list of potentially upgrades to be added to the Mk VI. Among them listed being things like Covenant based anti-gravity tech and "advanced EVA" tech. Of those two things it's wholly apparent that the Mk VI does not posses Covenant based anti-gravity technology to supplement the armor nor UNSC developed gravity weapon tech for vehicles or weapons. Meanwhile the advanced EVA tech entry is vague enough that it can easily be referring to more advanced supplementary armor to enhance EVA ops such as the EVA related armor permutations or more advanced external T-packs.

Long story short, while the basis exists for an easy recton to place internal thrusters on the Mk VI at the start of Halo 4 or later on for story reasons down the line within it, there is nothing in canon as it stands to decisively show that the Mk VI armor line has "always" possessed internal thrusters. So please (for those saying it's "always" had them or that "all" Mk VI have them standard) state where you've seen it established that it was the case prior to the appearance of a teaser trailer which has no real weight on canon due to the nature of imminent change that comes with it.

Epic Pic

Sup everyone, I'm Josh~ I'm co-founder of Epic Pic, which used to be one of the largest and most successful screenshot group on Bungie.net.

Not a jetpack, thrusters.

  • 06.21.2011 4:24 PM PDT

Ok, OP, first of all, they're something built into the Mark VI armor and not an armor ability like in Reach, and secondly, they look to be something meant for a Zero G environment (like out in space) and would not be able to lift a Spartan off the ground in an atmosphere due to their lack of thrust and the weight of the Spartan. If it means anything for gameplay or bears any indication of gameplay features it would be hinting at the return of weightless environments from Reach (such as the outside areas of the Anchor 9 and Zealot maps) with the addition of the thruster pack to help direct movement in such a zone.
And thirdly, Bungie isn't making Halo 4, that would 343Industries, the in-company branch that Microsoft created for the sole purpose of overseeing Halo (you might say they're Bungie in everything but name, especially since Frank O'Connor, formerly of Bungie, is the head of 343i).

And on the subject of Armor Abilities, I will praise their return, they were a very enjoyable addition to the Halo series and their addition has created new ways to promote skill, teamwork, and encourage innovative strategies. And Black Ops had nothing at all to do with the implementation of AAs, whatever gave you that demented idea? MLG is merely another type of play style it does not take more or less skill to play than the way Bungie sets MM up, quite frankly if you ask me the idea of MLG's playstyle taking more skill than standard Matchmaking is nothing more than a bunch of elitist crap! They are completely different and one does not take more skill than the other, they require different types of skill to excel, this idea is not hard to grasp (or at least shouldn't be).

My conclusion is that you do not know a thing about what you are speaking of. Good day!

AAs slowed the game down far too much and make every kill circumstantial. And as for teamwork randoms rarely work together and they are the bulk of the community, not to mention armor lock is a solo gig.

Bring back halo 2 multiplayer.

Feh, your opinion, I think you're wrong, but it's your opinion.
I honestly don't get why people think that, as the gameplay is just as fast as it's always been.

Well I guess the games I've played then are oddities, because I've pulled off some great stuff with all randoms, and had the same pulled on me and my team by randoms. The AAs have added a lot of strategy, especially in Objective gametypes, such as Invasion. And in Slayer gametypes too.

Imagine a triangle. It's perfect, but a little plain. You take a chisel, and carve a small decorative symbol into it to make it a little more interesting. People like it, but it could use a little more.

So you then take a sledgehammer..

1. It's a thruster for Zero-G environments, not a jetpack.

2. I agree, AAs shouldn't return.

3. Although I agree with you, why do you think AAs were incorporated because of Black Ops?

Explain this please, as I find the gameplay MUCH more slower than CE and 2.

Well they may be a little right about CE (kill times were too quick in that if you ask me), haven't played too much of Halo 2, but I haven't seen any noticable difference in gameplay speed or kill times. And I definitely haven't seen any differences whatsoever between Reach's speed and Halo 3's.

i dont think we have to worry about AAs coming back exept mabye sprint and jetpack (yes i know hes using thursters in the trailer) hes on half a frigate so there shouldnt be to many top secret prototype AAs that are so far only found on reach with him
