343 Is Canon friendly.

Bungie isn't.

I never understood this, in my eyes, shouldn't it be whatever the original creator says trumps everything else? I don't mean to start anything here but this always got me thinking.

Microsoft owns the IP rights to Halo. So, technically what they say goes.

Yes, I understand that but Bungie made Halo, so I believe that whatever they say *should* go. Oh well whatever, its not like they can do anything now.

I would prefer that. I'm sure, however, that 343 Industries is competent enough to understand and develop Halo games for a heavy Bungie-loving fanbase. Franky works there and that gives me confidence. I mean, can't we just consider 343i a huge studio made up of Halo Nerds? :)

Meh, they'll probably have some way to explain it. Maybe Cortana did a scan of the Forward Unto Dawn and found prototype Mark VII armor? Anything's possible.

Why would there be prototype Mark VII armor sitting in the forward unto dawn that wasn't given to chief for the battle of earth?

Bungie is not.

Fixed.

Fix'd again.

Anyway, it's just actual CGI trailer, don't worry about it! Armor will be different once we see in-game graphics trailer, :)

Well crap Ninja, we meet again.

I also think it may be a new weapon, or just the fact the thing was breaking apart. But if 343 doesn't explain it, then I will start to lose conciousness from the amount of stupid I fear will come.

  • 06.06.2011 5:17 PM PDT

question everything...truth has no pedigree

There are some different ways it could have happened. I hope you don't really believe they wouldn't change anything between games.

The Halo games themselves don't explain how you get from Halo to Earth between games 1 and 2. The announcement trailer picks up right where Halo 3 leaves off but there's no telling where the actual game itself is going to start. The Halo 3 TV spot started with Chief mysteriously without his helmet on, threw a bubble shield and then jumped into a Covenant armada. Yet somehow he was still in space on a flaming piece of metal. You can't make all these assumptions about the game itself. It's just an announcement trailer.

Cover of the new Fall of Reach I believe:

New Armour:

Do you guys see a certain similarity? Elbows, shoulders, abdomen area...

He doesn't look as bulky on the halo 4 website though.

I see recon shoulders from reach on the Halo 4 website.

Haha, yes. I've been pretty active on the forums lately.
Partly due to my hesitation to study for my exams.
:(

OT: I agree.

Damn, I love Halo fans. They get a teaser for a sequel to their favorite game series, and proceed to whine about the minuscule details.

I know right.
I love Halo as much as anyone, but jeez. Its a teaser trailer showing off the game. When it comes out it doesn't necessarily mean he's going to wake up in that exact armor or in that exact manner.

  • 06.06.2011 8:37 PM PDT

I'm just going to say that the Chief was venting air out of his suit.

Also: that grenade pistol looks awesome. I hope that 343 doesn't feel the need to over-explain the new weapons.

As anyone thought of the possibility that the Chief and Cortana were aboard another ship and got themselves into almost the exact same situation?

They could've been heading somewhere else and had to get aboard another ship for an extended period of time where John had to go back into Cyro after getting the Mark VII? Or, perhaps where he lands(landed) the first time he got an upgrade?

It might not even be Mk.VII, it could be a Mk.VI/Forerunner hybrid...

Really, no one needs to get too worked up about this trailer.

Remember the Halo 3 Announcement Trailer? Starry Night? Believe? Ads are just that; ads. They don't accurately portray the final product, they just want to create hype.

  • 06.06.2011 8:55 PM PDT

well it's an announcement trailer so they just try to make it as epic as possible.

The armor is pretty easily explained. when you upgrade the graphics things are going to look different. have you guys even seen reach? other than that looks the same to me.

new pistol? well he's on a huge frigate, It's not that surprising that there would be weapons we haven't seen. really there never is a great explanation for new weapons, but they have to put them in there.

the only thing that i see as a problem is the jet pack, but there probably will be an explanation.

Fall of 2012 is a long way away. There's no telling what we will find out by then and what will be changed. Besides, after Reach what does canon matter? ;)

Pretty much this... a lot of teaser/announcement trailers in the series did not depict final decisions, story elements, locations and designs. I'm very nit picky with my Halo canon as well.

It will probably change again. Holiday 2012 is a while away.

  • 06.06.2011 9:46 PM PDT

Wait when was Halo: Reach (the game) ever apart of Halo canon? I always ignored Reach as a major screw up on Bungie's last attempt to sell-out. Oh wait.. they did sell-out, and it wasn't canon, never mind. Carry on.
