I think that it is the entrance to the Onyx Shield World, where other spartans are.

People've been on that wave since Halo 3 speculation talk. It's still not going to happen (unless the inmates are running the asylum over in 343) because it's not going to make sense to anyone who hasn't read GoO.

It makes sense though... And they could give a background story for the opening of the game to catch people up...

2B || !2B - Why don't you look Inside the Machine?

To me it looks like a Dyson Sphere that the Forerunner could've built for any number of purposes.

Is it the source of the power for all Halos? The ark?

Is it a research facility? Could it be for studying the Flood?

Are there Flood housed there? Could something entirely worse be there?

Are there Forerunner hiding there?

So many questions could be asked. I think a Dyson Sphere makes the most sense because it'd be it's own mini-galatic ecosystem. Very interesting to think about.

You do know that shield worlds were built off the same principle right?

in halo they are one and the same, hence my post on the first page.

And all forerunner installations power themselves.

I didn't know that. I haven't kept up with Halo Cannon as closely as others have. So all of this is pretty new to me. I haven't read any of the books past the first 3. :(

It stared into the soul of every Halo fan out there.

understandable.

Shield worlds were offensive defensive network the didact built to stop the flood without causing too much damage. Though the concept was applied for other means also (such has the ship dock in halowars).

thus we truly don't know what purpose it could have, but seeing how the terminals are related and we know the forerunners relocated. We can assume that live forerunners are within the sphere and it might be used for living instead of a weapon.

That is definitely an interesting idea. If Forerunner exist within the Sphere there are two possibilities. The Forerunner have gone crazy and threaten the galaxy/universe. The Forerunner point John in the direction of something that is going to destroy the galaxy.

They did say "an ancient evil" will exist that threatens the galaxy. Definitely some exciting stuff.

Only issue is that MB specifically stated that he wanted to atone and he was to keep chief save by sending him to the forerunners. So that doesn't make sense, plus the forerunners aren't evil. They have made bad choices, but they are a good race in general they just wanted to stay number 1 and didn't want their way of life to be changed.

Well, if the Forerunner are nice then that definitely leaves it open to some very creative and awesome speculation. I CAN NOT WAIT. :)

I know, I'm on there now. Looks like I should pop some popcorn and prepare for an all-nighter reading this Wikipedia style. *opens 50 tabs*

I think you're right that MB sent the Chief directly to the Forerunner base (the entrance of which is the big glowy thing from the E3 teaser).

Then again, is it possible that MB (or part of him) traveled with the Chief and Cortana on the Dawn?

we thought about that at first but he stated " so here, at the end of my life" so that closed that idea.

Then it would definitely seem to be that the giant eyeball thing is the gate to the Forerunner camp. MB wouldn't knowingly send the Chief anywhere else right?

You gotta wonder how MB knows where the remaining Forerunner are. You'd think that location would be kept secret. It wouldn't make sense for them to leave a record that Gravemind or MB could use to find them. Maybe this is explained in the books or something.

Vengeance only leads to an ongoing cycle of hatred.

Dyson Sphere.

  • 06.06.2011 5:54 PM PDT

Its seems like a forerunner ship or planet of some kind that seems to be helping the chief and saving him from something thats attacking the ship. Maybe 343 guilty spark has come back to rescue the chief so he can send him on a suicide mission.

  • 06.06.2011 7:24 PM PDT

Or the forerunners believe chief is now worthy to be in there presence and could help them defeat the flood once and for all.

In any way possible could it be The Maginot Sphere? Or am I lost?

Either way, I'm thinking that there is something definitely on the inside that is very, very bad, or will lead us to discover something very, very bad.
