What I've liked about halo thus far is that it is strongly grounded in a military story. The spartans themselves, the entire UNSC are a military force, fighting against the military force of the covenant.

Now that all seems to be gone. All this crazy alien tech, all this talk of "destiny" and higher powers and stuff...it has gone fully sci-fi fantasy, and lost all its awesome military feel.

Hmmmmmmm

Sigh they need to release more details.

Thats what I like about Halo: Its all forms of Sci-fi rolled into one, epic, mouth watering package.

The military is still there, but they're just fleshing out the deeper, more fantasy stuff. That's not a crime, is it?

Yes I'm fairly young. No, that doesn't mean I'm automatically dumber than you or have less life experience, thats just generally the case. I am not your general case.

Not fantasy; no magic or gods or overlords. Similar, but not fantasy.

Its more like technological fantasy, so yeah, similar. The technology and how advanced it is is what makes it fantasy.

We haven't seen anything yet.

Also, "destiny" doesn't imply a higher power any more than Cortana talking about "Gods and Demons" and the Chief's luck. It could mean a lot of things. John 117 has been through a hell of a lot, and none of it has been for himself. I think that the 'verse has more in store for him than floating in stasis to never awake.

Cave Johnson here, we're done!

PS: If you are reading this comment while imagining my voice, don't panic. That's just a side effect of the testing.

Well it's one of the quirks about Science fiction, the fine line between fiction and fantasy. When it comes to halo's weapons it's not as fantasy based as one might think. The weapons that the covenant use are described as being under control of magnetic fields to manipulate plasma. And today as we know it we are looking at how we can control plasma using magnetic fields.

Science fiction will always have fantasy elements, because it is a fictional science, science that is unreal and hard to imagine, but it is certainly not fantasy. Where anything is possible, where the laws of science can be broken and left unexplained as to why it is broken.

Halo still is Science fiction, the laws of physics still remains semi solid with some minor leaks.

Yeah. It's rather "fantastical," but it's not exactly fantasy.

The difference is that, no matter how crazy and unrealistic it gets, scifi attempts to ground itself in some kind of reality. There is an obvious attempt to make everything look believable.

Fantasy on the other hand can do whatever the hell it wants and is under no obligation to explain how anything is possible.

"Apparently people don't like the truth, but I do like it; I like it because it upsets a lot of people. If you show them enough times that their arguments are bull-blam!-, then maybe just once, one of them will say, 'Oh! Wait a minute I was wrong.' I live for that happening. Rare, I assure you."-Lemmy of Motorhead

Yes, I'm the guy who had the Flood admit to being furries.

I'm hoping for some mystery elements in Halo 4, actually.

I think he's saying it went from being "Stargate SG-1's early episodes", where everything is based around the U.S. Air Force, and moved on to "Stargate: Atlantis" where they're actively searching to restore the technology of the Alterans or Ancients.

Seems like a flimsy point to me.

Vengeance only leads to an ongoing cycle of hatred.

It's only one teaser trailer featuring, what? 30 seconds of actual, like, "action". I wouldn't be so quick to judge. Either way, so far, I'm liking the way it looks. But, taking my own advice, I'm not going to be too quick to judge. So, we'll see.

If you're passionate about the thing you're talking about, I'll always lend an ear.
