It's a metaphor for the 07s' lack of identity. too old to be newfag, yet too new to be oldfag, we wander b.net in search of a home, forever trying to be something we are not.
First of all a few videos for those like myself who were late to the party:
Halo: Anniversary Trailer (HD)
Halo: Anniversary Exclusive
At E3 we were given two announcements, of Halo 4 of course which I probably won't make a thread about, but the other announcement Halo: Anniversary. Which is a remake of the Halo: Combat Evolved with updated graphics for the 360.
If any of you had ever paid any attention to my posts about a CE remake in the past, as it was being hinted at over the past few months my opinions were decidedly negative. I assumed that changes would be made, changes that I and rest of the Halo community would not be happy with. This was of course the last thing I wanted and I think the last thing that anyone who played and loved CE from 2001 on, would want.
However while obviously we have yet to play the game and any judgements should be withheld until the time that we do and have had a chance to plumb its depths I feel compelled by the second video posted to say that my fears have been somewhat assuaged. At the 1:43 mark of that video I was told the first thing that loosened the iron grip of fear on my mind when Dan Ayoub says, "Literally you pick this up the game play is identical to what it was ten years ago." I let out a sigh of relief at that point thinking at least the game play in the campaign was safe.
Later in the video Frankie talks about reliving the same campaign from Halo: CE and again my fears were proved baseless. Not only that but they are also adding additional back story via terminals. Those were the two big things that I was initially worried about when the idea of a CE remake were always talked about, changes, changes to anything. But it seems, so far that there will be no changes only a facelift for a game that is as close to perfect as you can get.
Another fantastic feature that 343 has included in Anniversary is the ability to "hit a button and at any point in the campaign you flop back and that's how the game looked 10 years ago." (2:30 mark) The ability to switch back and forth between the original graphics and the new updated version, in my opinion, is a master stroke and I'm already mentally preparing myself for the nostalgia explosion that is about to come.
While, once again, we have yet to play the game, based on what I have heard in this interview and in the trailer itself I am officially excited for Halo: Anniversary. Consider this thread the withdrawal of my previous negative comments about the idea. It seems that the Halo franchise is in very capable hands with Frankie and the rest of 343i.
