We're in a retro year for games . . .
Stop right there. No we're not.
Halo and Halo 2 are not "retro" games by any stretch of the imagination. Halo itself is a little over ten years old, and even then, you've had four sequels/spin-offs to keep you busy. They only seem old to people with no memory of video games prior to the 'next-gen' consoles and who typically lack a complete enjoyment and understanding of the medium as a whole.
They're not retro, but there certainly old by the current population standards (Which includes myself, I was only six years old when Halo: CE was released). It's surprising, sure, but when you see people on XBL with tags like 'ProSnipe01' and realize they were born the same year that Halo CE came out, these games are aging.
Not aging in the way Doom, Duke Nukem, Pong and all of the older "retro" (Arcade and what have you) games that I can't be bothered to play aged, but these newer games are starting to enter the "old classic" (in the eyes of the newer generation) realm. You, and gamers from past generations, don't see it that way, hell, I don't see them as classics, but it is going to progress this way. It's just the way that it works.
Imagine another 10 years of Halo, people are going to be nostalgic over Halo 3 (Some already are), and chances are we'll see a 3D motion controlled remake of the "timeless classic" for the new generation.
I'm with ya, Halo's not a retro game, but it's old. The new generation wants to experience it and Microsoft sees the money in it.
In a market stagnated by annual rehashes of the same space marine alien sex game, what can you expect.
