Shown in the new Halo 4 trailer, the chief is back, along with what sounds like cortana. Some things i have noticed, however are the sweet new graphics and what appears to be a new set of armor. You may not have noticed it, but here's the link:

I believe it's the Mark seven, because, what comes after 6, and if you read Halsey's journal, it states information about the various 'upgrades' present in the mark 7. One such upgrade are "-Atmospheric Insertion Systems"(ie: boosters), among other things.
Another thing that I noticed are the graphics. Halo has been known for using in-game assets in their cutscenes, as well as most trailers. One such example would be the Halo 3 announcement trailer. I can't believe that the 360 can handle such high-quality graphics, but if this is what gameplay consists of, it's going to be a giant leap foward. Similarly, you can complain about Reach's gameplay and balancing all you want, but if there's on thing you CAN'T complain about is the graphics.
P.S. upon detailed examination of the trailer, I can confirm several things.
1) The ship the chief's on is NOT Foward unto Dawn (last I checked, she still had her engines, and was shorter)
2) The mystery object is NOT onyx. Comparisons of the 'beam' reveal that it isn't even larger than a halo ring, yet alone a planet (however, still epic).
Edit 1: i am aware of "halo lore" and it is obvious that the chief is falling (or floating) toward the 'legendary planet' at the end of Halo 3 in the rear half of Foward Unto Dawn. there's no debate on that. the ship DOES look different in the trailer than it does in the legendary ending.
