Subject: Mark 7 Armor and some sweet graphics

Shown in the new Halo 4 trailer, the chief is back, along with what sounds like cortana. Some things i have noticed, however are the sweet new graphics and what appears to be a new set of armor. You may not have noticed it, but here's the link:
http://www.xbox.com/en-US/Marketplace/Product/Halo-4
(second picture)
I believe it's the Mark seven, because, what comes after 6, and if you read Halsey's journal, it states information about the various 'upgrades' present in the mark 7. One such upgrade are "-Atmospheric Insertion Systems"(ie: boosters), among other things.
Another thing that I noticed are the graphics. Halo has been known for using in-game assets in their cutscenes, as well as most trailers. One such example would be the Halo 3 announcement trailer. I can't believe that the 360 can handle such high-quality graphics, but if this is what gameplay consists of, it's going to be a giant leap foward. Similarly, you can complain about Reach's gameplay and balancing all you want, but if there's on thing you CAN'T complain about is the graphics.

P.S. upon detailed examination of the trailer, I can confirm several things.

1) The ship the chief's on is NOT Foward unto Dawn (last I checked, she still had her engines, and was shorter)
2) The mystery object is NOT onyx. Comparisons of the 'beam' reveal that it isn't even larger than a halo ring, yet alone a planet (however, still epic).

Edit 1: i am aware of "halo lore" and it is obvious that the chief is falling (or floating) toward the 'legendary planet' at the end of Halo 3 in the rear half of Foward Unto Dawn. there's no debate on that. the ship DOES look different in the trailer than it does in the legendary ending.

Mark VII looks similar to that Halo Wars spartan crap.

  • 06.06.2011 6:18 PM PDT

When at any point would he have changed that armor? He's been asleep for 5 years, ONI came when he was asleep and changed it?

"I will show you how a true Prussian officer fights!"

"And i will show you where the iron crosses grow..."

- "Cross of Iron"

It cant be mark 7 because hes no where near humans, let alone anybody. He IS on the forward unto dawn because hes in the cryo chamber with cortana exactly where halo 3 left off. Plus what other ship would they possibly put him on that's cut in half?

We are all going to get banned aren't we?

1. it is the PoA because the chief was at the rear of the ship and it still had engines. you can clearly see that at the end of halo 3

2. onyx is the forerunner world for shield world, (which it is in one sense of the word) The plantiod is planet sized, probably around earth sized (from glance)

And it isn't mark 7, it is a CGI representation of mark 6.

How isn't it Forward unto Dawn? and how would he get mkVII in between games?

  • 06.06.2011 6:22 PM PDT

What spectagon are you in?

The trailer is CGI, Frankie confirmed it. He also said they're not currently talking about the engine or any tech.

Note rear of ship at 1:17 into trailer. NOT a UNSC cruiser.
-Blam!- there go my hopes of next-gen graphics.

Edit 1: still, you going to call that grenade launcer cgi too (yes i know what CGI is, i'm saying tha if his armor is an interpretation, that that "pro pipe" is too?)

i agree with the first post, hes not on the Dawn, and thats not the same planetoid object hes floating towards in Halo 3
the objects shape and look are similar but different
i think he was somehow able to acquire upgraded armor on the surface of the unknown planet at the end of 3, possibly it could of had a secret ONI facility of it and he acquired it there, this is all speculation but theres many differences between the situation at the end of 3 and this trailer for 4

it is the PoA and it is the same planet.

frankie clearly said in a interview that those that know halo lore will be familiar with the events going on.

I was clarifying it for the OP as he seemed to think it could have possibly been running off the new engine. No need for the sarcasm.

I think forward unto dawn, how ironic would it be if he fired another halo and the ship got cut in half again and he found mark 7 and went into cryo?-_- use your logics dude

This is the Forward Unto Dawn. It is a CGI representation of the ship and armor and they might have changed in the process. It doesn't mean this is what is going to be in the game. Remember it's just a teaser-trailer, we haven't seen any gameplay.

Surely you mean Forward Unto Dawn?

The link in the OP doesn't work for me. Can someone post links to the detailed pictures of the Chief's armor?

I agree with the CGI representation of the ship bit, but this (taken from here) kind of affirms the new look. I may be wrong. In fact, I hope I am.

"Where ere thou hast been, here or in yon world manifest? Canst thou tell what is, or what was, or what is to come? No thing shall last. Yet there are some things that will never change. History is written in blood, yet are battles really lost on the battlefield? Canst thou tell me where thou comest, and where thou goest, and what is, or what was, or what will be? For everything remains, AS IT NEVER WAS."

That is not the Pillar of Autumn, how could anyone reach that conclusion? As for the trailers "canonicity," look at the ones for Halo 3. The Ark portal's activation site looked almost nothing like the final product, and the Bubble Shield closer resembled the Drop Shields in Reach.

What have we learned in the past five or six years? All the things that we saw in that >>TEASER<< aren't necessarily accurate to the letter. Mark VII? It's likely he gets an armor upgrade somewhere along the storyline, but not immediately after exiting cryo. Grenade launcher? Probably somewhere in the Armory. Jetpacks? Well, the Mark VI has boosters in the thigh-armor - as seen in the Halo Graphic Novel - it's likely they're also in the shoulder/back section.

It looks retarded.

Also, if that's Mark VII, why the hell is he getting new armor every few weeks now? There was nothing wrong with the MKVI, and it looks a damn sight better than this mega-blocks looking garbage.

Yup. If I were John, I would definitely have wanted some EVA upgrades after crap that happened in First Strike and TFoR.

  • 06.06.2011 7:34 PM PDT

Any linkage to where it says the Mark VI has jetpack like thrusters auto-built in?
