Hope it's not bs, but it seems pretty legit. Sounds really cool though.

I want Halo 3 back how it was.

First off, I have no idea if this is legit but it sure looks/sounds like something legit.

Assuming this info is all true...

...I really hate the idea of ONI and the UNSC being involved in the story. I want something totally different and it just seems waaaaay too convenient that ONI had a huge forerunner planet under their control all of this team and never bothered to mention it and now MC happens to show up at it. Almost feels like they are sacrificing story for gameplay mechanics they wanted to make (weapon customization, etc.) If they really wanted to have UNSC tech in the game then it would have made more sense to just have it on board with the ship he was marooned on...not stick an entire UNSC force and ONI oversight on a forerunner planet.

It's worrisome...I just want something entirely new or at least something that makes sense like finding Halsey and the other spartans in that crazy dome thing that I can't remember the technical name for right now....I'm not liking where the overall story of the Halo universe is going if this is all true.

Lastly, I wonder if the new promised customization is going to be as promising as Reachs' and fall just as flat. Durp...

Why the -blam!- would ONI ever mention it? Do you understand them?

  • 06.09.2011 10:20 PM PDT

Its legit, and I'm thinking the "dark new foe" is a smarter version of the flood (possibly infected forerunner?), because cortana says the words "this time" or something like that...

"Wake me, when you need me."

SPOILER ALERT!!!! IF YOUR PLANNING ON READING HALO CRYPTUM DO NOT READ THIS UNLESS YOU DONT CARE IF I SPOIL PARTS OF THE BOOK FOR YOU!!!

If any of you have read up on halo lore you should be able to figure out what the new enemy is. And if any of you have read "Halo Cryptum" by astounding science fiction writer Greg Bear then you should know for 100% certainty what the enemy is. The precursors. Basically to sum it down, u find out in the book that precursors were these huge 12 to 15 foot tall weird beings that were so advanced they could basically do whatever they wanted, and they created the forerunners (and possibly the flood, if you dont understand read the book and u will.) but basically the forerunners killed and destroyed their creators all except for the last one. and in the book, it escapes from its prison that was buried deep beneath the planet(I will not tell you the planets name or what it has to do with the story, to much spoiling, just know the planet has something to do with human kind.) So basically i think the new enemies have something to do with precursors and the UNSC basically stepped into some DEEP -blam!-. So if this article really is legit then i believe that is the enemy we will be dealing with. If not, then we will just have to see haha, anyway it turns out, i think its gonna be a great game and a great new halo trilogy.

"Wake me, when you need me."

And echo 1 sniper, if you were even remotely intelligent enough to figure out the way ONI and the UNSC have operated throughout history then you wouldn't be dissing this possibly true story for halo 4. But I guess you wouldn't know cause you probably haven't read up on any of the lore for halo or any of the books. Don't open your trap unless you have legitimate knowledge to back up your opinion. And well if you have read the lore and books I guess that is just your opinion. But its still sad that you cant just except halo 4 for whatever its gonna be. You should be happy that the continuation of the halo story and master chiefs story is even happening. Be a fan, show some respect.

Causing mischief from the shadows

I'm seeing this pop up on YouTube and several gaming websites as unconfirmed reports. It makes you wonder how much substance there is behind it.

If this is true, it sounds like they're completely separating it from Bungie-Halo. That's a very good thing in my opinion, as Bungie Halo, is Best Halo. :)

Nor does he realize that quite a long time has past since the end of Halo 3.

I understand ONI and their function perfectly fine, thanks.

The problem is...when humanity as a whole was on the brink of destruction they (ONI) still didn't bother to talk about an entire Forerunner planet under UNSC control? I have a hard time believing even such a secretive agency as ONI would keep their lids shut on something as potentially game changing as that. What exactly were they waiting for to happen before they said something?

And how exactly do you figured it's been a long time since the events of Halo 3? There is zero references to the amount of time lapsed since the events of...well, anything. Heck, for all we know the MC could be in the past, future or another dimension entirely.

And since when did the UNSC and ONI become the bad guys in the Halo universe? It just doesn't work for me.

But feel free to keep insulting me, it's just my opinion. Take it or leave it. Besides, there is no way of knowing if any of this is true so it could all be for naught in the end.

I never insulted you, I merely pointed out something you didn't know. For one, there was snow on the ship at the end. Secondly, Frank O'Connor said in an interview sometime during E3 that "sometime has past since the events of Halo 3" saying that H4 doesn't take place immediately after.

The point I was trying to make is that the planet might have been found after the war, not during it. We know literally nothing about the story, so let's just go with what we have for now.

Hmmm, I don't know what to say...

Posted by: H0FFman J
There are UNSC forces on the planet but they look really degraded and disorganized and it was implied that they may be divided into factions and warring with each other. At one point we see a heavily modified warthog that has had the wheels replaced two kind of anti gravity devices.
Now we know what the spirit of fire was doing.

Anders has been busy.

Of course. Of course. You might have just cracked the story right there. Remember the end of Halo Wars, when Serena needs the Captain? I have a feeling...

Robert: Just because there is snow/ice inside the ship doesn't necessarily mean that a lot of time has passed. If the ship is split in half then we can assume it's been subjected to multiple types of failures. The heating has probably shut off and space is a very cold place so things would freeze up rather quickly.

I understand that Frankie has said it occurs sometime after the events of H3 but that doesn't tell us much. Some time after the events of H3 could be as little or as long as it needs to be.

But for conversational sake, lets assume they've discovered the planet long after the events of H3. Lets say...5+ years after H3. The questions I have would be: 1-Where is the remnant of the Covenant and what are they doing? 2- Why would the UNSC forces on the ground be so isolated and seemingly forgotten/disorganized/burned out? (assuming this leaked info is legit).

I'm just having a hard time seeing how things would line up to make sense if the UNSC are occupying a Forerunner planet, regardless of the time frame.

Also, I wasn't referring to you when I said "feel free to keep insulting me.".

why do you assume ONI had the planet under it's control?
it propably hadn't, since MC will be there to fight, not for recreation.
and even if there were no hostile activities on that "planet" until MCs arrival: why would ONI have gone public about that planet?

the fact that they abductet hundreds of kids and put them through hell on earth is your first hint.

live isn't black and white, neither is halo.

because it is the most simple and logical deduction. time travel isn't.

He never said ONI had the planet under control. My guess is that they sent some troops in to "get it under control" and -blam!- hit the fan, so they pretty much "forgot" it ever happened, and listed the troops as KIA without bothering to help them off the planet.

If this new threat is going to be a threat to the whole universe then they eventually have to tie in the covenant and the unsc. Having stranded troops on the planet seems like a great way to do it.

Also remember that this is the first game in a new trilogy, so they have plenty of time to bring everyone together in time for one big fight.

  • 06.10.2011 8:10 AM PDT

hmmm... Might be fake. Did anybody else notice how horrible Cortana looked?

  • 06.10.2011 8:11 AM PDT

Awesome isn’t just a word. Awesome is a way of life. Awesome is a way of war. Teamwork matters the most. Lone Wolves jeopardize the missions. Teamwork is key. Resistance is futile. The covenant fear us, not the other way around. We don’t fight for Earth. We don’t fight for Reach. We fight for the good of mankind because we are A.W.E.S.O.M.E. Alpha Wolf Elite Squadron Ordinary Mammals Electrocuted. Click the Homepage.

It SOUNDS feasible. I want to believe it, and that there's even more that's still gonna surprize us.

If this is legit: I'm happy. More Customization than ANY FPS? I dunno if Fallout 3 and NV count as FPSs, but if they do, DAMN. Just damn. If Halo with more customizable than Fallout, this may just be too awesome. What's forge gonna look like? Damn. Weapon Customization? Sounds good as long as it's not abrupt. Like Crysis 2. AAs? I hope for more, balanced, and diverse AAs. Maybe 343 wont be so bad. If this is legit, tell us more.

If you made this up: you must have NO life to take your time and come up with something THIS plausable and post it in the forums.

(Is it weird that i've heard that term "Sigma 7" somewhere in Video Gameing waaaay before this year's E3?)
