Subject: How did Chief acquire new armor?

Lets Boogie

Ok, some of you might say that the explanation for the new armor John has in the halo 4 trailer, is just a graphics update. But that doesn't make sense. We knew the armor the Chief wore in Halo 2 and 3 were the same because the shape looked the same, even though the graphics in halo 3 made the armor look better. However the armor shown in the trailer, looks NOTHING like Mark VI. I really hope 343 does not screw up canon, since it would make more sense for him to be wearing Mark VI.

It's just a GCI interpretation, I'm pretty sure the armor in the game will be different.

PEANUT-BUTTER SLAP!

It's the same armor. 343 just wants to use their own design. It was redesigned from 2 to 3, it was just very slight; look at the hands, for example. Hell, the Arbiter's armor got a flashlight, mandible guards, and even changed color between games.
Also, how come this is the only thing people are fixating on? Nobody seems concerned that there's a fire in space.

It's possible for fire to exist in space, just so long as there's fuel to burn. Just look at THE SUN AND ALL THE OTHER STARS.

I don't think you're trolling, but I really hope you are. Stars run on nuclear fusion, not combustion. You need oxygen for combustion, it's the same reason you can't drive a car underwater.

Do you know what kind of hat I'm wearing?

A party hat; you don't get one. An honor will this party be, a party in your honor, for your honor. Some of Tfear's personal guards are going to be there. You'll be introduced shortly.

Prepare to die.

Can you upgrade armor while in Cryo?

That's qhat I thought - Cortana might have been upgrading his armour while in Cryo. If not, it's still cool armour!

The System agrees with this. The ship would require oxygen to have human occupants on it, otherwise they would die. This also includes being able to supply 'John' with oxygen while in cryostasis. True, his armor does come with a timed amount of oxygen inside of it, but this is still limited, eventually leading to his death by suffocation.

The explosions most likely triggered from the combination listed.

The Nuclear Fusion part of the sun is the core, which generates the heat, but the flames, the stuff that looks like fire, can shoot out thousands of miles past the surface. I was just using the stars as an example for fire being in space.

EDIT: Don't UNSC ships also run on Fusion Generators.

Stupid ass washing machine...

I'm not sure it is new armour - it could be a Mark-VI.5, if you know what a mean - an upgraded variation on his original suit.

Or, if it is indeed a "Mark-VII" then perhaps that wasn't the first time he emerged from cryostasis?

Eitherway, it doesn't matter. The events in the trailer are most likely non-canonical, and simply there to tell us that John has woken up, Cortana is still there, he's more bad-ass than ever, and the Forerunner planet is heating up...

  • 06.07.2011 4:23 AM PDT

You don't need plain oxygen to to have a fire in space, if enough of a oxygen containing compound mixed with the fuel, and enough heat is present to break the bonds of said oxygen containing compound you CAN have fire, some solid rocket fuels use this type of combustion.

The surface of stars is plasma, not fire. What's the difference between plasama and fire? Plasma is ionized gas, fire is a result of combustion. Combustion is oxygen combining with other elements like carbon to create substances like carbon dioxide. Fire is non-ionized gas. Those are two totally different things.

Do not panic, or you will fail.

You guys are making WAAAY too big of a deal out of a minute long, CGI trailer. Let's wait for a trailer that actually uses the game's engine and elements before we start lambasting the game completely.

In the books the armor is described as a somewhat bulky set... so they might have wanted it to be more canonical. Otherwise it is the engine mixed with the CGI graphics that changed its look...

You barely even see your armor in the Halo games whilst you're playing anyway, i dunno why everyone is getting so bent out of shape about this.

That's plasma. Not fire. Everybody knows stars are not burning. You are an idiot.

You obviously haven't met my younger brother then.

He changed armour while he was sleeping, which proves his true identity to be Chuck Norris.

  • 06.07.2011 10:24 AM PDT

question everything...truth has no pedigree

No one knows why the Chief's armor is different, as we've all seen the same trailer (which doesn't explain the new armor). Don't worry about canon, there are a lot of ways his armor could have been upgraded on the Dawn.
