From the IGN article:

The Elite's Plasma Sword can be used by Master Chief and his cloned crew or by the Elite's themselves.

I'm elated that the plasma sword is usable, but does anyone else think that the plasma sword looked better in Halo?

Perhaps. It's much more crisp now. But in Halo 1, it had that "PWN" factor to it. Methinks 'twas better back then, but it's alright now. It's just that alright isn't good enough. :-P

I found the one in Halo looked a little heavy to be weilded like it is in Halo2. It's a little too bulky.

I love the tiniest details portrayed in the pics. Especially the ghost's underview.

BTW, I love the guy's nickname for the plasma sword: my son-of-a-b****. haha

The Plasma Sword in Halo was a bit longer than this one, but it's still wicked. I don't think it will kill in one shot though and if it does, thats probably the reason they made it shorter.

the sword in halo 1 longer, but it was skinnier at the base, it didnt have that much curl to it. also the one in halo had a glow to it, this one looks like a peice of glass not a gloing plasma sword, still cant wait to use. just make it have more glow i reccon.

It kills instantly with the Lunge attack. Just light him up with your reticle and leap forwards twenty feet and impale him!

because we have oriented the covenent with plasme (i.e. plasma rifle) and PLASMA sounds so much cooler than ENERGY

Chief says it is a white hot blade of plasma in a magnetic envelope. I hope there are combos.

plasma is a form of energy.

As far as comments on the halo 1 and halo 2 sword differences, I liked the old one. It had more visual appeal. It glowed better and had like plasma smoke/gas coming off of it. This new one looks like a solid piece of glass. Even in the E3 trailer last year for Halo 2 they made them look like the ones in Halo 1. I guess simply put the old one looked more vicious.

They might have shut down the "smoke" to free up the particle engine on the accelerator. A shame. I really did like the smoke effect, which was realistic too... as it "cooked" the air around the magnetic envelope.

Technically, plasma is a state of matter, but i guess it can be considered energy.

Yes. It's an energized state of matter and like different solids and liquids having different properties plasma has innumerable properties. It is neither hot nor cold. It can be either.
