wow thanks Frost. this is gettin interesting. Lag, cheating and netcode. Maybe a combo? I don't know about 1 hit melee's. does that happen? You said it takes 3. One time this guy didn't see me and it took me like 5! He may have had overshield though who knows. I guess it's like the warning says "gameplay may change during online play" or whatever it is. That's why we all need to enter halo PC championships all equalized! Then the best man will truly win!!

I think the issue here is people who are hard to take down, more than people with modded weapons. (if there was a modded shotgun with rockets, wouldn't the death still be like hit with rockets?)

I'm wondering what causes this cause of BS then, if not modding of any type. The easy answer is to brush me off and say I probably stink online and that I'm venting here, but that's not the case. I play a lot and don't see this stuff much, but every now and then I come across some pretty incredible crap, and I have a hard time explaining how it can possibly happen. The only thing I can think of other than the aforementioned netcode theory is maybe somehow causing and taking advantage of lag spikes client side. I KNOW I've had the server side with my client when I've been lagging before and been hit with rockets that do no damage. For example in a game yesterday a rocket was fired, exploded, and seen to explode under my feet by both the guy firing it and myself. The screen flashed yellow, I fired back and killed him, and took no damage from the first rocket which hit me. Another game I was flying a Banshee on Blood Gulch and singlehandedly slaughtering the red team. I missed one, he got in a tank, fired, it hit me, exploded, but I again took no damage and took advantage of the situation to kill the tanker. Got cries of 'wtf', accused of cheating, and banned. Given something like this happens to me probably once out of every 30-40 games by complete accident, I think perhaps it might be possible to replicate this situation and give yourself a lag spike to get out of an otherwise fatal situation. It wouldn't work all the time, explaining why these people are still quite mortal, usually when caught by surprise with no time to react, but it could still work plenty of times to give a very perceptible edge. You can ask why would someone go to that kind of trouble, but I can only say look at the huge and thriving online cheating community UT once had. Some people get something out of it, though I don't know what.

I've gotta hand it to King Panzer. He's Right. I'm an expert modder and the mod doesn't need to be with the host. There are invincible mods but I refuse to use them. All of the cheaters out there shouldn't be allowed to play.

well you said it. Sometimes you get nailed and nothing happens. My case is probably lag/leading problems because of stinky dial up. As far as someone creating a lag spike, someone said hitting printscreen causes lag. Maybe we have people doing that constantly to seem untouchable. I know the lag is a big thing though because even though someone comes by and kills me when I couldn't take them down one oh my teammates has no problems. (of course I took down the shields though! lol)

I am with Frost. There are some really good players that know how to move jump and shoot. However, there are players that you shoot in the head so many times, you hear the hits, you reload and hit them some more and they do not die. A total crock. Anyway, I have used a modded map (Blood Gulch) and it does help alot. Every server that I played on allowed me to use my modded map. I did it to see how it worked. There are a lot of modded maps out there. Some are obvious, and some are not. At least not to you.

However, I have gone back to normal maps so that I can work on my skills and not cheat. I have DSL and I get great pings. It is not lag that makes you sense a cheater. That does happen, but there is two different issues. One being a person sidesteps your Hog and does not die or they jump around your screen unusually (Lag). Then there is you shooting the crap out of them and they do not die and later they kill you across the map with a single shot from a pistol (Cheat). "Homie don't think so". I want to have skills, so I will play with the maps that they give us. See ya in battle (HOMEBOY).

admittedly i do get furious when im in a medium range pistol dual and my opponent never misses a single shot, i however can see 1 or 2 shots hitting him but the rest pingin off the scenery. im not holding down the firing button cos i know that makes ur shots less accurate. after the same guy does it to you about 10 times in a row and you can see he`s gunning down loads of ur teammates then ur gonna think somethings up.

I remember one game in particualr, i was playing and a guy named colonel kept on running around with an AR and killing people in 2 shots no joke, the screen filled up with text about him killing people, 2 AR shots dont kill someone and there was no lag, he musy have been hacking, also when he shot you your screen went purple and you couldnt move.........

usually if you melee someone, if theyre not standing still, chances are you didnt hit them. Again, you need to take the lag into consideration, and you know if you missed if you dont hear that beep that tells u that u hit someone. Don't be so quick to accuse ppl

Yep, thats lag.

I hate it when you go to a server and the guys all like, "I bet I can beat you!" and then you get this lag while he's all like, "Ha-ha! I got you so bad!" Then you just wanna strangle him, lol.

I usually tell the person that theres lag, then quit on him. If some one says theres lag, then you better believe them! Thats what I think.

It's all optimum conditions really;

if a person has image quality turned to low, a good comp hardware set up (to run the game well and get good frame rates), a high speed connection, and is in a server with low ping, he's gonna have an advantage on someone who's playing on 56k with all bells and whistles on and an ATI rage card...

I happen to play on a T1, and sometimes, things happen that make me ask aloud, "how the heck am i still alive?!"

I've been accused of cheating/hacking too. I've also played against ppl that were impossible to hit. leading targets is a neccesity in all matches though. I lead in EVERY game, and i'm on campus T1.

If i find someone very hard to kill, i start shooting further and further in front of him...i've had to lead as much as the length of a warthog....

low ping, high hardware capability, and prediction of enemy movement wins the game 9 outta 10 times.

One thing nobody has mentioned so far (or so i think from the light browsing of this thread) is the Halo physics model or engine whatever. When ported to PC the geartbox dudes left alot to be desired as everybody knows. This shows up like when you nail somebody with a warthog and they magically apear behind you and then they promptly nail you with a rocket (DAMN U!!!!) The bullets still rely on the physics model so if it doesnt work for vehicles, it wont work for bullets. Since most physics simulation work is done in the CPU you pretty much need a nice comp above 2.5ghz (or AMD 2500+ equivalent).

When u host a server u have no ping so it is very easy to kill someone and ur shots dont miss much this is one way people seem better than they really are

I think my case is mostly lag from my stinky dial up. I usually have around a 250 ping or so. Yesterday I was doing like usual, getting killed all over the place even though I know I'm aiming well (red targets, head shots with pistols) and I know I get shots off before the other guy even sees me. One round went to all rockets (first all rockets round I've played) and I won by more than 10 kills! That tells me that I'm plenty fast and my shots with regular guns just aren't hitting but since the rockets have big explosions lag doesn't matter! Think I better start leading. Maybe that will help until I can get DSL. Only then will i be able to fully assess who may be modding!! GET SOME SKILLS! lol.

It could be lag. If someone starts a server and gives off a lot of lag, they wont get any lag and itll be really hard to kill them. You might see them somewhere, but they might actually be right behind you slapping you in the back. What causes the person who starts a server to lag is if their server cant support that many players.

as far as the guy being aloud to go on a moded server and use it I have to say I too have got onto a server with a moded blood goltch map whare I get a gun like the SMG from H2 but not the real thing of course and a plasma rifle and insted of banshes they had flying shade guns! as far as i could tell none of the other pleayrs seen or know about any of it and as far as the smg doing lots of dame age the anser is NO! no no it was just a normal pistol it olny looked like it was fiering that much and fast what ever. so every gun actoy acted like the orignal one on the map that said the main thing is most sept the one wahre you can see invisable guys are not going to work in a public server WHEN WE USE THEM WE ARE ONLY FOOLING ARE SELVS SHORE WE SEE ALL THE STUFF THE MOD SPOSED TO DO BUT BUT! it do not work on the other end if you know what i mean i stoped using that as soon as i sen how dumb the weapons looked comaprd to the orignal. as far as the roctets not killing guys. it is because of lag or something ive seen it happen many times and it has happed to me many times

NETCODE!!! haha. I had some good games last night actually. Maybe I'm getting better. Or maybe it's cus I turned down even MORE settings. I think my ping was a LITTLE better. Also I have a cheap optical mouse which I've heard can have an effect so I used my regular mouse. Who knows what it is now! So many variables. I don't doubt that lag is the major issue and that can be affected by not only ping but how well your own system is running. If it's not processing what's going on as fast as it's really going, you will get burned. I need a 9800 PRO!!!

Escape will make me God.

Yeah, it's definitely netcode. Seldomly have I played against any player whom I could not kill at all. I have read there are ways to make your player constantly warp around the screen so as not to be hit, though I've only seen it once.

The lag in Halo PC is just damn frustrating sometimes. Usually I cannot tolerate any latency higher than 100ms. Generally you just have to join a low-ping server and adjust your leading accordingly. Once you get the leading down it's a lot easier to predict when your shot or melee will hit. Sure, there have been times where I am right behind someone and smack them five times with my gun and they still don't die. If it sounds like you are connecting, but there's no "grunt", then you obviously gotta be just a tad closer. I have found it also works better if you swipe with your melee attacks. You can get really good at running by someone, turning quickly, and connecting with the back of their skull. Good times...
