At the end of Halo 3 we see Master Chief going into a cryotube. In the teaser for Halo 4 we see Master Chief exit, with an unknown amount of time passed. I know a few things: If it were anything longer than a year, Cortana would've already been corrupt. I'm not sure the extent of the damage, but I'm sure we would've noticed anything drastic. Also, the legendary planet appears to be the same as the one at the beginning of the trailer, so it was likely only a few days, maybe weeks of drifting. Does anyone have any confirmation on this, though?

No confirmations yet.

Jesus loves you! But I think you're a -blam!-

About 10 minutes and then Cortana, once again -blam!-es his ear off. The man can't even nap.

We don't know.

Lots of snow in the ship, and his armor was decaying (parts missing, although some could say it was un-shown damage from the events of Halo 3). I'd say a lot longer then a few days, but less then a year.

over 9000 years

@ krusher z

I don't know how metal like that, can just decay...but the rest of what you said makes sense

"The measure of a man is what he does with power"-Plato

In Origins he was out cold 5 years.

It's possible they'll keep the Bungieness there and I'd say he's been out 7.

He was already kind of close to the planet at the end of Halo 3. It can't have been too long.

@ kevlarcasm

Yes but how much time had passed between the standard finale and the legendary finale??

An unknown amount of time passes by from the moment he enters cryo sleep, to the point where they show the planet.

how does the thing in the trailer look anything like the planet at the end of H3. I would say the only similarity is they're both probably ancient.

Cortnana would have not necessarily gone rampant. she was far more advanced then most AIs. the one in cole protocol was several yrs past 7. plus it could be argued that she has already been through rampancy.

i would say a few yrs has gone by.

I think it's safe to say that the planet is pretty ancient.

Cortana's unavoidable rampancy is commonly believed to have happened during her time in High Charity.

Bungie.net is the place to be!

Amidst the snowfall, the cold does little to diminish his wishes to be free. The eagle is chained and has no way of breaking free. No matter how much he flies, he still is chained. The blizzards do nothing to break his determination and in his eyes, he will be freed, someday...

Bad habits are like chains that are too light to feel until they are too heavy to carry

No, she has not gone rampant because if the speed of ship were to remain the same as in the Halo 3 ending, it would take a couple of months at most.

They've been out there five years by the time of Halo Legends Origins, I don't know how long after that they would have been out there though...maybe two more years to bring it to a total of 7?

Why do you think there would be anything wrong with Cortana? I don't think we really know how long a UNSC "Smart" AI can live, they're deleted after seven years because that's usually how long it takes them to go Rampant, but Cortana already went through Rampancy in Halo 3 while she was being held by the Gravemind.

I meant to say she has not necessarily

If that were true, then Cortana would have already died. Smart AI's like her end up becoming corrupt and "think themselves to death" after about 7 years from the time they were created.

It's possible that the gap is between the regular ending and the legendary ending from Halo 3, and the 4 trailer takes place an hour or so after that.

That's how I always viewed it. Like the origins episode (canon or not) would have taken place between the ending and the legendary ending.

Glory and fame, blood is our name!
Souls full of thunder, hearts of steel!
Killers of men, a warrior's friend!
Sworn to avenge our fallen brothers!
Sons of the gods, today we shall die.
Open Valhalla's door!
Let the battle begin, with swords in the wind! Hail Gods of War!

Maybe they orbited he planet for a while, and now, somehow, they're in a decaying orbit.

one, their is alot of snow, snow in space is super rare, and takes for ever to build up (ice on the other hand still takes a while to buildup, but is far more common) and their is alot of it, this could point to him having been in space for quite a while, yet, cortana does not appear to be rampant, which could mean that it has been no more than 5-6 years, or that coratana either found a way to stave off rampancy, or actually is rampant,

take it or leave it, right now their is zero way to confirm or deny even a guestimate of how long he has been in cyro.
