ULTIMATE FAILURE.

It's not a jetpack. They're zero-g control jets - you really think jets that tiny could lift a spartan in armour weighing a full ton? mark V armour had control thrusters, so it makes sense that all later models would have them too.

The name's Ian, Game Designer at Whisper Game Studios, very off-and-on Bungie.net visitor and avid Bungie fan overall. Message me if you wish.

They're thruster built externally onto the chief's suit. Really, look at the picture. It's not part of his armor, or if it is he just got bigger armor... Mark V had boosters, not control thrusters.

True - it does seem rather large. Although then again, it's been confirmed that a motherload of changes have happened to his armour between 3&4 in that famous 343 interview, so I suppose we can assume that the chunkiness (and maybe the boosters) are newer additions.

You don't kick a man when they're down, so don't teabag me when I'm dead!

I believe that the nom-ing portal thing is an entrance to a dyson sphere. This would explain the light coming out of it (much like sunlight don't you think?). Also, I can't think what else it might be.

Strange, as just before I watched the trailer, I explained to my friend that I always thought the thing that MC was drifting towards in Halo 3 was a dyson sphere, despite people saying about the star in the background illuminating its surface (could be a different star, or forerunner settlements/industrial activity on the outside of the dyson sphere). I mainly thought that because I didn't believe it would be the plannet Onyx, and partly because Dysin spheres sound cool as hell
THis only heightens my suspicions.

Am I the only one who thinks the jetpack may mean there will be zero gravity combat? Just like a hint or something?

It still has no reason to be there canonically. That's my highest concern. Anyone can get away with a "just because" but Halo hasn't done such a thing so for it to start now is preposterous.
It doesn't have a reason NOT to be there. The only time he would have used it would have been in Halo 2, and he didn't need to be super-manueverable then. Mendez trained Spartan IIs to use thruster packs, and I think the packs are intergrated in MJOLNIR armour. It works in zero-gravity only, in-atmosphere it is replaced by the common jetpack. I don't think it breaks canon at all, but I'd say the armour change is too drastic.

List of Points:
=========================
jediknightvetro- The pistol MC has is most likely a new weapon. It isn't an attachment, you can tell because it flares after being shot, then is replaced by another grenade or other external attachment applied after being fired.

Sniffy66- Jetpack may suggest more spacial combat/gameplay either in campaign, multiplayer, both, etc.

(The above points are paraphrased and rewritten for more accuracy and clearer presentation of points.)

I think that weapon Chief has is a power tool just floating around... because there were a lot of them... and it seems logical...

The armor isn't necessarily upgraded Frank O'Connor said in an interview (around 5:20) that there is a reason for him looking different, and his behavior being different...
