Subject: Should Halo 4 be the old halo we know and love or Reach?

I just wanted to post a discussion to get peoples thoughts on this subject because in my honest opinion after Halo 3.... Bungie no offense....but you messed up hard and let true halo fans down....I have played halo since I was 11 or 12 with halo 1 and up through all the halos. Every single game was addicting and you couldn't put it down.....accept for Reach...I felt it was an attempt to go to call of duty where anyone could get the highest rank and skill didnt matter. Rank wasnt a thing that discriminated it is what kids strived for because not everyone could get a 50 so it made the game addicting. And with halo reach not only did this throw true fans off but the sprint/ special abilities was the final stab in the back because true halo had always been who was the best at shooting. Now anyone can get shot and sprint away or armor lock. Im sorry but the new halo needs to go back to the old path. If it doesnt I honestly know alot of fans including myself will give up on halo. So what does everyone think?

THANK YOU! I'm so glad theres someone who feels the exact same way i do about reach and all the other halos and finaly said something. i agree with you 100% ive been a halo die hard since halo Combat Evolved. and reach just didnt feel right. i hated the special abilities. it felt like they were trying to be like CoD. the armor lock thing got really old really fast. all the other halos was all technique and like you said, who could shoot better. now its just *stick* *armor lock* boom "Suicide!". so in other words i feel THE EXACT same way.

I'm 23, I have a house, dog, girlfriend, job and I have no interest in any fanboyism so if you're thinking about sending me a childish PM, don't be surprised when I don't call back.

They should go back to square one, Halo 2 was the first successful LIVE Halo and for good reason. Frankie said in the Halo:CEA vidoc about the Halo 1 multiplayer being fun on LAN but frustrating on LIVE and he was right.

I think Halo 2 has everything that makes a shooter good and more importantly everything that makes Halo good especially whe thinking of online play. If they can capture some of that then they'll end up with a great game.

Yeah, riding on CE's success and having an almost monopoly-like position in the market was the reason.

You're a mod, you should be used to that.

AAs were the major fault of bungie. It just created an unbalanced game like call of duty. Halo is amazing in my book because of how everyone spawned with the same weapon and armour. It was pure skill against skill, reach added many different items to the equation and inevitably changed halo.

Or perhaps go into a different direction?

I love old Halo, I like Reach...but I don't want Halo to be a one trick pony that is going the CoD route of not doing anything new.

- AA's/Equipment can be gone as far as I'm concerned. Sprint should be a standard ability of Chief, as well as his Thruster Pack/Jetpack (maybe put these under left/right on the D-pad?).

That means it will already feel more like classic Halo.

- trailer shows weapon attachements....I like the idea: bring it on.

- I would LOVE to have some simple squad controls, if we happen to meet up with other Spartans or ODSTs for instance. Just simple: go there/attack X

- I would definatly love to get back some of the exploration sense of Halo CE, but mixed with the rich and deep storytelling of Halo 2...something all Halos after H2 missed.

- MP games maybe could support more players, include a Battlefield type "KoTH" mode (so not entire MP like that, but just 1 mode) and support Custom Game Matchmaking.
Better, more detailed Armory with more individual custimization (different colors for each piece of armor for instance, pattern-stamps, backpacks, boots, attachements like shoulder-cams, more visor colors, etc) and an even better Forge mode.

- As for 50 ranked, or current system: I rather have the current one, but maybe with a 1-50 system attached to it. So a mixture of both systems. Pure 50 system had just as many flaws and other crap as the current system has.

^ I loved the 50 true skill ranking system, but I don't know if i could put up with it again. Once you got past the fun times there was quite a bit of pressure and the games became a little less enjoyable, I do like it better than reach's system though.

50 system was abused just like the current one. And what I hated most is how unfair the system was. Win 5 games to move up 1 level, but lose 1 and you would be set back 1.5 level at times.

definitely want true skill back

also, i hate that you can choose classes in reach, i liked everyone starting with the exact same weapons and then fighting over power weapons, equipment, loadouts etc.

honestly, i do not play reach as i loved the competitive aspect of halo 3, if i loose i will go down makes winning feel so much better.

reach became to much like cod in that a skilled player will get to the highest ranked quicker but anyone can get there which makes it far less prestigious. hoving said that, in halo 4 if true skill were to come back i would like a more complex xp system in place as well (with skill being needed for some ranks).
