Do you think the trailer kind of confirms that the first mission will be escaping the Dawn while it's being destroyed? or do you think all that will just be in a cutscene?

While it'll most likely be in a cutscene, the use of EVA thrusters in MC's armor might suggest that the first mission or maybe a prelude will be to dodge debris after the Dawn explodes. (That's what I'd want)

yeah that's what I was thinking, dodging exploding debris with the jetpack and having that grenade launching pistol as one of the first weapons to use. But there kinda has to be enemies so I dunno... maybe some sentinels and other forerunner things invade the Dawn? or some convenant? or flood?

Indeed, if the object at the end of the trailer is Onyx, like I speculate it is, then you'd most definitely have thousands, perhaps millions, of sentinels to contend with... Especially if this follows canon.

First, it follows canon. Second, cause it follows canon, it can't be Onyx because Onyx was destroyed.
I believe that giant thing that was opening was the entrance to the homeworld of the Forerunners. A shield world.

Eh, well, it was kind of destroyed, but yes, I see your point.
Back on topic: Even if it is a shield world, you'd still have to contend with Forerunner defenses.

Yeah. I know that. The idea for the first mission would be really badass

Bungie Pentathlon - who actually cares ?

Certainly won't have time to test out your controls !

The best time to test out controls would be while you head back to get Cortana from the AI display terminal.

That would kill the pace of the game from the onset - your ship is drifting, on fire and then you have to go through testing an interface etc ?

Nah, I would imagine that the opening of the game is a cutscene akin to that (cut scene purely) and once you crash on the planetoid you then go through a bit more story than calibration matters ?

I'm just talking about basic motor functions and directional orientation. You don't want to face the dead of space without knowing which way is which.

(I.E. As your floating back through the ship to grab your AI companion, you must calibrate your inverted (or not) Y Axis view, then bob and weave around pieces of the walls floating around inside the corridor.)

This is all of course assuming there'd be another Zero G encounter later on in the game. If not, then my last paragraph is moot.

OR, you could just not have any kind of orientation at all, and just have to do your best to think on your own for a minute while you do the "prelude," then you get a full tutorial or whatever later on in the zero-g mission.

Then of course, wherever you land, you can do a full systems check and test.

Maybe I will never be
All the things that I wanna be
But now is not the time to cry
Now's the time to find out why
I think you're the same as me
We see things they'll never see
You and I are gonna live forever

Same. It would be something like Dead Space but more awesome.

Seeing as the first and second Halos have space station scenes... They might want to continue that

Use common sense, for the love of God and all that is almighty.
Not that I believe in God.
After all, he was born out of a fictional book.
But books are cool either way.
Great for killing flies.
And stuff.

Remember the start of ODST when you look around the pod? The beginning of Halo 4 may be like that but inside the Cryo Pod.

  • 06.08.2011 10:41 AM PDT

I'm guessing it will be mainly exploring wherever he lands with possible small battles with new enemies in very small doses.

No, Onyx wasn't "kind of" destroyed, it was utterly obliterated. Onyx no longer exists as a planet, all that's left is trillions of pissed off Sentinels and the Dyson Sphere which is the size of a fish bowl in normal space.

And nobody give me this crap that "but the Sentinels could have joined together again". So explain how an atmosphere capable of sustaining humans and a habitable surface would appear out of nowhere.

I'd like an updated version of CE's opening. You look around the cryopod before the seals pop, you hop out and run.

Very similar to dodging objects on the Autumn in CE.

ULTIMATE FAILURE.

no, they're for thrust and control in low or zero-g environments - can't actually lift a spartan though, too small and the spartan is too heavy. It's generally assumed that since mark V had them, all later models had them too.

It should be called "Dawn breaks."

Dawn breaking over a new Halo trilogy and the Dawn actually breaking.

:P

And I think we'll have to battle our way through the Dawn, fighting some of those who are trying to blow the ship up.

You mean the AI display terminal that chief already took cortana from very obviously in the trailer?

The first mission must contain the mandatory "controls tutorial" sequence so that new Halo players can orient themselves.

I'm just glad he didn't say "Breaking Dawn"... *shudders*

Also, I don't think anyone is trying to blow up the Dawn, it's just burning up on reentry.
