I like the idea. You should have made a poll.

Jarell is correct. This is about the Bungie community. Therefore, this thread would have a rightful place in the Septagon.

The only problem is that such a thread would not be able to have a specific purpose, since everything that needs to be discussed has its own specific forum for where it goes. Therefore, this forum would have no specific topic. It would basically be a Flood for people who have had an account for a few months. There is really no point to it.

It would cut down on spammers shutting down good threads, then getting blacklisted, making another account, and doing it again.

Then it would mean work creating an entire set of forums just so older members can talk with others. What's the point of having two sets of forums just so members don't have to worry about spammers, when a mod can easily be contacted to take care of trouble-makers? It would basically mean member would have to wait until they had had their accounts for a while before putting up their ideas. It would also mean spammers would just create multiple accounts at one time so that when they could go to the "Regular" forums, they would just spam the hell out of all of the forums with all of their accounts, and we are back to square one.

I think Bungie should implement a "Regulars" forum for people that belong in it. MLG has this same thing and has made for many intelligent and clever discussions on the MLG boards.

I think maybe something like 5 months on the message board and no more than 3 blacklists. I know this may belong in Off-topic (so please, don't post that) but I think this would get many views here in the Zanzibar forums.

I also think the "Regular" forum should be monitored closely and if people are undeserving, the ninjas should take away their privelage.

I am just throwing this idea out there and I know the requirements will need to be set by the Bungie mods. So, fellow members and Bungie mods alike, I would really appreciate some feedback on this idea.

I have a nervous reflex towards clicking "Unleash Ninjas" on elitists.

Good thing I took that therapy. Pity I killed the shrink.

I like that word... forum-copper.
"Arrgh! Die forum-copper!"

Now I have to add something to this thread.. Geeze, high price for fooling around...

Well... I don't think that a regular forum would be a good idea, it might stop spammers, but I don't think it will be very active, or fulfilling a specific purpose like the others. I mean, look at groups like The Flapping Shenanigan or Pandemoniumm, they where serious and respectable groups, but they died. I guess it was because there weren't the right flow in the members, the old ones weren't really exchanged and the new ones found the group a bit to "pretty" or serious, maybe.

That would be a fun forum. Would the creation of a forum for regulars diminish or reduce activity in the other forums?

I don't want to rain on your parade, but why not just make a group? You can invite which members you want, and make it as exclusive as you want. You will control it.

  • 02.10.2006 3:27 PM PDT

I'll be on my own side.

This idea was toyed around with in a discussion about a potential karma system. Keep in mind, that Achronos has said that if there is a karma system, it won't be like RvB's.

Get enough karma, and you get access to exclusive forums and such. If there's going to be some sort of exclusive forum, I would like to see it implemented like this.

I'm not sure why the Bungie.net boards have such a paranoia of elitism. Some people can explain their dislike of them, which I'm sure you can, but most people just leave it at "it's bad."Some people deserve better treatements then others, naturally. Why should a spammer be given the same privlages as a good, contributing, helpful member? They shouldn't. The member should get rewarded and the spammer should get punished. The latter already happens, thank God. However, I would really like to see some more rewards. Not for post count or for useless forum copping as seen above, but for really helpful things. For instance, MrAlexZander's Caption Contest. He put a lot of work into that, I think he should be rewarded.

Mabye this forum isn't the best idea, but there are certainly other ways of showing appreciation.

EDIT: To prospartan- it's not even remotely the same feeling. For one, it would never work. Ever. If someone invited me to a group "For the best minds on Bungie.net" I would shoot it down without a second thought. However, if Bungie implemented it I would be interested. With one it sounds incredibally vain, with the other it sounds like something that could be fun.

And what about members who don't break the rules, but aren't very helpful either? What do they get? In a case such as this, you encourage good behavior. However, such encouragement can mean that some people will be helpful just to be rewarded. In some cases, positive reinforcement works. However, in a case such as this, we want to discourage bad behavior. That way less people are mean, and they are only being good so they don't get punished.

I'd prefer people being nice to not get banned than to be nice to be rewarded. Albeit there are some forms of help that are good (themes and avatars to name two), but if we reward making contests, who else will start making contests in the hope that they get a similar reward?

And I would like to point out that spammers are not given the same priveleges that normal members are. Spammers usually get banned, and normal members get to use the forums normally.
