I don't think I need any more reasons to hate Bungie and Microsoft. They're both money-grubbing, amoral atrocities that make this world a crappier place to live. Screw gaming. GNU/Linux is honest and doesn't trick you out of your money. Nice to know Halo 2 has been reduced to little more than a gimmick to sell crappy DRM-infested Windows Vista. Way to suck, Bungie. Like I said, cold day in hell before I pay out for any more M$ garbage. Guess I better take good care of my copy of Halo PC!

Hey I have seen the Beta version of Vista running and it has virtually ZERO holes. No more blue screens and such. Be a hater, but I'll just say I told you so when it releases.

Vista? I need to google that. So it's like Window's XP? Guess I'm gettin' it.

Nice Spartan 012! I'm sorry if I ever doubted you. I alway's kept hope, but just never heard much convincing evidence.

Bungie and MS just might love us a little bit yet.

I wonder if they will be another forum or if they will just use the Maw for both Halo PC's.

Does anyone have any concrete info on what you need to run vista, i'm building my new rig around the vague specifications from the beta, but is there anything concrete yet? All i've heard is that you'll need a good cpu (pref. a 64 bit one) and a pcie graphics card because windows will no longer use onboard display, and agp doesnt have the bandwidth.

Smell that, Sarge? Smells like a fanboy.

Any-who, while I won't get Vista right from the word go, I'll probably get it a year or two after it comes out, and then buy Halo 2 for PC. Right now, with the Xbox 360 coming right around the corner (Australia), I don't really want to play my Xbox.

This is great news for the PC guys, although I would like to see a Mac port as-well (I use both..).

Also, about the "money hungry" thing. If you were a multi-billion dollar company, would you:

A) Give $1,000,000+ to charity each year.
B) Release new products every 1-6 years.
C) Try to make more money, in-case you have a bad run and could use the back-up money.
Or
D) All of the above.

Me thinks they've picked "D". Not too sure about the charity thing, a friend told me about it.

I won't judge Vista on what microsoft has done, or made in the past. If it truly is secure, then I will probably get it. I won't, however, get it as soon as it comes out. My dad works at the university computer tech help/ infrastructure (not sure exactly what to call it) and he would probably know pretty soon whether its a good operating system or not.

Call me cynical, but it's a brilliant move by MS to only make it available for Vista, they get to sell the package to those with XP, and attract gamers away from Linux OS.

Claps...

Brilliant marketing ploy guys.

And why is that good? Linux is superior and free.

I wasn't commenting on the superiority of either system, I know very little about Vista and dont have the knowledge or ability to debate which is better.

I was merely suggesting that MS are utilising their assets in a brilliand strategic marketing move; Halo- their biggest game franchise only available on their new OS, will force gamers who want to play it onto their new OS.

There may be other, technical based considerations however, as I mentioned before, I don't know enough about that to comment.

Key word: Announced.
I am hoping that I can duel boot XP and Vista though so I can play games and run apps on both.

*shudder*
No thanks...

I myself am not going to get it, but I have the feeling this may alienate quite a few people who feel they are being forced into upgrading by Microsoft.

It's like going back in time and making Halo 2 only for the 360, which would have irritated alot of fans as it could run perfectly fine on the Xbox.

That's what they said about XP. Unfortunately, all that meant is whenever the kernel crashed, the PC would automatically, and quickly, reboot, so you wouldn't see the error. Naturally, you can edit your registry to turn of the auto-reboot and view the BSD in all of it's glory, right there in Windows XP.

Of course, if you're getting BSDs in XP, you have done something horribly wrong to the PC anyway. I've never had one on my own PC, but I have several friends that do.

That's silly. Halo 2 was an Xbox system seller. Now that the 360 is released, 360 titles are going to take front and center. Besides, this way, we get the rest of our audience that doesn't play on consoles for whatever reason.

This isn't smart at all. Halo is a system seller, but people will just wait for the port now.

Yep, I am sure ALOT of PC users are gonna go out and pay hundreds of $$ for vista just so they can play halo2...What garbage. It should be for XP and Vista.

Did you miss the fact that Bungie are owned by Microsoft?

I could go on, but I'm sure you can join the dots up.....

Brilliant "garbage". You want to play halo 2 pc, you need vista. People will be upgrading anyway. Thats how it is, and Microsoft knows it. Don't try to argue marketing to microsoft, you will almost always lose. They aren't a multibillion dollar corperation for nothing.

I wonder if the weapons like the Flamethrower and the Fuel Rod Cannon will be offered in this game?

I highly doubt that, flamethrower maybe but definately not the FRG, there is a new gun in Halo 2 which is like a roket launcher but shoots plasma.

If they make Vista, It had better support 32-bit processors as well as 64-bit. There had better not be two different OS's for 32 and 64 bit either. That will really piss me off!

I'm pretty sure that there are two different operating systems. There will be one for 32 bit systems and one for 64 bit systems.
I am hoping that halo two will work with both of them.

wow, just wow.
Anyway don't worry about it only being compatible for XP because battlefield 2 was and people got it to work on there older windows os. People will find a way to get passed it.

I doubt anyone will be getting Vista just to play Halo 2. Especially seeing as:

* By the time the port comes out the game will be at least 2 years old.
* You will have to buy a whole new OS.
* Anyone who would be willing to upgrade just to play H2 PC would have an xbox by now.
* You can already create maps with Halo PC.
* You can already dual-wield (to an extent) with Halo PC.
* You can already play online for free with Halo PC.

Vista hasn't even been released and already they're making Vista-only games. IMO that's just corporate greed, seeing as the majority of people will not have Vista, and so will be left out in the cold.

Nice plan.

Yea brilliant strategic move, that is a milestone on the road down corruption. Hey how long do you think till Bungie turns out a crappy new game every 3 months? Heres hoping never.

Still Halo 2 vista will still be good at least, but I'm not paying cart loads of money for the OS.

The statement that "AGP doesn't have enough bandwidth" is simply not true. Take the X850XT as an example...there is a PCIe version and an AGP version. Vista will still utilize AGP, and I'm sure Bungie isn't going to ignore those with lesser systems.
