Oh yeah trying to get gamers to buy Vista just to get Halo 2 is a bad idea. When's the last time a gamer actually paid for their operating system? I go to LAN parties all the time (yes I own a PC and play games on it) and I don't know a single person that paid for their copy of WinBloat.

Quite right - I know heaps of gamers and not a single one of them owns a legal copy of Microsoft Windows. If its not released for Windows XP I will likely just wait until Transgaming supports it under Linux or look for a very low cost version of Vista.

"Players will also have the opportunity to create and customize their own multiplayer level"

Dear Bungie, please can us 360 owners have the opportunity to do this in whatever your next project turns out to be....;)

Bahahahaha, this has to be the funniest crap I have ever heard.

My favorite part is the whole "The game WILL be for Windows Vista, as in, not for Windows XP, so you have a while to get used to that and complain to me about what a jerk I am to Windows 3.1 users."

Yeah right. I myself use Windows XP X64 on a machine most people of you dream of, and I find this to be the biggest load of Crap I have ever seen. While I do know Bungie is owned my Microsoft, I find this to be a hillarious method to make quite a bit more money then most people are to spend. Of course though! Windows Vista is SO MUCH BETTER AND DIFFERENT THEN WINDOWS XP LOL1!!

No. You know, I know this is a whole marketing strategy so people will buy more Windows Vista copies (or Pirate it like I sure will, unless it turns out not to be crap) but honestly, think about this for a moment.

Xboxes are gone, yes and the new 360s are on the market, however, whats cheaper to a user? An Xbox + Halo 2 or MS Vista + Halo 2? Try the latter. Even the lowest cheapest package won't beat the former. So isn't that kind of like shooting yourself in the foot?

But don't worry kids, A crack will be out within 3 days to let you play on your Windows XP machine. Hell, I may even help with it, unless you guys are semi-intelligent and make it check with a root server (Even though people will get around that too, just as they did with UT2k4 on the master server).

Oh yes, I forgot to ask, why do you guys impose artificial restrictions on playing a game? I mean does your marketing team really think that this is the best thing to do, or is it just pressure from your parent company?

I'll tell you one thing though, if this game lets me destroy those idiotic kids who still think their little stick is better then my MX518, I would GLADLY pay for both of the software disks.

-- Runiteshark

-- Edit: oh yes and to any idiots who are going to correct me and tell me to read the whole thing -- don't. I'm just saying what would do it for me.

-- Edit2: Mac users can finnaly get this game. Atleast its a possiblity, since they switched to real processors (well x86 atleast) you wouldn't have to recompile all the code. Just have fun with all the enviroment settings, and the rest. So it dosen't really seem to be that big of a deal. As for you old PPC core Mac users. Keep dreaming. You chose a simple idiots machine over something that takes a bit of education and experience to use, and you will feel the negative effects from it.

Look on the bright side though, for a modest investment of a few thousand dollars you can get a nice shiny computer from your lovely Apple company, and play games.

Or you could build your own and be a real computer user.

lets hope so (the crack)

a 3+ year old game by the time it comes out "Enhanced" that already plays on two other systems one of them in HD?

Shouldn't this thread tell them something. Just take a browse through the pages. Literally a couple are happy and it drops to complete apathy after that. Are we not the customers as well as a fan base. Not very good sampling results if you look around the other forums. You can't say they expected this reaction. has a game ever released that had such an adverse reaction from fans?

Might as well just make Halo 3 for PC, and skip doing it for Halo 2. Seriously... But I hope they include that map customization feature in H3.

man i think itd be awesome if to be able to play online you had to have xbox live account, and you could play game types with your xbox friends. or just make it the only way to run is to use the 360 control so the game doesn't leave its roots and get -blam!-d like halo pc now.

I got to get Halo 2 Vista [its wwhat im calling it]! I loved the Halo PC version for the Extra Maps, Banshee in multiplayer, the Fuel Rod Cannon and Flamthrower, and the ton of options to choose from when making a gametype. I bet Hal 2 will be even better on the PC.

I wonder if it will have something like Halo: CE [Custom Edition].

Read some of the post... There will not be a Halo 2 CE!! You want to know why? Cause Gearbox is sitting on their fat a**es and won't mess with the net-code. So no, another reason your GREAT MAGNIFCIENT HALO 2 VISTA SUCKS...........

You know what Bungie, well played well played is what I say. Heck I knew Halo 2 for the PC would come out. But I never thot you make us all have to buy a totaly new "Mircrosoft Program" To do it. Thank-you Bungie thank-you. You know heck it's not that I don't appreciate you guys finally makeing the Halo 2 game, it's the fact that your makeing us buy a totaly new program to do it.

Bill Gates well played to you to.
Tyler

p.s. Frankie, I am pretty sure this is still on topic scence it seems to be what everyone else is talking about in this forum....

It doesn't really matter to me. I bought Halo 2 on Xbox and beat it many times, and I did the same thing with Halo 1. The inclusion of Halo 2 to PC users only means to me that my lame PC only high horse friends will play Halo 2 now instead of nothing but Halo 1, which means they might finally grow up (I hate being at LAN parties and only playing Halo 1). If anything, though, it means Halo 3 will just come out that much later.

Really not Interested.

Halo 2 is not "good" for competitive play.

Bungie had a Market for competitive play but decided to go for overall "fun" play.

Im gonna echo what reuniteshark had to say. If you dont know how to build your own machine find someone, you can build a pretty nice machine for under 2g's. I have amd dual 4200 sli moboard and 7800gtx 1.5 gigs of memory a 2 250 hdd. Windows vista i believe will run in 64bit so yess you will need a 64bit processor. But forget all that for a minute.

a. YOu all complain about the Q&A well i do agree it was pointless however it is the first release, It was just annoucned.
B. I though people bought macs for Artist and music production, not video gaming. I will make a 100 dollar paypal bet that this never reaches Mac's
C. Gearbox Fudged the original game up. They are not allowed to touch this thing. Somone will mod it and make a H1 version of the game so for this i dont mind paying a little monie.
D. Pc Games are way better than console games as far as First person shooters are concerned. GET OVER IT
C. 1000 Dollar paypal bet that you poor 360'ers wont get to mod new maps.

Use common sense, You wont be able to play cross platform. People with Mouse kb will easily destroy those with a controller, I hope they un nubify the game so that people with real skill can shine.

Halo 1 was cool.
Halo 2 was a kids game that required no skill.
I won't buy a computer game that has so many kids playing it.

*slaps head* age-ist fool.

I really can't even be bothered to explain WHY you are wrong, but you are.

now, on topic. Well, cool. If i get a 1337 PC with the new ATI Xenos PC graphics card when Vista comes out i'll deffinately pick up Halo 2 PC. If just for the map editor. If not, well i can always play it on Xbox.

I wonder, is this little map maker for Halo 2 PC a little prelude to something that is going to happen with Project ONP? Custom make-makage on PC (and/or Xbox 360) then distributioning on Xbox (360) LIVE for all ONP players? If so, Bungie, you rock!

Edit: some of you fools have made me do this, I just HAVE to respond sarcastically.

Dear Sir and/or Madame,
Of course it will not be a Halo 2 CE. CE stands for 'Custom Edition.' As in, being able to make you own 'custom' content for the game. Halo 2 PC (Vista) however is either shipping with a map editor/creator or will have an in-built one. So DUH!!!! <Insert, 'therefore' symbol> you do not need to capitalise 'GREAT MAGNIFCIENT HALO 2 VISTA SUCKS.' As in that implies that it is sucking at the moment. This however is impossible for a computer program to achieve. Also, it is not completed and not released so you have no first hand experience of its 'suckage.'

Please explain to me how you are able to know that every one of the employees at Gearbox has a ‘fat’ bottom. It is further apparent from your statements that you are meaning to say that Gearbox intentionally ‘mess’ (meaning in this context to disrupt or damage) the ‘net code’ of games. This could cause obvious and clear offence to employees at Gearbox. I suggest you retract your statement.

I have also come to realise that you grasp of the English language and/or your typing skills is/are not up to scratch. Please explain the meaning of the series of letters 'thot.' By the way Sir and/or Madame the phrase 'thank you' in the modern English language is not hyphenated. See? You learn something new every day

I am also confused as to how you are being ‘forced’ to buy a computer Operating System that as-of-yet is not realised and a version of a computer game that is also not yet released. Are you meaning to imply that a Microsoft employee is physically forcing you to pay money for said operating system? I would like to see some evidence and upon verification of this evidence I suggest you start a law suit against Microsoft Corp for forcibly making you buy their products.

Yours Sincerely,
The Sarcastic One

Let's just hope that vista is stable enough to run Halo on RTM.

If the release of VS.NET 2005 is any indication of MS's new release paradigm, I wouldn't count on it running very smoothly, but still something to look forward to.

Is it just a port to vista or a full rewrite?

Subject: Five quick questions

Lord, I was born an 'Amblin' Man.

This started as two quick questions, but I'd like to hear someone else thoughts. Don't get me wrong either, I think its great for Bungie that they are staying on top of new technologies esspecially within their own company (scratching backs usually pays off in the long run.) I just seems like an odd move to make at this stage of the game.

1. Who's idea was it to port Halo 2 to Vista (Bungie) ?
2. Is the current idea that Halo 2 will become the new Solitaire or Minesweeper?
3. Is this distracting Bungie from developing new products? It seems that something like this at least at the Project Management level would require some resources that might be better focused on something that would address its existing fan community.
4. Isn't it a little late to be porting to the Windows platform? By the time, Vista is released and Halo 2 is working correctly on it, I would hope that Bungie would be working on Halo 3 or Marathon Revisted.
5. As a current fan that enjoys playing your games, why should I get excited about something that I already have essentially?
