Ok, lets go with your "Theory" WartHog. If I take the original doom and put it on the newest computer, will it look better than doom on the original hardware? If I take pong and put it on a new computer with the ability to render 3D graphics, will it be 3D?
...takes out Vista stick *WHACK!* you deserve it...
anywhoo BOTH hardware and software determines performance and graphics. Without the software to run a game, it wont run. Without the hardware, you get the same result. The thing that Vista has that Xp WON'T have is DirectX 10. Halo 2 PC will be using DX 10, and its almost guarenteed to not be on DX 9. There are also certain things that every program requires from an OS; Windows, Mac, Linux, whatever os you choose *even DOS*. These are libraries of data and such. What an OS does *for those of you who cant comprehend by yourselves* is that it takes a program, interprets and converts data into a form that a processor can understand. without and os, you need to program in either assembely or binary.
