Here's a suggestion I believe nobody's offered:

Any chance of adding in a couple extra goodies to mp like they did for the first one? i.e. put the flamethrower back in, possibly add in another weapon.

This is not necessary, Halo 2 has very well balanced weapons for the most part.

Oh, but a biggy here!

Make sure not to put in auto-aim!!!

i agree no 56k support. even though some people cant afford to get broadband... halo 2's gonna be more complicated over the net, and we dont want people ruining the game for everyone just because they want to play. no offense, but i hate 56k players, not because they are bad people, but because it just lags the game for everyone.

The bungie.net community is the halo PC community that is renowned for being unbelieveably sucky.

Another BIG VOTE for NO 56K

Bungie could also offer a 25% off coupon for Halo2 when you buy Vista, that would be a real nice gesture on their part

edit: similar to how ATI offered the HalfLife 2 coupon with certain 9800s and x800s.

I always told you, soinc, that you should get broadband. I know exactly how you feel, I was suck with 56k for a looooooong time. I'm in the same position now in terms of PC graphics. I'm stuck with late '04 integrated graphics and an XP. Meaning, Vista will alreayd kill my system, let alonte Halo 2...

On a further note, nice job Moneysoft. Found a way to squeeze more money out of us again, have you? I applaud you. _^_ (The bird)

OK we seem to have hit a hot topic here. So we need to gather the facts of the matter that are unclear, well at least to me they are.

Gearbox screwed up the netcode and the common belief/excuse is that M$ required 56K support and that coding in support for dial-up created lag in the netcode, or something to that effect. When Gearbox made CE they did not put in support for 56K and the lag in CE is BETTER but NOT gone. That would suggest that the problem with lag in multi-player on-line FPS's is 56K support. So do the big FPS's out right now Half-life 2, BF2, Call of Duty, support 56K dial-up? Do they have lag problems? If we can answer those questions we can find out if the major lag in Halo is caused by 56k support or if it is terrible netcode. Then we can decide what we want, no 56K support or make sure you get the damn netcode right this time.

P.S. Soinc, your dial-up is the worst I have ever encountered. You have got to get rid of it. DSL prices are coming down to dial-up levels because they can't compete with cable so they are competing with dial-up. You should be able to get DSL for $15/month by the time Halo 2 PC comes out. I don't know how old you are but get a job or do some kind of work to save up $15/month and offer to pay for it yourself. This will do a few things. It will let your parents know you REALLY want it. It will make them feel guilty that you have to get a job to get the things you want and they will probably get the DSL for you. (Note: If you have a single Mom do NOT do this, you will break her heart)

NOOOOO!!!!! Now I have to format my drive, re-install my games and buy Vista just to play Halo 2, which i'm willing to do, but it will sure be a pain in the @$#. Plus I just got XP a few months ago, and for some reason it fragmented my drive into crap. Anyway, i'm glad Bungie finally announced that it would happen. You knew it would, you just didn't know when. The addition of PC sepcific wepons like the flamethrower would be nice. However, I hope the game comes with some sort of pixel shader that can run on non high-end machines. I could play Halo without a single problem, but several graphical features were missing, like specular lighting and shadows, both of which my computer can completely handle, but wasn't allowed to turn on in the game.personally, the better physics will be a welcome relief for everyone who played HL2 then bought Halo (am I right guys?). To me the physics seemed odd and not matching real life (objects fall at differant speeds, wepons bounce around E.T.C). I've played Halo 2 for Xbox and thought its better pyshics deserved praise. Anyway, trying to keep on topic here, I expect a good transition from Xbox to PC, and hope the game takes full advantage of the new OS's capabilities.

A Map Maker that is similar in function to Valve Hammer Editor, instead of having to build your map in max, have it buildable in a programe like this so that one program can do evrything, Building the map, Populating the map, Texturing the map, lighting the map and of course compiling the map.

A map maker like this would make many more people able to make new maps for Halo 2 PC a whole lot easier to make for people that do not readily have acces to 3ds MAX, now i do have MAX bit i would much rather see a small map maker that has alot of functionality all rolled into one little program.

O and for the anti cheat thing, release the game on something similar to steam, so that those caught cheating you can ban that user ID from the service and the hax0r would have to buy a whole new game :)

Map maker=best addition there is, and since it wont be complicated to make a map like for Halo CE, expect many user created maps.
Mapmaker is worth 50 dollars alone for me.

I say YES to 56k support, tho it's likely to be added by M$ anyway (larger market)

How about internal teamspeak?

Volunteer admins for servers (possibly us ^^)

I'll post more later...

The number of people on high speed connections far outweigh those on dial up, i can't understand why anyone still uses dial up anyway, in the UK, it's more expensive to get a dial up connection than bradband.

Anyway, the reason for lag in halo pc wasn't the 56K support, it's because gearbox sucks, i mean really REALLY sucks, their netcode is some of the worst i have ever seen, like look at CS:S, that supports every internet connection speed, from 14.4Kbps to 1Gbps and while obviously a slower connection is laggy, it has little to no effect on people on higher speed connections.

How about internal teamspeak?

I'd be very surprised if internal voice wasn't included, it's been standard in every game for years, in fact i was surprised it wasn't in Halo PC, but anyway, ingame voice tends to be of very low quality, using TeamSpeak is usually always a better option.

Volunteer admins for servers (possibly us ^^)

You all seem to have this idea that it will run like xbox live matchmaking, have any of you even tried proper online gaming? The gameservers will not be controlled by bungie or microsoft, but by the server owners which means we get server admins, no longer do we get stupid tkers, they just get banned from the server, this makes for cleaner, more fun games. This also means you can't be globally banned, unless of course Bungie instigate a VAC-style anti cheat program that performs global bans on secure servers, but again, securing a server is only voluntary, not all servers will be secured.

That also leads me to my suggestion: release Halo 2 PC on Steam, this would reduce overheads on game manufacture and would allow for Halo 2 PC to be immediately available to millions of gamers. It would provide access to the excellent Steam server browser and hosting instead of that useless gamespy one and of course, VAC, so no scumbag cheaters running rampant.

Heyyo,

I say, they should do the netcode for broandband mainly, and have some support for 56k. Cause yeah, I remember back after I moved, and went back to 56k, I wanted to game with the clan soooo bad, I tried, but even my typing had a 10 second lag after 10 people were inna server. I say they diddn't gear the netcode of Halo1PC for 56k, but only advertised it. Halo1PC's netcode was crap. They better make this one better I say. Now Halo1CE? I highly doupt they removed 56k support. All they did was tweak the netcode to work better. They diddn't do anykindof overhaul, just tweaks, basic fixes.

Definately a better afk kick system and tk kick system. I say the server should have a memory cool down time, like tk's stay accounted for, for like, 5 hours.

The only other thing I would really like to see is coop! for the love of jebus. Halo1PC would've been 2x better if it had it built in.

Other than that? it seems the map editor's in, same with custom maps, which means messed up mods again, lol, sweet. :)

Heyyo,

Yeah, thanks man. :)

and I did say why I left, cause I was getting annoyed of halo's situation, and I had my life to look forward too. Moved, got my dream car.. a 1976 chevy stingray, got a sweet job as a computer tech at the futureshop here. It rules man. I do game, but not nearly as much as before.

Anywho, yeah, I'm curious as to how Halo2PC will turn out cause I have played Halo1PC a bit recently cause I was suffering halo-withdrawl, and i'm gonna see if Halo2PC turns out any good.. maybe reunite Band Of Slackers? most likely no, but at least I can game with some of the members again I bet. :P

I think it's going to be awesome that we can produce our own maps...

two words, kind of, actually one word then two letters that are abbrviations of two words, so actually, 3 words... halo custom edition (HCE)

that was made for custom maps, and im sure it will be quite similar to the mapmaking on h2pc

it would be better if they released it for xp, i have never even heard of vista, is it even coming out in the uk, i would gladly buy h2pc, if i had a computer that could support it, so i suggest release for xp and mac, just to make everyone happy, yay

im probably going to end up getting vista anyway, but if i dont ill feel left out like 1000's of others who might not get vista, so they cant get h2pc.

anyone who dissagrees, accept bungie because its there choice in the end... can kiss my A55

i agree with elmicker, LETS SEE SOME OLD SKOOL SEVERS LIKE HALO PC!!! None of this matchmaking crap, Don't put levels in either those just bring up peoples egos and willingness to hack which im sure bungie doesnt want. Just kinda do it like halo pc, but make it pc 2. OH lets see some online co-op? of course we need tteh fuel rod again lmao cmon bungie just like for old times sake. Some new maps too would be nice. Well thats all i gotta say.

I would actually like to see online co-op with this one, the excuse "it would be too laggy" may have applied to the xbox with its piddling 64mb of ram, but it's very very possible on the PC, the majority of which have 512mb of ram, and anything under a year old will mot likely have 1gb, which is more than enough to do online co-op, which tied in with ever-increasing bandwidth around the world, just pisses on that excuse. Look at serious sam, that manages it perfectly well.

Gearbox had good netcode, broadband only. Microsoft forced them to add 56k support and a very small window of time to do it. or so i've heard.

Part of it was bad netcode, and part of it was bad netcode. If 56k causes alot of lag, then I have to say don't put support, or put limited support. You won't get voip, or anything like that on 56k. Nothing against 56kers as people, but you can't expect people who have broadband to have to suffer for it.

Notice how I didn't say no 56k support outright, just not if it causes lag issues for broadband users.

I don't think haveing a hammer like editor would be the best way to do it. I for one think how they have it now is much better than hammer. There is more flexability for complex geometry and texturing the way they have it now. With upgrades because of the engine to sapien and guerilla, of course, and added support for more modeling programs, I think it would be a much better set of tools.

lol can't afford cable or dsl. You kidding me serously you can get like 256kbs connection which is like 4 times better then 56k for like what $5 more?, hell even 128kbs is pretty decent for online gaming and it's the same price. The only excuse for not having anything better then dial up is it is not in your area and even that is going to change.
I'm up for Broadband support because 95% of the people who are going to play Halo 2 on the pc have a good connection.
